Hey, I've read some stories here about taking a test drive and getting into an accident. Obviously the dealership has insurance to compensate for an accident but my question is....
while test driving a car and you unfortunately get pulled over for speeding and receive a ticket, who pays for it - the dealer or you?

You speed you pay. Why should the dealer pay for your excess speed? You have an accident, their insurance might cover it or they might come after you. Not good business practice but it would not surprise me.

hmmm, thanks for the reply.
however, what about those instances when the dealer riding with you says "punch it" thus telling you to speed. it would be interesting how that would play out with who pays what.

 You are responsible for your actions. No salesman can force you to speed. If you choose to speed at the urging of a car salesman, it is still your action and your fault.
I can't believe you could even consider this a factor! If I tell you to jump that rickety broken bridge like the Dukes of Hazzard always did, and you're stupid enough to actually try it, it's still your fault and your responsibility - not mine. ;)
Don't be looking for someone to blame - be responsible for your irresponsibility!:p

Yep, the driver is ALWAYS responsible if he/she gets into an accident or got a traffic violation.
Just like piloting an recreational plane, For example, if you as the pilot in command request to have the wrong type of fuel to be put into your plane, even if you crash and die, the airport will not be held responsible for the crash.

ok, just to clarify - I would never attempt to do anything anything remotely stupid such as speeding while test driving, or for that matter recklessly speeding at all. I was just curious to see who would actually pay for the ticket depending on the situation and behavior of both the driver and dealer.
and yes, i'm sure there have been instances where someone might have "tried" to get out of a speeding ticket by putting the blame on the dealer.
yes, you are responsible for your actions but there are ppl out there that weasel their way out of it and put blame on others such as this woman who embezzled 250k from her employer to splurge on shopping sprees. Is this woman responsible? Definitely! Does she have to pay? NO! yes, it is unfair that she doesnt have to pay nor does she have to spend a single day in jail to indemnify her employer for her actions b/c the judge ruled she had a compulsive shopping addiction. sucks, i know!
anyways, I was just curious as to the variety of situations that might occur while taking a test drive and receiving a ticket. and i repeat, it was NOT i that got a ticket while test driving nor do i have any intention to do so :)

Pay the ticket. You play - you pay. ;)
