Subwoofers in rx8?

Has anyone put a sub or subs in the trunk? I want to get that done this weekend and I just wanted to know if anyone has already.

free air woofers are much harder to make sound good than a woofer in a good sealed box... Especially with the kind of power-levels a sub in a daily driver would see.

Free-air subs almost never sound good.

yeah i know, but i was just thinking

they came off of a thought of dual mounted boxes one for each woofer which are attached to the "ceiling" of the rear deck, or just the rear deck, dont know what its called lol

so when you open the trunk, youll see two boxes made out of whatever material haning from opposite ends of the deck.

Mounting enclosures under the rear parcel shelf was one option that I was thinking about, but noone has gotten me the measurements I've asked for, so I don't know how feasible it will be.

You're thinking of the JL Stealthboxes. Actually, free-air subs can be made to sound quite good. They were all the rage back in the mid-late 90's when everybody was using Aperiodic Membranes. It's not as bad an option as some might tell you. I'm sure that you could make a huge upgrade in sound with a free-air sub and aperiodic membrane. After wiring up a sub, I'd probably use a big fat cap inline with the 9"s and the 6"x9"s to block everything below about 80Hz. Just a simple 6 db/octave passive crossover would serve the purpose.

The Apreodic Membrames made famous by Richard Clark (if I remember correctly) where quite good indeed. But the installation of them still isn't simple. You still have to make a mini-enclosure behind the sub to hold the membrane. It is a quasi-free air type set-up.

It was also mostly popular with large 15 inch woofers which are hardly convenient either. There might have been some single 10" set-ups out there that used them but I don't remember them.

IMO nothing beats a long-throw 10 or 12 inch woofer in about a .8 cubic inch enclosure with 300 Watts behind it. Now that is plenty of tight bass for me.

Thanks for the advice. I can't take it anymore without bass. I'm going tomorrow to get 2 12 inch subs

I had 2 12inch JL subs put in my rx8 with a audiobahn amp on Saturday. I have been trying to post pics since saturday but I can never get on the forum on the weekends for some reason.
