View Full Version : Personalized Plates...
DaTaSPiKe 07-28-2003, 04:57 PM Hoping to be a future (next month or two) owner of an RX-8 I am wondering if you all have done any personalized licenses plates...
Currently on my 2001 Celica GT-S, I've got the following... any one else got some suggestions on a nice vanity plate?
TJRX8 07-28-2003, 08:47 PM Definately not that one. Asking for trouble are you?
Search for a couple other threads with numerous ideas.
ZoomZoom 07-29-2003, 03:51 AM    You've got balls.

:D Actually I get more comments than anything. And most of the times I've gotten pulled over the cops have been half decent, and ask what the plates are supposed to mean and I give them the story that my aunt is a cop and I used to see her all the time while driving and I would say I See You To Cop, and that is how the plate came to be, and they would be like oh, cool, well slow down or whatever and usually I wouldn't get a ticket. But then again, I have gotten some assholes at the same time... eh, oh well. But thanks, I'll do a search.

OmegaBob 07-29-2003, 11:24 AM I will be transfering my old plate from my 2k Celica GT-S AT (RIP) to my 8.
It reads: OMEGA B
I wanted to put "omegabob" on it, but figured I didn't want other people to know my name. (also, didn't want to make it easier for psycho stalker ex-gf to find my car).
I am considering changing it to
OMEGA RX8
But I'm not sure it'd fit or even sound good.
The Beav 07-29-2003, 11:41 AM i was hoping to just get "wankel" on mine, i want to put something like "dabeav" since it's my old nickname from high school, but most people would think of the other use of the world beav (as in part of a woman)
cueball 07-29-2003, 11:48 AM One reason I wouldn't want a vanity plate is it makes a car more reconizable. Say you blow by a cop and you have a custom plate than he or she is more likely to remember what you plate is, but if it is a bunch of letter or numbers than it is harder to remember.

Yeah, thats my thought... I figure if I were to ever get vanity plates, I would want something like "OQQOOQQO" - figure that way, no one would know which was an O and which was a Q...
Quick_lude 07-29-2003, 01:07 PM I'll probably transfer my current one.. QIKSILVR :)

Or say some jerk thinks you cut them off or something, or thinks you're driving too fast on the highway so they call the cops on you. Or causes an accident, and then blames it on you.

P.S. I dont' see "ICU2COP" causing problems with any police officers. Something like "FU-COP" would, but not "ICU2COP".
boowana 07-29-2003, 04:28 PM Not bad...
Gord96BRG 07-29-2003, 07:06 PM I've held off until now without getting a personalised plate. We couldn't resist ordering two when we registered the RX-8, though - the opportunity won't present itself again like this!
I have to give all the credit to a RX-8forum member, Zoom44. Thanks for the idea! (I hope you're not in Alberta, Canada, or I stole your plate - sorry! ;) )
96 Miata - plate "ZOOM 42"
04 RX-8 - plate "ZOOM 44"
They should arrive in about 6 weeks!
Regards,
Gordon
grogiefrog 07-29-2003, 07:23 PM That is a great plate!
A cool plate that a guy I knew had... he had an RX-7 and was going to school in Wyoming. Wyoming plates all start with the county code followed by the cowboy, then the rest of the numbers. He lived in county "1", and then followed it with "HOT 7"... Gee, someone can now do the same with the RX-8. Anyone from Wyoming out there? Now that's a great state for a RX-8. A lot of open mountain roads... That was a great place for a weekend drive with my 1st Gen RX-7.

Of course, this works best on a black 8 with irregular vertical orange stripes.
Helps if you like corn flakes, too...
TJRX8 08-05-2003, 05:57 PM I8AV8
Shocka 08-18-2003, 08:34 PM 4 NIK 8

We thought about:
RXLR8
8IZENUF
8BLUBYU
dcfc3s 08-18-2003, 09:11 PM On my '88 RX-7 Turbo 10th Anniversary, the license plate is RX-7GURU. I gotta hurry up and get an '8 so I can register RX-8GURU :).
BTW, it takes a LONG time to get to guru status :).

Napboy 08-18-2003, 09:16 PM Ordered mine recently.
RX ADDCT
Get the double meaning?
MaRX8 08-18-2003, 10:10 PM My Plate has about 4 different ways of interpertation.
MARX8
(MAR)k's 8
(MAR)k's (RX8)
(MA)zda (RX8)
(MA) (RX8) <- My RX8
1stRX8 08-28-2003, 07:42 AM Mine read
Texas: ROTA8
I like it.
got the plate, just need the car now (had to borrow a press car for this shot)
91vert 08-28-2003, 08:13 PM Like boowana's plate in Texas, I was lucky enough to snag the RX-8 plate in Missouri before somebody else got it.
I'll admit it is not a very clever plate......quite boring actually, but I think it will be neat to have after the car is gone.

pelucidor 08-28-2003, 10:46 PM As Boowana had RX-8 in Texas I initially thought about getting RED RX-8. But that's way too obvious....
However on several occasions people driving next to me have signalled to me to wind down the window so they could say things like 'nice car, is it a V8?'. No, it's a 2ROTOR. Sadly ROTARY was already taken.
Aratinga 08-28-2003, 11:35 PM Ordered and waiting for:
MORX8NG
Yeah, it's a stretch, but all the good ones were taken!
foodiedave 08-30-2003, 12:08 AM I RO T8

Mrs. SHOWOFF 08-30-2003, 12:40 AM "WAS HIS" That pic rocks!:p

Bob The Eskimo 09-05-2003, 09:28 PM How about 14U2NV.
It's already taken in FL.
Bob
Rudenauer 09-06-2003, 02:24 AM My plate is pretty boring in comparison to all these. But, I ordered it from the DMV here in CA over the internet about 2 months before I bought the car (foregone conclusion considering I already put in a deposit and had a VIN). It was available, so I figured wtf:
2004 RX8
Now I just need the registration form so I can pick it up. Picture to follow...
Turbo Matty P 09-06-2003, 03:31 AM My vanity tag on my 322hp 1990 Taurus SHO was: MR XLR8R. (mister accelerator), my neighbor asked me what it stood for. I told here and all her friends just bust out laughing. I figured they thought it was slow. My neighbor thought it stood for "Mr. Xtra Large Playa Hater" I rolled my eyes and pranced away.

Fifth interpertation:

You should plan to attend one of them. Details on First Annual festival is in NE Region forum.
RX8-U-UP 09-12-2003, 06:20 PM This one is now official (after a two month wait!)

Elara 09-12-2003, 11:20 PM It's not here yet, and I'm on my second set of 30 day tags, but the plate I reserved is ELARAS8. So it won't be too hard to pick me out of a crowd.
TreknMazda 09-13-2003, 04:20 PM After two months and three temporary plates, my tags have arrived. Think I may have to paint the TREKN8 black to match the rest of the tag and the car.;) In case you are wondering, that is an SR-71, aka 'Blackbird', on the tag. The SR-71 holds the air speed record from New York to London, under 2 hours.
mmjames 09-13-2003, 04:25 PM Sharp. Really Sharp.
Mitch Strickler 09-13-2003, 04:42 PM LSTFLNG
In D.C., where the car is registered, you have to explain why you want a particular vanity plate. I said that I'm 71; as far as cars go, this is my last fling. (I usually keep cars about ten years. At 81, I may want something a bit less sporty.)
Gord96BRG 09-21-2003, 02:59 PM My two personalised plates arrived 2 weeks ago - today was the first chance I had to get them both washed and photo'd together since then...
Now you can see where the '96BRG' in my forum name is from!
Regards,
Gordon
h0rde 09-21-2003, 10:21 PM my 8's plate says RENESIS
Zoom2X 09-22-2003, 01:03 AM I wanted ZOOM 2X (ZOOM ZOOM) but it was taken, as was ZOOM X2, ended up with ZOOM RX8
