Hehe my girlfriend got mad at me.. she was in car sales at the time and I bought it from another dealership.. (Now why the hell would I go to a GM dealership to buy a Mazda?!)

Haha, I can totally relate to this.

My long-time girlfriend sometimes just gets sick of me talking about RX-8's all day long.
Oh, and she wasn't too thrilled when I spent ALL-DAY Saturday applying Zaino to it. (made us late for dinner)

Although, whenever we want to go somewhere she always says, "Lets take the pretty car!"
When I'm driving it she turns into a big kid and I have heard her utter the words "zoom zoom" when I'm flying through a turn. :wavey:

My wife is a brunette. She calls the 8 "Blondie" and refers to is as my girlfriend. Actually, all her friends and co-workers refer to the car as my girlfriend now too.

It's not so bad now, but when I was doing different installs, I would spend days working on the car.

My wife HATES my 8. I basically get the stink eye every time it is mentioned. She thinks I put more work into my car than I put into home improvements. (duuuhhh)

She may be right. I tagged a rim on a curb the other day and within 24 hours a had the blemishes repaired so that you could not even see them any more. There were some holes in the walls of my house from the prior occupants that I have puttied up but I have never sanded them in three years.

Yep. I love her. Oh, I love my wife to.

Once after some particularly hot sex, my wife turned to me and said, "Honey, you are amazing!" And I, being a particularly smart man said, "so would this be a good time to ask if I can spend $400.00 on a new high flow cat?" :bottom:

Seems to me you might have made the right choice... :p:

What do people who hook up on this site do on the first date? Take separate cars, park their next to eachother and take turns buffing the other's hood hood in the moon light? Hey, that sounds like a good time. We are sick, sick people.

two or three, maybe, years ago, I was to celebrate my 1 year anniversary with one of my girlfreinds. I decided to spend the entire day in a machine shop making adjustable wing struts for a race car.

She came over at about 11 at night, after recieving no answer to her dozens of calls. She walked in all non chalant, and asked what I was doing. I, all excited, explained my clever creation and demonstrated it to her. She wasn't impressed. Apparently, I was supposed to go out for dinner, and get all romantic and shit.

Bah, they come, they go.

You should start it. I am sure you have a more recent story to start it off than I. Admittedly I have one or two naughty stories but most of them pre-date my RX8 ownership.

What's wrong with your wife's hands that they don't fit around a sanding block? :p:

:101384_l: My wife says I look funny in the car, being middle aged and overweight. I made her happy in my own special way when I bought a 95 Ford pu on ebay for us to take instead of the 8 whenever we are seen together.

Well, last winter when my wife got my credit card bill and noticed that I had spent $200 at the car wash in January, she wasn't too pleased. Other than that, she loves it.

Hmmm.... my wife sort of understands. She says the car suits me and she didn't put the brakes on the purchase at all even though we have three daughters and she can't drive a stick-shift at 34. Fortunately, that works well with our life-style. Most of the time I drive the daughters here and there when she is at work. On the few occassions the 5 of us travel together we take her van.

However, she doesn't appreciate the time I spend washing and waxing (something I never did for the Subaru winter-beater the RX-8 replaced) and she's not interested in the mods and upgrades I want to make to the car or the fancy features it came with. In fact, she doesn't care to hear about my car at all.

*That's* why I hang out here. :)

C'mon Stew, everyone knows that we dont actually take our cars to the carwash.
Guess your wife finally figured out that...

My gf absolutely loves the car (wants one of her own ;)). She, and I quote, loves "the sound of the rotary". She loves it when I drive fast. Loves helping me keep it clean. As has had a blast learning how to drive a manual in it. I luvs her. :)

Oooooh!!! I *hate* when people call it a mid-life crisis car. I'm 33!

:FIREdevil :Kill2: :Kill1: :uzi: :ar: :ak47:

Mostly I don't care what other people think, but I do find it a little embarrasing when some jerk calls it a mid-life-crisis-car in front of a group (if they call it that 1:1 I just get in the car and run them over).
:nono:

However, I did think of one more embarrasing thing - sometimes the NAV system talks (with her sultry female voice) when I'm using my cell phone in the car (hands-free ear-piece in place, of course). My wife recognizes the NAV now, but did tease me about having a girl in the car the first few times. I can imagine several difference scenarios of her speaking at a bad time when I'm driving and using the phone.

Actually, I was dating someone from the club for a little while. We met at a meet and did most of the car stuff together (meets, club activities, shows, etc.). I helped him with his light bulb conversion. We usually took his car since he said he got claustrophic if he wasn't driving. I think it's because my car was hotter. :D: When his parents saw my car they told him, "Why doesn't yours look that good?" LOL, it was classic.

Sorry to say, we're not together anymore... and he's chosen to stay away from the club while we heal. Hopefully he'll be back soon. (So yes Fred, that means I'm single now. ;) )

My wife gets annoyed at me, since the 8 gets washed by me just about every week, and I take hers to the hand wash down the road whenever she asks.

She thinks I spend a lot of time with the car, and club related activities. But she knows that it is my hobby, and I was doing this before we got married, so she is ok with it most of the time.

She has a hard time getting in and out of it, and can't drive it, so that bugs her.

Overall it is not too bad.

Here is one you havn't heard yet....:

When my father and I drove the car home from the dealership, my mom had NO idea what to expect. She was watering her flowers in the front and we drove by to see what kind of reaction she would give. When she looked up and stared right at the car and then continued watering again, we thought something was wrong! Once we came back around the block and parked in the driveway, she literally dropped the house and yelled how she didn't expect that to be us!

Of course she wasn't too happy with my dear old papa, but as long as we didn't mention the car in front of her for about a month, we were okay.

I was out of a relationship for a little bit before I got the car and after the first day I drove it to school...well....I was a bit more popular. For about a week, I was beating people off left and right with a stick at lunch. Needless to say my best friend still is #1 on passenger detail.

It didn't help either that about a few months later, my personalized plate came in. After that went on there, another week went by when random people were asking me if that was my car. I even had a teacher ask me about it. (Come on, how many Noah's could there possibly be...)

It is not as if this is the nicest car in the senior parking lot, because well Newport is pretty loaded with rich kids. I just don't think any of them know anything about cars so they would rather have a bmw instead of a mazda. I also gave up trying to explain what a rotary is...

Another way this car has gotten me in trouble, but in a good way, is when my brother and sister came home from college. My brother drove a new (at the time) pontiac grand am gt 2 door. My sister drove a new beatle. I got a new rx-8, + it was a buy not a lease. There was a lot of :crying: to the parents about that one.

Being the spoiled third born is so awesome!

It really is a car like no other.....for better or for worse.

Yeah, but is he *jealous*. Miatas are fun, but I think the RX-8 beats them flat every day of the week and twice on Tuesday. Do you lavish extra care on your `8 above and beyond what his Miata and truck get?

As the thread says.... "got you in any trouble?"

MY fiance actually bought the car because he knew I wanted it! Only problem was that I was on disablity because of a car accident and couldn't afford it. Soon after I started working, he handed me the keys to the car and hasn't driven it since. He's great! :)

I've bitched about this before and I'll bitch again

What is it with people expecting you to drive some sort of minivan or boring sedan??? The second you get something that even hints at sportiness people have all kinds of dumbass shit to say.....and the women in your life all of a sudden feel like they need to be competing with your car... its funny, but annoying :D

It seems the ladies here are not having a prob. w/ their guys! Does that mean that women are jealous over a car, and boyfriends just love chicks who own an 8? Perhaps if the wife/gf had one too..hmmm..

My hubbie is the one who test drove her and bought her, I got to pick out what color we bought. Now, he won't even bother to get in the driver's seat when we go out. He knows she and I have become "one". And if there is a need for separate cars, he just throws me my RX-8 keys...RESISTANCE IS FUTILE! That car has magic powers I think maybe! :worship:
