View Full Version : Jan meet Tampa/Orlando/Daytona
evilmiata 12-04-2005, 09:15 PM Great meet for December! Lets plan for next month! RX8honey and I briefly discussed an autocross event for an upcoming meet.
http://gulfcoastautocrossers.com/ is down in Ft. Myers, but is a GREAT track to run on. 100% concrete and long runs. They're may be some third gear shifts on this one. Saturdays are test and tune with an optional school (very good) in the morning. The number of runs depends on how many people show up. I've had 25 runs before lunch once, but probably average about 10/day. Sunday is for points with longer runs. Usually 3-4 runs with top drivers clocking ~70 seconds. If we visit these guys, I recommend the Saturday event, since its much more informal. However, it is quite a drive from Orlando and Tampa.
Sunriders in South St. Pete will have their first NASA event some time in January. Seems like their events are listed a week before the event and are limited to 60 drivers. This might make planning difficult.
Someone in Orlando list a local upcoming event. I have a feeling that if its on the West side of ORL, it will be our best bet for a good turnout.
Rx8honey 12-04-2005, 09:33 PM I'm game for a autocross event. Ft. Myers is just out there.. hopefully we could find something closer.
NVMyRX8 12-04-2005, 10:47 PM There is an autocross on december 11, put on by www.martinsportscarclub.com .
I'm going!!!! I know you already had a december meet, but I thought I would speek up just in case.
If anyone needs more info, PM me.

Dec 10th is a drift day, kinda on the expensive side, and only a few days away, but still fun.
I was hoping to have the january meet back in orlando, the first one (sep) was in orlando, and then there was the Tampa/Brandon meet, then this month was Lakeland so It would be nice to have a short trip out, but Im game anywhere around here, as long as its less than say 1 to 1-1/2 hr drive.
Tremor 12-05-2005, 01:58 PM Yeah unless its an all day event I dont believe most people are up to drive 2 hrs + for a 3 hr meet and greet. Keep it within 2 hrs drive time or less for the furthest away people.
Tremor
evilmiata 12-05-2005, 10:08 PM I agree that Ft Myers is too far. While it is an all day event, I had a hard time making it every month even when I lived in Sarasota!
I looked at the martin website, but didn't see anything posted yet for January. Is it a good event? I'm the southern-most person in the group (at least in Hillsborough County), but its still 104 freakin' miles from me!
Nevertheless, it would be interesting to see who walks away with bragging rights.
Mantis 12-07-2005, 07:17 AM I would like to suggest we meet in Orlando for the Jan meet because they have been driving a lot for the last two meets.
Rx8honey 12-07-2005, 07:55 AM Ok guys, if there ins't an autocross event do we want to do a BBQ or something? I think the next meet should be during the day. Let me know what you guys think...
guy321 12-07-2005, 07:59 AM Kind of a long drive for us in Tampa/Clearwater too :) We just had a meet in Orlando in Sept ;)

Mantis 12-08-2005, 08:33 AM Okay stinky butt.....pool shark...
let's talk about a date instead of the where for a while. What do you guys think about Jan 7th or 8th. I like the weekend thing because I can wash the car :bootyshak before the meet. I would like the meet to be earlier than the sun setting so we can see the cars  .....
guy321 12-08-2005, 08:41 AM Jan 7th or 8th is goof dor me. I have both days off. Hopefully we can get a nice sunny day.
Mantis 12-08-2005, 09:32 AM The sunsets at 5:30 now a days. I think we need to plan the meet for the day or find a location that is well lit.
Rx8honey 12-08-2005, 10:21 AM The 7th or 8th works for me too. definately a day meet, so we can actually see our cars. Hopefully my wheels will be on by then.
rsx_girl 12-08-2005, 02:57 PM There's a park down in the UCF area where we've had a couple Orlando Forums meets and they were pretty successful. There's a couple big pavillions there that you can reserve and they have grills too. I can get all the info if you're interested.
Digital_Damage 12-08-2005, 04:06 PM If we do Orlando I will have to pass (I know I'm alittle bitch). I'm willing to go as far as disney.
Tigster 12-08-2005, 04:09 PM If it is in Orlando I may be able to go, one of my associates at work is gone that weekend. But I could try.
Mantis 12-09-2005, 06:52 AM You are a whiney dig_dam.... :bootyshak

We just had a meet in Lakeland. We're trying to make it to a different spot each month.
Mantis 12-12-2005, 01:59 PM Okay guys, I know, Christmas sucks away the car parts fund and has everyone down and crabby. :banghead:
I kinda feel like it is about time that the Tampa side back up the Orlando group since they have been so involved in promoting the meets in our area. :D: Lets meet in Orlando or Kissimmee or anywhere that needs a bit of support. Guy and digital stinky pants, we will have a blast if you come with us.....
It seems like these meets work best if one person commits to getting reservations at a place that is well lit and has food :beer05: since we are always hungry and a nice big lot.
I am sure there are tons of RX-8 owners over there that would show if it were in the right place......
Who would show up for an Orlando meet? Am I off base here? Does anyone want to meet in Orlando/ Kissimmeeeee? I'm not going to Orlando unless Swoope commits to bringing his car...... :cwm27: I don't event think you own an 8 :Freak_ani
evilmiata 12-14-2005, 08:54 AM I just signed up for the NASA event in Palmetto (30 miles south of Brandon). Its a daytime driving event, but its pretty far for Orlando. However, I've been to this track for a drifting event and it will be WAY FUN. There are still enough spots for everyone to attend.

Mantis 12-14-2005, 09:30 AM what about the no novice comment loren put in there on the esmtb site.
tenoch does autocross, he may want to get involved on this one. maybe you could post it as a separate thread with the details. there are a lot of other florida people that may want to go to this. it looks really fun!!
Tenoch 12-14-2005, 09:56 AM Yup...that's a good event NASA-x is holding at Primus track. But it is "Mirror Khana" and I am too much of a wussy to swap paint with other cars hahaha! Think I am watching this from the sidelines.

No. :scratchhe
Mantis 12-19-2005, 06:59 AM Well Swoope,
just post the location and date and they will come. If the meet is after 5:30 the lighting will need to be good enough to see the cars. Is there food nearby?
swoope 12-19-2005, 09:05 AM yes,
nice little sports bar, lighting is very good i will snap some shots while i am there. also some nice wide lightly traveled roads. i am going for lunch will have info by 2pm.
beers
Tigster 12-19-2005, 09:33 AM I will definatley be there, how can any of us turn down beer, 8's, and did I mention beer?
guy321 12-19-2005, 09:55 AM what s happening?
swoope 12-19-2005, 11:57 AM ok i just got back, they have no problems with it. yes food is there about a 3 min walk from parking lot. you can take beverages adult or other into the parking lot.
the rest / bar does close at 9pm. so i think sat or sun would be the best option, though it will be more crowded depending on the activitys going on at the sports facitility.

Rx8honey 12-19-2005, 12:27 PM BUMP for January 7th. Any takers?
Mantis 12-19-2005, 02:54 PM I think everyone agreed that the 7th or 8th worked. So, let's lock the 7th down for this location.
Swoope, can you make reservations for dinner around 7-8ish? That way we can meet and avoid conflicting with their dinner hour.
Also, will you find out if we can reserve part of the lot (back or front) for the cars to all park together since you said it would be busy?
Our head count seems to be a strong 16 and may grow as the date nears. :naughty:
evilmiata 12-19-2005, 05:00 PM In. Mantis, we need to make some cards!!! I was talking to a dude today and he was like "rx8club dot what?" Maybe I can get creative with photoshop...
swoope 12-19-2005, 09:13 PM dont mean to bitch. but the 8th would be better. it is a sat???? fri traffic, into disney from tampa is not good. they have a private area that i think i can reserve when we get a date down.
i will have to check there event schedule. the parking lot should not be an issue lots of parking.
mantis i will pm you about this by wed.
beers

Mantis 12-20-2005, 09:06 AM sounds great! pick a time for the Saturday meet.
EvilMiata and I will work on creating some business cards to hand out when you see an 8. You know we are working on the Florida RX-8 Club site, so we can have a little more interaction with our locals. The domain is flrx8club.net and is currently under construction. We will make some cards with the club name and domain, as well as a temporary link to the SE forum on this site until things get rolling.
BTW guys. Mazda in Clearwater has contacted Guy321 and myself to host the March meet at their location. They will provide food and plenty of items for raffle to coax the group to their location. It is being hosted by their parts guy and he is working on getting competative pricing on the Mazdaspeed parts that are coming out as well as what we already can buy. I think he would match any price out there on stuff and they would provide free shipping to their shop, which isn't bad if you are looking for a kit, or MS wheels that are heavy. That dealer has Castrol, Bridgestone and their local paint shop (painted my gas lid) coming to the event which will also be pretty cool. I am always down for free stuff and food. Does this interest you guys? He is sending out flyers to their RX-8s but wanted to invite us personally since we are the enthusiasts.....which really translates to....we are the buyers of mods.....the date is March 4th.
I was thinking we could do this event like the rotary meet we went to in Orlando in October. We could find a large hotel room for the Orlando folk and those who want to drive over, but not rush back. We could all go down to Ybor city and enjoy the evening and drive back the next morning to avoid the traffic. When we did this last time, we each spent about $20 for the hotel room and went to pleasure island. Can you guys give me some feedback? Thanks!!
swoope 12-20-2005, 09:24 AM you pick the time, i am going to take the night off of work... i think early afternoon makes the most sense, daylight and warmth.
i will see what i can do about reservations. they really dont take them, but they have an extra room we might be able to get.
i wll check the date with them wed when i get back in town.
