View Full Version : Where is the antenna on the rx-8?
garyinthehouse 11-19-2005, 06:48 PM hey guys, I have a 04 rx-8 and i was wondering where the antenna is on the car
The reason is because i have an mp3 player (iriver h10) and i bought an FM transmitter, the iRiver AFT-100, and i am plugging it into the second cigarette lighter. The one under the radio doesnt create as clear of a sound as the one in the middle compartment.
In anycase, where is the antenna located in the car?
and is there another cigarette lighter besides the one under the radio and the hidden on in the compartment?
THanks

rear window. It's in the owners manual.
garyinthehouse 11-19-2005, 07:02 PM lol, thanks
NgoRX8 11-19-2005, 07:02 PM yup, top edge of rear window
garyinthehouse 11-19-2005, 07:03 PM btw, is there another ciggie lighter?
tiggerlee 11-19-2005, 07:08 PM Just the two. One in ashtray. One in console.
garyinthehouse 11-19-2005, 07:11 PM thanks again bro
tiggerlee 11-19-2005, 07:15 PM You can do a search in the Interior,Audio Electronics section of the forum to see if anyone else has done anything similar. There may be other options to consider.
djseto 11-19-2005, 07:25 PM spend $80 and get the PIE adaptor. Do a search for PIE. I have my ipod hooked up to it with a RF remote. Best money spent
garyinthehouse 11-19-2005, 07:39 PM does the PIE adapter only work with an iPod?
kachud 11-20-2005, 06:34 AM The PIE adapter gives you an audio input only. Well worth the money compared to FM transmitters.
Shinka in MD 11-20-2005, 08:31 AM BTW, in addition to the coax connector at the back of the stereo, I saw another inline connector behind the trim panel that goes around the drivers' side fuse box when I was doing some other wiring there. I don't know if it's the same kind of connector as the one one the back of the stereo, which isn't the usual Motorola-style connector, instead of having a straight center conductor, it has a little ball on it that 'clicks' into place when it is inserted. The connector I saw behind the fuse panel looks like it extends the stereo coax cable to the rear window. There is plenty of space behind that trim panel to accomodate an inline rf modulator, and easy access to power using a Littlefuse Add-A-Circuit... and you could run the power thru a switch added to one of the blank fillers in the switch bay by the headlight dimmer which is only about 15 inches away to turn the modulator on and off. The inline RF Modulators are much better than the ones that radiate into the car's antenna, especially if you live in an urban area where there are transmitter sites scattered around that would swamp out your rf modulator when you are nearby to them because they switch out the external antenna when the rf modulator is in use.
garyinthehouse 11-20-2005, 12:44 PM I was looking on the PIE website, but i couldnt find anything that wasnt for the ipod. Can someone give me a direct link to what kachud commented?
THanks a lot
Gary

garyinthehouse 11-20-2005, 03:50 PM cool, can mazda do the installation for me, or do I have to do it. Like it wouldnt take a mazda tech more than an hour to do this right?
Cuz i dont want to open up my HU

no need to open the HU, just plug and play :) for the PIE adaptor :)
remove the HU plug in the back, put HU back simple if you want more info keep asking :ylsuper:
garyinthehouse 11-20-2005, 08:25 PM um, so i do have to slightly remove the hu right? This entails finding the hidden bolt under the steering wheel...removing the trim around the shifter...removing the ashtray and slightly pulling the HU out? and then plugging it in from there?
OHH im so confused! :Freak_ani
I just drove around with the wireless FM transmitter that i bought...not the best sound clarity
