Hi, I am back and found religion again. Lost out on one in Owen Sound. I'm only interested in silver, black, or tit. and prefer
Moonroof Option & No Nav--but beggars can't be choosers.

I'm cottaging here in Southampton, but can get anywhere
in the province fairly quickly. Thanks.

Hi Gord,

My dealer here, in Quebec City, was allocated an extra Rx-8: I saw it yesterday: Titanium, auto, Moonroof no nav... exactly what you're looking for :p

I know it's in Quebec, but it might be your only chance to get the car of your dream.... and at the same time, come visit Quebec City for a few days, lovely city;)

Anyway, you can contact the GM, M. Richard McDonald at 418-687-0753.... and don't forget that I referred you (François, red Rx-8, 6mt) .... maybe I'll get a commission :D

Good luck

Auto GT should be easy enough to get. Mazda Cornwall has one in the showroom, although probably sold. Might want to try though, I'm not sure of the colour.

Hawkesbury had one till yesterday. I think Argus in Hull has one.

Yup, Argus Mazda in Gatineau (Hull;) ) has a silver GT automatic with moonroof no nav. It looks really good. (819) 776-6700, ask for Lucien tell him Louis sent ya:D BTW I wouldn't dally.

Gord, did you check out North Bay Mazda? I had posted that suggestion in an X-post you had in GTU update I believe. I understand North Bay will be getting 2 autos.

Thanks very much Mac, it's a done deal. Now I'll time pick-up with coming whitewater 7 day canoe trip down the Dumoine River and drive back from there. If I had been able to order originally, it'd have been 6MT,
but I'm an old fart anyways, and my family is pleased. Cheers.

PS Lucien is happy!

When are you picking it up? If I'm in town wouldn't mind a quick spin ;) .

Mine is supposed to arrived at the end of August but to be honest I just can't see that happening. Lucien thinks it's possible but the car is still being built. :(

Dumoine whitewater... I did that about 8 years ago (those were the days when I could actually take a vacation :( ). I used my brother's cedar strip canoe. He built it himself but doesn't use it  I feel so sorry for it that I take it out a couple of times to the cottage each summer :p I'm trying to convince my building manager to let me put it above my car in the garage, that way I could take it out on the canal, I live just a couple of blocks away.

i'm just curious mac, when did you place your pre-order?

It's not a pre order. It's from dealer allocation. I approached several local dealers back in February but I was not interested to drop $1000 deposit site unseen. These guys unlike the rest weren't asking for any deposit to "reserve" the right of 1st refusal, but I wasn't going to hold my breath that they would offer me 1st crack at their inventory. I've been waiting to see a blue and titanium to make my colour choice. They are getting a blue with nav, a titanium with moon roof (not too fussy by the way it looks with it opened). The rest of their allocations are GS or automatics. So if I want an 8 this summer/fall, it has to be the titanium with roof. Yesterday I gave them $500 fully refundable (in case I don't like the colour) for the titanium (don't want the nav so the blue is out). They know very little about the 8 (which is par for the course around here :( ) but so far these guys have been totally up front (unlike the rest of the local dealers). But then again nobody has yet to take delivery. Gord will be the first, so we'll see if they'll change when it comes time to finalize the price.

ah i see, thanks for clearing that up! Man, this pre-order is seriously a joke! One minute they tell me it's coming June, then they say they don't know! My dealer is honest but lacks knowledge of the RX-8 and good communications with its customers! I bet the demo arrived at the dealership by now but i still haven't received a call! I'm not gonna pester them but i might call next week since their website hints that the RX-8 has arrived! OR it could be another "oh, the car arrived in June joke, but it ain't YOUR car!"

I seriously doubt that there actually was a Canadian pre-order. I think that they simply matched pre-orders with what was in the allocations. I haven't heard of anyone in Ottawa getting to do a test drive unless they were signing a purchase that day. One dealer says that they have 2 demos but in reality they say that just to get you to go there (45 min drive 1 way).

Mac, if I survive I'll arrive at dealer on Monday 18th AM with very sore shoulders. I'll try to get a ride down Hwy 17 and stay with friends on 17th. Can you give me best routing? ie: should I be crossing into Quebec upriver and then down into Hull? How do you find Argus Mazda?

Cheers,
Gord Boyd

Hey that's my B-day! :p and I'll be in town that week ;) ;).

Actually, the simplest way to get there is if you simply cross the Macdonald Cartier bridge (King Edward) in downtown Ottawa. From the 17 (Queensway) take the King Edward Exit, go all the way until you cross the bridge. This becomes highway 5 once in Quebec. Take the St-Joseph Blvd North, it's the exit after the casino exit. Turn right (north) onto St Joseph (don't think you can turn left). After the 3rd set of lights (Jean Proulx), you will see a Nissan Dealership with Mazda next to it on the left hand side.

My only recommendation is try to get there before 2:30 PM. Traffic is pretty crap during rush hour or after 6:30 PM.

Enjoy the canoe trip, it should be fun.
