Does any one have a pic of the optional aero package mazda is offering. I've looked every where and can't find a confirmed image.

Hi, I was wondering if there are more than just the side skirt and rear splash guard? I thought I seen somewhere that there was a front splash guard? If so, can someone post a picture of this front splash guard. Also, any other pics with great looking add-on features are welcome!

Thanks.

I know a lot of you ordered the appearance package, but I am wondering anyone getting the package but without the rear wing (either not like it or waiting to get one such as the lip or the MS one)?

do you mean the stupid wing, or the cool spoiler?? ;)

i'd get the spoiler, but i like the MS wing way way better than the silly Genuine factory unit.

Yes I am getting the appearance package without the rear wing. To clarify, they are two seperate items.

His location is "West Coast" so I don't know if he is talking about California or Australia.. I think the Aussie's get the lip spoiler defacto...

Sorry guys.. my bad.. just corrected it

I am thinking about getting the appearance pkg. (before the car leaves port), but deciding whether to go for the arch wing or a MS style wing.

Go with what you really want, asking opinions on subjective stuff like that never gets anywhere. You know wakeech's response, did that readlly help, probably not. :D

yea.. anyway, thanks a lot guys...
I think I am goin for the arch wing, not as stand out as the MS, and not as EXPENSIVE...

Anyway, I'm wondering the same thing with the hoop vs MS wing. Still undecided.

I just bought my 8 and it didn't have the appearance package on it, but the dealer said that they could install it for me no problem. So I bought it with the appearance package added in. Now the dealership is telling me that the parts may not be available for them to order for quite some time.:( Does anyone know if this is the case? Has anyone bought an 8 and had the appearance package added? The dealer is supposed to try to find out from Mazda tomorrow. Hopefully it will be good news.

Don't listen to grumpy, above.

I just added the Appearance package as a port option, and I'm expecting it to take a bit longer than it would if it didn't have it- but I haven't heard anything about it being backordered. But who knows- at this point, anything is possible. Be glad you've at least got your car! I ordered Feb 1st, somehow got bumped into the 3rd allocation (supposedly) and god only knows when it'll get here now.

It looks bad a$$. I'm so glad that I had that put on mine. I parked my RX-8 next to one of the dealer allocated RX-8s that didn't have it and mine looks really mean. Worth the wait IMHO.

Thanks for the opinions guys.:)
My dealership is now saying it will be about 6wks which I think translates to mean they have absolutely no idea when they can get it. I guess I'll just try to be patient.

I think I made a big mistake not ording the appearance package.
Trussville is selling the individual pieces at a reduced cost and I was thinking of ordering them. Has anyone installed the flares or air dam themselves? How difficult of a job was it?

Can someone who has actually installed the Mazda factory already-painted side skirt and rear skirt let me know how easy this was to do? I've already ordered a spoiler, and want to finish off the look. I'm only looking for info on the Mazda factory parts.

Thanks in advance.

Hi All,

Has anyone installed the appearance package by him/herself? I wonder how difficult of a job it could be.
Are holes to drill involved or everything is in place and it is just the matter of applying the body pieces and bolts, screws?

Yippee, I just reserved my RX8, GT with spoiler. However, it also comes with the appearance package. Has anyone had any problem with these scratching against speed bumps or steep driveways?

I LOVE the way it looks on the car, I'm just concerened about ground clearance.

brothervoodoo
09-18-2003, 01:10 PM
The appearance package has surprising good clearance, speed bumbs and driveways should not be an issue. Someone did mention about an extremely angled driveway that he/she had issue with, but I have had absolutely no problems with this.

Do be careful when parking, such as, pulling up to sidewalk curbs or parking islands.

JVSpiller

I have the appearance package and have not had any trouble with speed bumps. I am careful on extremely steep driveways to go up and down at an angle. The problem area I have is tire stops. Sometimes I have lots of clearance and at others it very nearly rubs. They don't seem to be a consistent height. I came within 1/4" of one today. I try to stop before I go over them, but it's hard to remember every time. Either way, I'm glad I got the package because it really adds to the appearance.

I agree, the apperience package does have good ground clearance compared to some cars I've owned and driven. Just watch out for those parking blocks. But who cares if it does get whacked, just another reason for a body kit.

Elara

The appearance package is only a half-inch lower than the standard bumper- I've had no problems with anything, speedbumps, steep driveways, or anything else. You'll be fine.

Folks,

I know I have only asked questions so far but that is because I don't have my car yet (should arrive in 4th week of October). Therefore, I can not really contribute to the forum with useful info on the RX8.

Please pardon me for this.

However, I am still hesitant whether to have Mazda port-install the appearance package on my 8 or I should just do it myself. I simply can't decide if I indeed like how it looks.

If it is easy to do, however, and does not involve drilling holes and such then I would rather wait and see if I like the 8 without it. Then I could always add the package later on if I decide so.

Any info would greatly be appreciated,
Erik

Sorry no one replied but I guess nobody has actually done it themeselves. I would be a bit surprised if there was no drilling invlolved (even the cargo net needed drilling or at least some effort to expand the holes for the the grommet). If you don't like to tinker around than I would suggest you get it installed at port and save youself the time and effort. According to the invoice sheet the cost difference between MSRP and invoice for the Appearance Package is around $150...

Erik's8
09-19-2003, 01:18 PM
Thanks brothervoodoo,

What I meant by not having to drill holes is that I assumed the holes are pre-drilled in the factory and they are just covered with a piece of plastik or are plugged in.

Anyway, you are right I should not mess with it myself.

I bought the car with the apperance package and I think it looks awesome. I dont think anyone has self installed. I guess it depends on how good you are with cars. the front air dam looks like it uses 3m adhesive and the side and back pieces do use screws.

Erik's8
09-19-2003, 01:30 PM
Thanks mikeb,

Then the front air dam seems to be a no-brainer to install.

The side flares are the ones that concern me the most.
But if someone who does NOT have the app package could look under his/her car then he/she would probably see if there are any plugs or suspicios holes where the side flares would mount.

I would have thought the same thing, and though I don't know one way or the other, I've been thinking of installing a factory body kit for my wife's Honda Civic, and it doesn't require any drilling at all for the side and rear skirts. Here's the pdf instruction sheet for that. I sure wish someone would post the one for the RX-8 at some point.

Since I have not purchased the RX-8 yet (waiting till the end of the month), I really considering not getting the appearance package.

I think it looks nice and everything but, I definately like the Mazdaspeed kit much better. So, if I plan on getting this later, would it be a waste of money to get the appearance package. I would think that all the mazda appearance package stuff would have to come off to put the other kit on. Is this right?

mikeb
10-08-2003, 06:36 PM
yes , if you want to add the ms kit later dont get the appreance package. save the cash

BRx8
10-08-2003, 10:42 PM
personally, i like the look of the app package more...it accentuates the lines of the car and makes it look more sporty IMO...the MS body kit makes it look a lot more aggressive but also bulkier which i don't prefer...

in the end i feel that the stock RX-8 is too plain without one of these bodykits...so whichever you get will make your car look a lot better but get definitely get one

mikeb
10-09-2003, 02:00 AM
I agree
the ms kit is awesome but I would be worried about speedbumps and other ground clearance issues with it on

10-10-2003, 01:12 AM
I would also be concerned if you put the appearance package spoiler on, and then went to swap it for Mazdaspeed...are you going to have to patch some holes? It looks like you might.

Damn, when you put it that way, the MS kit doesn't seem so bad...the appearance package doesn't even need to be shipped from Japan.

I think the appearance pkg is about 970 or so just shy of 1000. I believe the spoiler is about 355 or so. If I remember right there's a website devoted to spoilers where you can get it much cheaper.

You could also do a combination as well. I got the the Mazda Appearance Package and spoiler but also ordered the Mazda Speed Side Flares.

Curious... wouldn't it be easy to put on the MS stuff if even you bought the Mazda factory accessories -- note: without the rear spoiler?

Maybe I should have asked this before I bought mine. But in any event, I did not get the rear spoiler.

As a side note, I like the 8 stock -- a lot. But after seeing some pics with certain accessories (specifically the rear and side aero flares, and front air-dam) I had to have it. I have the stock red GT as my Win XP background and everytime my girlfriend sees it she tells me she thinks "my car looks much better". I don't think she even knows what a spoiler is lol ;)

I also thought that getting the 3yr accessory warranty at time-of-purchase was worth it.

I'm starting to like the combo idea more and more. That Virtual Garage thing over at Mazda Japan rocks! Right now I'm liking the aero package air damn w/ rotary accents and the Mazdaspeed spoiler and side skirts. I think the Mazdaspeed mirrors look good, but if they're don't even have the electric motors....lame!

Note: this is Canada related (does it make a diff? dunno).

When I bought the car, having the accessories put on at delivery meant that they were covered under the normal 3 year car warranty. If I had them put on later, they were covered under a 1 year warranty.

I installed the front air dam on my car yesterday and it wasn't that bad. It took a couple hours and you have to drill 6 holes. That was the worst part. I dont like to drill into my car! The directions show to remove the entire front bumper. Screw that! I just started from underneath.

I have seen the other threads that discuss self installing the front air dam, side aero flares, and rear aero flares; however, I was wondering if there are any special tools or drill bits need to do it.

What problems or setbacks are in store for me so I can prepare myself for them?

Any information will be helpful.

I don't really like the side skirts of the appearance package because of the abrupt stop in the middle of the door. I think it looks ok on the darker colors, but it is too noticeable on yellow.

Does anyone agree?

I like the front lip and rears, but I think I would look towards aftermarket for the sides.

The reason I ask is because there is a yellow 8 with yellow leather in town, but it has the appearance package on it.

XDEEDUBBX

I looked at a yellow with cloth and no appearance package today near work. The one with yellow leather is a little ways north of me. I am going to check it out tomorrow night.

The one thing I really noticed today is how much space there is between body panels. Between the hood and front fenders and around the back doors, especially. It still looked good, but the darker colors might hide the extra space better.
