Warning: this thread is going to be long....

A bunch of So Cal RX-8 owners got together on Sunday in San Diego for a drive up through our local mountains. It was a great time!! We had 5 RX-8s, a 1st gen RX-7, a Miata and a Celica that cruised along for the ride.

In attendance were myself, Puppy1, elliotshev, 8_wannabe and norats (as far as the RX-8s were concerned)

Pics are below:

The happy owners....

I'm bad with names so I'll have to fill a few in later, but left to right: me (Jon), elliotshev, 8_wannabe, Puppy1, our Miata friend, norats. I'll leave it to them to post their real names if they like...

It must be official now. No other U.S. region has claimed they had an RX-8 rally before this one.

Woopie!

I have some video also, but I need to find hosting for it before I can post it. I'll try to get that done by the end of the day. If any of the attendees are interested, I have about 20 more pics, they were just similar to the one's I posted, but still worth of keeping for sentimental value. I also have them in much higher resolution. Thanks again to all of those that came and made the trip so much fun!

it's obvious now that the appearance package makes a huge difference! looks real nice...

so what did the owner of the black X-8 have to do to get pulled over?

Yeah, I'm really happy with the appearance package. I started having second thoughts after I ordered it and actually called my dealer at one point to see if it could be removed, but it was too late. Boy am I glad it was. It definitely adds to the car!

Nobody actually got pulled over (thank goodness). That was norats in the black car. We were just pulling out of a parking lot and the cop cut in the middle of our pack. Slowed us waaayyyyy down for about 4 or 5 miles until we all pulled off at a gas station and the cop went by. The we were back up to speed and cuttin through the twisties! :D

We started setting this cruise up before I found out about the Saturday cruise and on top of that I was getting an aftermarket alarm installed that day. We'll definitely hook up with the rest of you guys next time though. Great pics. I like that ImageStation site. I signed up. Pretty sweet. Free pic and video hosting!

Damn it! I'm always out of town or busy when the big groups are getting together! Well, I'll be at the SoCal RX-8 BBQ in OC for sure. Sucks I'm going to miss this one though. I had so much fun on Sunday. I can't wait to do it again, and it'll only be better with more cars...

Well, if I'm very lucky maybe I'll be one of the first yellows to join in on one of the SD runs -- I'm getting pretty anxious waiting for mine! And all these great pictures just turn waiting into torture!! ;)

Well thank ya, thank ya very much.... :p

You won't be disappointed in the slightest. I've had a lot of great comments about the color and the interior (i.e. "Yeah, you got the best color" or "The seats give it that extra touch of class"). Not to say the other's are beautiful, but I'm obviously biased as well...

jdl, I already got you added to my list of SD owners buddy, so you'll be sure to hear about the next trip...

Still waiting for the rest of the Sunday group to post their pics (AHEM!!!!) ;)

I know, I know.. I went to another dealer bursting at the seams with 8's and test drove one close to my configuration, a Gray with a tan interior. He begged me to buy it, but it had the Nav and lacking some of the exterior bits yours has. I decided to wait for my pre-order....

Where are the front license plates? Doesn't California require them? We're supposed to have them in TX, but I took plate holder off the front because it looked so bad, and I still have a dealer's plate on the back. I don't think I'll put it back when my plates come in.

We got up pretty quick through the twisties at some points. There wasn't a lot of traffic, but we got stuck behind the CHP, a ranger and some other slow traffic and due to the fact that we were caravaning, we weren't passing the slower cars (because it would've broken the group up). I'm still working on getting my vids up (I'm lagging, I know, but I can't find an anonymous FTP server and my proxy server won't let me upload to non-anonymous sites), but I have a vid of taking a (smallish) corner in the twisties at just over 80. Just listen for my passenger screaming and you'll know where it was. :D
