Lock & Load

The goldcoast as well as other parts of australia is preety bad for car theft the rx8 ,because it attracts so much attention could be targeted for theft ,what other forms of car alarm systems are you people looking at??

My biggest concern is that of joy riders who will target the rx8,we have a lot of problems with street racers ,they are fixated on fast and furious type behaviour , but they will get a BIG suprise if they try and get my car .

Are others concerned or am i going a bit paranoid in tryng to protect my ride??

Haven't looked yet... but at the Sydney drive day they refered to an alarm (Mazda I think) as an option.

The standard engine immobiliser in the RX-8 is linked to the coded ignition key. The car simply will not start any other way without the chip sending the right signal to the engine managememnt system. I'm sure that a professional car thief will be able to get around this but it should stop the opportunist joy riders that you mention Lock & Load.

You're right about the extra alarm msydd. Mazda will fit one for additional security. Why not go the whole hog and get a tracker installed.

it takes the verry experienced theif about 5mins(with the right equiptment) to steal any car reguardless of the security or immobiliser. So if your car is one that is sought after it will dissapear with out you even knowing!!!!So i wouldn't park it anywhere for too long cause it could be on someone else's shopping list ,if you know what i mean!!!

I don't know what the official or insurance stats are but we've only heard of one or two go missing without the key on this forum.

So although you are no doubt correct that a professional outfit can do it without the key (although I don't know how  ), the bigger worry is that thieves have simply moved onto car jacking.  Luckily, thus far they seem to be targeting the higher end Mercs and BMWs (and we all know those rich fat cats deserve it right - j/k).

Drive with your doors locked people and if you get a mild rear end shunt by a carload of suspicious looking jokers, do not stop and just drive straight to the nearest cop shop to report the accident. Also be alert when pulling up in your driveway, etc.

And of course, if a gun is pointed in your face - hand them the keys immediately. No car is worth dying for. Some young bloke fought over the keys to his Porsche recently and survived but you never know when a combination of fear and aggression might cause one of these desperates to pull the trigger.

After all, isn't that what we pay insurance premiums for?

I have no idea why you dragged this thread up out of the depths.....it seems you have some practical experience in this area?? Are you in the job? How do you know how long it takes? What equipment is required? If you can tell us, then we can be better prepared to combat such a theft.......forewarned is forearmed, as they say.

Mez, you had to pick a red one!
Now i'll have to stay up all night watching out for "stealth" trucks like this one! :D

It's pretty easy for anyone to get into a car, but starting takes a little more equipment these days, not your average 15 year olds kit.
Thats what we pay the bloody insurance company for anyway!

You suck..gomez ....Ruined the big suprise!!!!And the only reason I thought i'd comment(ON THE THEIFT ISSUE) is because a friends MaZDA mX6 was stolen from a large suburban shopping centre in Brisbane QLD.The car was a few years old in mint stock origional condition with only 30 thousand klms on the clock(at the time still only worth on the second hand market about 18-20k).Irronically the car was discovered in Melbourne not a scratch on it and no extra klm's added to the odomiter(the car that week just had its 30,000klm service).where they found it(the MX6) there were over 25 other cars that had been stolen over the past week all staight clean cars.Worth from 15-200k it was like a scene from the movie "GONE IN 60 SECONDS" unbelivable!!!!!!!!!the car had travelled over 2500klms in less than a week and only GOD knows were it was going from there(A HUGE FACTORY IN MELBOURNE).
