Is anyone having a problem with the stick shift vibrating especially in first gear? Maybe it's a side-effect of the short shifter? Getting on my nerves though.

How much? Just vibrations or actual movement?

nap, there's another thread discussing this, do a search. I haven't really followed that discussion so I don't remember any of the details.

Mine vibrates a little while idling. I read somewhere that is common, but I couldn't find the thread with a search.

stick vibrating is normal. and is very common with alot of cars, evo, sti, 350z, etc.

relax guys. lol u guys r spazing out about every little thing. clutch noise, sstick vibrating, a/c unit, incorrect dyno, etc.

The stick vibrates because the engine is running. :D

I have to agree with tribal. If the car isn't actually running, leaking fluids, or something more catistrophic, then be concerned. But you're just going to drive yourself crazy(no pun intended) looking for every little problem.

If I was looking for smart ass replies like the last few, I would ask my mother. These questions are asked out of mere curiosity. So unless you have something to contribute, don't bother posting.

I think it would be a great idea asking your mother about vibrating sticks. She's probably a real authority on the subject considering she uses them all the time. Maybe you guys can compare your vibrating sticks and have a real bonding moment :eek:

Every car I've ever owned that has been a stick has vibrated at idle, and even at higher speeds or RPMs.

It happens, it's normal, don't stress....

answer is that it's a direct linkage so you're going to get more vibration than the typical cable set-ups that damp vibration.

Good News for Nap Boy,

I had some considerable stick shift rattle and shake too. I would go driving for 45minutes and have 10minutes of pins-needles feeling in my right hand. No joke for those who do not have this issue -- it is not that nit-picky at all. The good news is that suddently it stopped around 325 miles. I feel much better now. No pins and needles.

No doubt. If you're holding it when you're not shifting it, you need to let go :)

Just like a suspension balance, you can never please everyyone with something like this. Make it cable/more dampened, and people will comment about not enough feel. Make it less dampened/direct and people will comment about too much feel.
But either way its usually a pretty nit-picky preference if you ask me.

What's important to me with the shifter is how nice the throws were, and they seemed right up my alley in the car I got to sit and play around in. Takes some driving time for a final verdict on that though :)

Thanks for the replies. I wasn't trying to piss anyone off so I apologize for being snappy. Anyway, after about 200 miles, the vibration seems to have dampened, but it's probably too early to tell. I guess I'm not used to that kind of vibration.

By the way, I've been lurking on this site since last year, but I've had nothing to say until I actually rec'd the car. Damn, I love it.

I did not buy a G35, partly because of the vibration in the shifter. My BMW540 has VERY little vibration in the shifter, and I hope the RX8 I am buying is the same. Since it is something you handle all the time driving, it is definitely nicer if it has a smooth feel.

No, as both I and Napboy have said there is clearly much less vibration going on in our cars. . . maybe they have settle in a bit . . . whatever it is, i still have my hand on the shifter -- no probs anymore.

you can see the vibration, and feel it a little, but before you could even HEAR it.

and it was vibrating a lot in neutral

it's not a vibration you just felt, you can see it

it seems like the remedy is to get a heavy shift knob to dempend the vibration

try that Roto, it helps on my bike when i put heavy bar end weights

bump to the top

so after you guys get the car, do you feel it vibrating now?

how about the whole shifter convulsing up and down on uneven pavements?
