My Jeep Liberty goes bye-bye in about 7 weeks.

I will miss her deeply.

Nothing but oil and air filter changes in 45,000 miles, and not a single problem of any kind whatsoever.

She went anywhere, while being comfortable on road.

Very solid structure - built to take the rough stuff, yet a refined feeling.

Great ergonomics for a true 4x4 (with a low range transfer case).

Heater warmed up in no time, even in sub-zero weather in Michigan.

Took her on a 135 mile trip in the worst winter storm we've had in Michigan in about 8 years, when there were barely any cars on the road (last year), and I couldn't have felt more secure.

I will cry when I have to turn her in! Best overall vehicle I have ever owned.

Only downside - 16mpg.

RotoRocket-I was actually just checking out the new Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT-8 online a few days back. I'm contemplating a move back to Chicago when my contract is up next year, and thought about something a little more winter weather friendly. Never owned a Jeep before. What qualities does Jeep have that other SUV may lack or exceed? Don't mean to hijack btw.

Tigger, it's the "in between" of the 4x4 world.

It's not a "cute-ute," like the Honda CRV, Ford Escape/Mazda Tribute, Hyundai Santa Fe, Toyota RAV-4 - because the Liberty has a true low range and the undercarriage to go along with it.

It has an independent front suspension, which makes on road ride comfort much better than Jeeps of yesterday. I live in Michigan, and the roads are horrid, but the Liberty drove great here. The fact that it is the most solid chassis ever produced by Jeep helps, because there are no rattles or squeeks at all.

On the other hand, it's smaller than the Grand Cherokees, Ford Explorers, Chevy Trailblazers, Toyota Highlanders and Honda Pilots of the 4x4 world.

It isn't the smoothest ride, but it's far from the worst (it is more civilized than my buddy's Explorer). It isn't the largest interior, but it's not the smallest. It isn't the fastest, but it's not the slowest (210 hp, 225 lbs ft torque).

Good material quality inside, good fit and finish, great reliability, and a very taut body structure completed the package.

Overall, it was just right.

The only two drawbacks were wind noise on the highway and fuel mileage (255 miles per tank in mixed driving - about 290 all highway).

It is a fantastic vehicle.

I love my RX-8, but I am a really picky person, and to tell you the truth, on some days I wish I had just gotten another Liberty. I am so fickle that I could have never believed that I'd have bought any car twice, and the Liberty is the 1st vehicle I've ever had that changed that perception.

If you get a chance to test drive the Liberty, take it out for a good 20 minute test drive (or longer).

I test drove about 8 different small and medium sized SUVs before I leased mine.

It's a great vehicle. I may own another one soon.

Oh, the Jeep Grand Cherokee is a great vehicle, too, based on the test drive I had.

But I haven't any long term experience with it.

The last gen had reliability problems, though.

I think they make a Liberty in diesel form now. Wonder if he gets better mileage.
