I noticed there are a few places around here that are selling them now.. when do you all get your trees? Buy a fake tree. I never understood why people insist upon buying a tree that was grown and cut down for the express purpose of putting it in their house for a month and then throwing it out in January. If you have to have a live tree, at least buy one with a bulb and then plant it after the holidays (or find someone who will). dazygirl415 11-27-2005, 09:43 PM ^^ ditto about the fake tree. Mine was up on Saturday and it won't die. nzarnow 11-27-2005, 09:48 PM If you think that is bad, try going to fashion island in newport beach, ca. They buy/kill a tree at least 40-75 feet high to have it up for about a month. Why the f&#^ would you want to kill something that has been alive and growing for so long?!? I can't understand the point in having a christmas tree. If the whole holiday is about celebrating someone's birth, why celebrate it by killing something else? :dunno: :dunno: :dunno: :dunno: RenesisRacer 11-27-2005, 10:43 PM Buy a fake tree. ECHO1 11-27-2005, 10:57 PM ^or the little furry creatures living inside! like christmas vacation? furry ones i can deal with, spiders :scared: just put mine up today along with some lights outside. smells gooooood ;) tiggerlee 11-27-2005, 10:59 PM I've never had a fake tree. Only the real deal for me! Razpewton 11-28-2005, 12:01 AM This thread reminds me of the PITA member who was bitching about killing animals on a thread last year. Then, he admitted that he had leather seats in his RX8 and his credibilty went to hell real quick. Most Christmas trees are grown for the soul purpose of providing the traditional centerpiece for a family's holiday celebration. If it weren't for Christmas, most of the trees wouldn't be grown. Even the cut-your-own sites. Have you ever considered the inhumane way we kill cock roaches? Poison the poor bastards. They suffer for hours before dying. Or if you're really looking out for the rights of PLANTS, let's not forget our grass. We pamper it, nurture it, feed it, water it, then after it's grown, we cut it in half and repeat the cycle. And we do it in a most vicious manner, employing gas powered mechanisms to rip their poor bodies in two. At least we don't feast on clubbed baby seals for our Christmas dinners... :cwm27: But then....with enough bar-b-que sauce, who knows? blue flash 11-28-2005, 07:46 AM we always buy our REAL tree the first weekend in dec.the after the holidays we take it to the beach where they use them to protect the sand dunes from washing out.FAKE TREES ARE LIKE FAKE TITS ,IT'S JUST NOT THE SAME. Asmoran 11-28-2005, 08:23 AM IT'S JUST NOT THE SAME. Well, that's certainly true. Fake trees don't have that awful smell. They don't drop needles. Don't have critters. No sap. You don't have to water them. One tree will last you many years. If there's a sparse spot on the tree, you can re-bend the branches to cover it. I could go on and on. I hate buying real trees. Home Depot has a pretty nice 7 footer for $40. We were shopping for a tree this weekend, and this $40 tree was a lot nicer than the $150 ones at Target, ect. So much for the "they're too expensive" argument. Razpewton 11-28-2005, 08:52 AM Isn't America an awesome country? People have the opportunity to make their own decisions and speak their own minds. For those of you who prefer the smell of fresh pine and don't mind the bother of putting up a real tree, by all means.....indulge. AND...for those of you who feel that putting up a real tree amounts to horticultural MURDER, then follow your conscience....save a tree......put up a fake. Everyone has the opportunity to excercise their GAWD given rights, guaranteed you by the Constitution of the United States. Just don't talk about it in PMs. :cwm27: blue flash 11-28-2005, 09:22 AM As a child we grew up with a fake tree and i now buy the real thing.my wife and i were going to buy a fake tree this year but my youngest daughter wanted a real one so we decided as long as she wants a real tree she will have 1.for those that love the smell of a real tree but don't like the mess do what my sister does .she will go to the christmas lot and they give her some of the cutting and she puts them around her FAKE TREE.and please give me a break about killing a tree .just look around your office and see how many dead trees are in your folders.have you sent a fax this morning ,SHAME ON YOU!! YOU JUST KIILED A TREE. Asmoran 11-28-2005, 09:30 AM lol - the whole "killing a tree" thing is a joke. These trees were raised on a farm. Even assuming that these people are strict vegetarians, they still gotta eat veggies, right? OMG - They killed 3 carrots! Just for lunch!! And let's not even get started on how many lettuces they've decapitated. I just wanted to point out a nice cheap tree for the fake tree enthusiasts (okay, that may be stretching it a bit :)). If you want a real tree, by all means go get one. Just don't expect me to come clean up after it ;) blue flash 11-28-2005, 09:41 AM if you keep the tree watered you will not have a mess to clean up .we normally have maybe a hand full of needles to vaccum up .you probally drag in more dirt on your shoes than i have mess to clean up aftermy tree is gone.by all means they do have some nice fake trees :boring: .and then when you are finished with them you can take the to the landfil where they will be decomposing for the next 100 years . Razpewton 11-28-2005, 09:46 AM We have a fake. Went to Kmart and bought a Martha Stewart designer tree about 4 years ago. Not because I'm a plant-rights advocate....only because I'm LAZY. They're soooooooooooo much easier. By the way.....Have a Great Christmas everbuddy!!! blue flash 11-28-2005, 09:54 AM they do have some fake trees that look almost real .speaking of looking almost real did i mention my co-worker.hers look almost real also :ylsuper: MadRonin 11-28-2005, 11:00 AM This thread reminds me of the PITA member who was bitching about killing animals on a thread last year. We have no way of knowing if cockroaches feel pain, so we don't know if they suffer when we poison them. :p: As for our lawns, most municipalities have rules regarding cutting your grass at a certain height. Plus, cutting your grass does not kill it. If anything it helps it grow (if you mulch). :D: MadRonin 11-28-2005, 11:09 AM please give me a break about killing a tree .just look around your office and see how many dead trees are in your folders.have you sent a fax this morning ,SHAME ON YOU!! YOU JUST KIILED A TREE.Uh, but the dead tree went on to be used someplace else. I have no problem with responsibly cutting down trees so long as it's for a reasonable purpose. Paper is still a necessity. Cutting down a tree that's been growing for years so that you can have a decoration for a month is wasteful. If that tree is used for something afterwards, I wouldn't have as much of a problem; but it doesn't. It gets hauled off to some landfill where it decomposes. It could have been used for firewood, or lumber, or ground into saw dust for wood pellets. Luftwaffle 11-28-2005, 11:22 AM Cockroaches: I don't think something that can survive for 2 weeks with its head cut off before starving to death feels any pain. If it does, I bet it has a high tolerance. Also, I hate those damn things. They're just fast, little vectors and they stink. Elara 11-28-2005, 12:07 PM Uh, but the dead tree went on to be used someplace else. I have no problem with responsibly cutting down trees so long as it's for a reasonable purpose. Paper is still a necessity. it does have a use- it's a Christmas tree :p These trees are biodegradable, grown for the purpose of being cut down for christmas, and in general, if picked up by your local trash person, are dumped in the woodchipper/mulcher at the local landfill. And since they give out free mulch in the spring, who am I to argue? We'll be going out to the tree farm this weekend to get ours- they stay fresher if you cut them yourself instead of buying them off lots, but I've done that too before. I just can't go the plastic tree route- it's like plastic plants- they depress me. Photic 11-28-2005, 12:11 PM I was reading an article about lobsters a while back. They said that lobsters lack a nervous system complex enough to feel pain. So don't feel bad about dropping them in a boiling pot of hot water :D: Asmoran 11-28-2005, 12:30 PM Very true. And you can just disregard those screaming noises the lobster makes ;) Razpewton 11-28-2005, 12:40 PM THAT'S IT!! Photic, yer a genius, my friend! From this point on, we could all purchase lobsters, dry them out, shelac them, hang lights and ornaments on them, and place all our Christmas present around their impaled carcasses!! See what logical solutions we can arrive at by just using our common sense and God's gift of reason? Man....I luv you guys!! {{{{{GROUP HUG!!}}}}}} P.S. let me make ya a new avatar, okie dokie? Jedi54 11-28-2005, 12:52 PM WOW, did this thread ever vear off topic... NO, putting up a tree (either real or fake) a month in advance is not a bad thing. C'mon, lets not kid ourselves here. Putting up a tree is for us to enjoy the looks of it so why wait any longer? On a side note: I put up all my Christmas lights yesterday. Gonna go our and murder a tree some time this week... :mdrmed: blue flash 11-28-2005, 12:55 PM Uh, but the dead tree went on to be used someplace else. And you can just disregard those screaming noises the lobster makes ;) Actually it's not a scream, they lack vocal cords that are needed to produce a scream. My guess is it's caused when the colder parts of the lobster meet with the hot water causing steam to rapidly release, making the scream sound. I've had ice cubes scream when I put them in hot water too :) Luftwaffle 11-28-2005, 01:20 PM ^^^ What Photic said. If it makes you feel better, good for you; you're one in 300 million (literally). :p: I'm Jewish (my wife's not, hence the Christmas tree), we eat parsley at Passover, so I'm used to it. ;) Razpewton 11-28-2005, 01:59 PM WOW, did this thread ever vear off topic... I have never in my life eaten crabs or lobster, but I hear they are good. ------------------------------ About the tree, I don't care if people have them in their houses. They should do what they want. However, I think it is really rediculous to have a tree the size of the sears tower at a mall! What a waste of that tree. Was alive for so long and grew for hundreds of years only to be sawed down, covered in electricity, and then thrown away or taken to a mill after a month. For the record, even when I was a practicing Jew, I never kept kosher. As for the cow being farmed for food, I see no problem. Its death satisfies my need to eat, thereby allowing me to live. Cutting down a tree and sticking it in my living room and covering it with decorations and garland, doesn't. If you buy a live (or once live) tree for Christmas and after the season ends you do something useful with it afterwards, or give it to someone or someplace that in turn does something useful with it, then I say "Good for you."
