Does anyone else find the rear view mirror (especially with homelink) totally obstructs your view when you want to make a right turn? The thing is huge and right at eye level for me. I have to crouch down and/or shift my head to the side in order to see into the turn.

I originally mounted my Passport 8500 above the mirror, but like you I found that the mirror obscured my view of traffic on my right at stop signs. I can't imagine how much worse it would be with the larger Homelink mirror.

I wound up relocating my detector to the lower edge of the windshield, which allowed me to lift the mirror higher and alleviate the problem somewhat.

Humm...I don't have that problem...maybe your seat position is too high and you could try getting comfortable a bit lower in the seat? I don't know...I positioned myself to look as close as comfortablly possible out of the center of all windows. My only problem is that the passenger seat does a good job of obstructing the blind spot off to the right of the car, I minimized it with side view mirror adjustments, but that blind spot is still pretty bad.

How tall are you?

I noticed the same issue, but I'll get used to it. I'm a short guy 5'6".

I'm 5' 6.5". I have the GT package, and the seat is in its lowest height position. I also have the seat back fairly upright which aggravates the problem.

In my Miata what I did was to move the mirror higher. It is on a dual pivot so rather then point it down, I moved it up against the headliner then adjusted it so I could see.

I can't wait to see if the RX-8 has this "dual pivot". I have the same problem. I am 6'1" and have the cloth (non-powered) seats lowered all the way down. The mirror does a great job of blocking the view off to the front-right.

I think I might just run down to the parking garage and check out the mirror.....

The rear view mirror is the perfect size and shape to encompass the entire view through the back glass. If you adjust the seat properly, you have no trouble making rights or lefts.

Yes, you're right, the view out the back is great. However, I cannot see out toward the front right fender without ducking my head. Again, my seat is all the way down.

It does have the dual pivot (I've got the home link mirror). The mirror obstructing right hand turns was one of the first things I noticed, and quickly figured out I could move the mirror 'up'. It's just about touching the roof now. The view out the back is the same up or down, and with it up, it doesn't get in the way of right hand turn view for me anyway.

Just checked it out myself. Confirmed the dual-mount. What a difference! I can see again!!! Can you tell this was not one of my top priorities?

The mirror blocking my right turn view was really bugging me - I'm 6'2" and the seat is waaaay down, so finding out I can raise the mirror - thanks guys.
Makes me wonder though why the put the Homelink stuff on the bottom of the mirror frame - why not the top where it wouldn't block the view??

i have to duck to see past it =) it's right at eye lvl for me too, i guess i should check out that dual pivot thing too.
