My house is the only one built on my tiny street so far - took us a year to build and we moved in 3 months ago. Just around the corner there is a house I see as I come through the security gates. Yesterday my jaw dropped as I saw an odd looking Mercedes rear end - could it be... Yes, a Maybach parked in his driveway. Can't tell which one - probably a 57.

The really surprising thing is that it is parked OUTSIDE his garages, next to his HumVee Mk1 (open top) and Ford F350. Inside the garages are some much nicer cars: so far I have seen the grey Diablo, the blue Bentley Arnage and an Aston Martin when the garage doors are open. The really sad thing is I have never seen him drive ANY of his vehicles except the Ford F350 (he only takes the Diablo out of the garage to wash it occasionally).

When I get the RX-8 I will introduce myself to him and offer him the chance to swap vehicles (Aston or Diablo preferably) for a few days so he can see what a rotary engine feels like...;)

BTW his neighbour is some football player who has a stack of Mercedes' (I'm talking G-wagon, SL, CL, S600) all in black. Boy do I feel poor around here.

Hello There

Consider your self the lucky one. Yes your neighbor has some pretty nice cars, but you have just the same if not a higher quality of a vehicle for less the third of the cost. I have driven the 8, and for handleing and power you have a great car and it would be his loss if he didnt take you up on your offer!!!!

Once you get in good with the guy, ask him if he'll buy you...oh crap, I can never remember the name of the car...it's real cheap, everyone knows it or has one...that's right, an M5.:D

Well I feel poor compared to you, so its all relevant.:)

At least you can say you live next to someone who drives those cars. It would always be an interesting point of conversation to bring up as well.

it seems you live in an affluent neighborhood so at least your property value wont go down anytime soon lol

looks like you've only seen the outside of his house with all his fancy smancy cars. I wonder what it must be like INSIDE his house :D Bling Bling i bet

Pelucidor posted pics of his house a while back...he's not hurting by any means. Search and you'll see what I mean... 7 figures.

Shy of automatic climate control, a fully loaded RX-8 is all the luxury I would ever need.

Put $10K into performance options including a modest 7 PSI or so turbo/supercharger and the RX-8 would compete on almost every level as the performance luxury sports cars.

That is except for tha lack of automatic climate control :)

The cars for the masses are getting so good these days, that I just don't see the need to go luxury route even if I had a bunch o' money laying around.

man sounds like u got a nice house.. enjoy that.. houses have more value then cars neway..

in a similar story my neighbor has always had nice cars.. currently CLK, RX330, ML320 and Camry Solara Convertable. I was always impressed by his driveway, but the day i brought the RX-8 home, he came over to my house to check out the car. it was the first time in 10 years that ive talked to him, but he was a really nice car and knew alot about cars. He took me to his garage where he has a Shelby Sitting..

I haven't seen the Maybach apart from that first weekend. Either he had just borrowed it for a long test drive, or it's sitting in the garage (thought it might be too big) never to see the light of day like his Lambo. Personally I don't think he has it anymore because a few days later I saw a cheapass MB S55 AMG in the driveway briefly - the neighborhoods going to the dogs for sure...

The other day I saw him standing outside his house, so I drove by especially slowly in the RX-8 thinking he might approach me for a ride in my 210-247hp beast, but he just carried on with his gutter inspection. Obviously not a real car fan.
