This might have been discussed before, but I can't seem to find it using the search feature. I was looking through the list of standard equipment of the window sticker and it says "Remote keyless illuminated entry". Isn't that the light that's suppose to be under the side mirrors like the Japanese models? If it is, mine is missing! It's not the interior lights that turns on when you hit the open button on the remote. Any clue on what this is?

i dont think its the lights under the mirrors, those are port options not standard. is probably just an internal light turning on or something

Usually "remote keyless illuminated entry" is when the dome light turns on when you hit "unlock" on the key fob.

Isn't the light under the mirrors an optional accessory? I can't seem to get to Mazdausa to confirm that at the moment. The remote keyless illuminated entry should just turn the dome light on inside when you unlock it with the remote. That's how it works on all the cars I've driven with that type of feature.

i have never read anything or heard anything stating the under mirror lights were an accessory. all info i have seen since the intro of the car at NAIAS had those lights as standard. if anyone has any other info please post it. i am currently trying to find out if the wiring is already in place so that they can be installed later.

Someone suggested that the undermirror lights are included in the GT package. Anyone with a GT care to confirm or refute that?

If not, then perhaps they are included in the "Night Lights" accessory - F151-V7-050.

Maybe someone needs to pop out one of the blanking plugs and see if there's any wiring in there.

it was confirmed in my thread about this that the gt package does not have them.

they are not that is just additional interior footwell lights.

working with someone to determine that.

ok so i got confirmation on the wiring harness. there are apparently at least 2 different harnesses. one(if i understand this correctly i will ask for clarification) that has the wiring for those lights and the heated mirrors and one that doesn't . so on the gt models which have the heated mirrors it might be possible to just pop in the under mirror lights and connect them but for the other packages it will require a wiring job:(

arrrgghh!!further info! the mirror lights are also ECU driven. unlock the doors/use the keylees entry and they turn on. so if you don't have the wiring already the ecu might not have the programing!!

Those are a port installed accessory. When I saw them on a Volkswagen Toureg (sp?) I had to have them. So I ordered them along with the appearence pkg., minidisc player, and front mud gaurds. Now I have a question...is it possible to get the shifter and brake handle in the same color as your leather inserts? If so, how would I go about ordering that? Thanx....

As I was looking through the catalog to pick out my options, and I came across the "passenger lights" as the catalog listed them, my salesperson said that they are a port installed accessory like the MD player. At least that's what I was told. But then again...it's a salesperson.

So is the 8 in your possession and it has this "passenger lights" installed?

ahh ok 1.3 liter those lights that you have ordered are the foot well lights and are not a port installed option but a dealer installed accessory. don't believe me? check the mazdausa sight and build an rx8. they are not listed with the choices of options. anything not listed there is a dealer installed accessory. the side mirror lights are not listed there either in any package.

You're assuming that the mirror lights are not part of the "night lights" accessory, just as we all assumed that they were standard equipment.

Now that the latter assumption has been proven false, perhaps we should revisit the former.

Has anyone actually ordered the night lights, or seen an 8 with them installed? Until someone does, we're still working purely on conjecture.

good point eccles. i am assuming they are not because the representative pics in the accessories brochures do not show them. i have however emailed mazda for clarification.

To answer your question, Good Duck, I ordered my titanium 8 a few weeks ago. Zoom 44, I thought that "footwell lights" are inside the vehicle in the footwell, hence the name. These mirror lights may be a dealer installed accessory, I dunno it's just that the salesman told me they were port installed. I don't care if they are dealer, port, or factory installed, I WANT THEM because they add more class to an already classy car. I do remember seeing them on some RX-8 photos taken by someone in the Europe forum, when I saw 'em, I knew I wanted 'em.

sorry for the confusion. the brochure calls them "night lights" or something, i was calling them footwell lights to identify their location. and i agree with you I want them too!!! just trying to figure out how to get them! :D
