View Full Version : what's wrong with people?
rotarygod 10-28-2005, 09:15 PM This is my little rant that backs up what I have always said and have always believed. I am the ONLY person on the road that knows how to drive. At least around here. I have yet to be proven wrong.
I was driving home a little bit ago from a friend's house. Just driving normally. Nothing out of the ordinary. I wasn't cutting anyone off. I wasn't swerving. I wasn't speeding. Just doing 45 in a 45 in the right lane with not much else going on. I come up to a light that already had some other cars at it waiting. The Accord to my left decides he wants in my lane at the light. I don't know why as both lanes were just as long. It wasn't going to be any faster. Maybe he realized that he wanted to turn and was in the wrong lane? Normally I wouldn't care but he decided this when he was directly next to me and we were both doing about 5 mph and only a few car lengths from stopped traffic. He definitely saw me as I saw him look back at me. He moves over. Keep in mind that I am almost stopped and already occupy the space he wants. That's a conflict of interest and definitely a physics problem. He forces me to move out of his way and onto the shoulder a bit and I slowly get behind him. I was a little confused and pissed but I let it go. He didn't even need to turn. He just moved over. What a tool. He even looked back at me after he did it just to see how I felt about it. The light goes green and he just casually drives off. He didn't need to get over as he wasn't turning anywhere soon. I see the cars ahead of us hitting the brakes in the right lane because someone was turning up ahead. Keep in mind I am directly behind the Accord at this point and have done nothing hostile back to him for his stupidity and lack of driving ability. He has also done nothing further so maybe he was just a bad driver. I decide to move into the left lane which was clear instead of slowing down in the right lane. I moved over and tucked in behind a Dodge truck. The right lane slows down, the Accord slows down, we keep moving and I pass him. The Accord then moves back over into my lane and proceeds to drive normally. He wasn't being aggresive either at this point. Why he moved over in front of me is a mystery. Just that one really rude and stupid move at the light. That was the only dumb thing he did. The left lane that I was in was still not moving at the speed limit though which was 45 mph. As I pass the car in the right lane that was turning, the right lane cleared up. I moved over. The second I did, the Dodge I had been following floored it and caught up to traffic way in front of him. He had been the holdup. He wasn't going to let me go faster than him. Wtf? Another moron? When I get back up to traffic he stays just far enough back so I couldn't get in front of him if I wanted to. When my lane slowed down for turning cars ahead, he slowed down too just to make me mad so I couldn't go around. I haven't done anything to anybody. I have only been driving normally and hadn't even retaliated against the Accord that cut me off and now this american built shitbox is purposely pissing me off and blocking me. Why? What the hell is wrong with people? What did I do? I had to get back over into his lane because my turn was coming up. When I slowed down, he slowed down. When I sped up, he sped up. He wouldn't let me over. It was only when I got so fed up I purposely tried to hit him in the right rear corner to spin him out that he actually gave way and moved. He didn't want to get in a wreck. I actually did and he knew it! This tactic of mine scares my girlfriend btw but I have yet to actually hit anyone so it can't be that bad. I got over where I needed to be and turned into my subdivision and he drove off. He didn't try to slam on his brakes after I got behind him. That was 2 different jackoffs that purposely were agressive towards me one right after the other and all I had been doing is driving normally minding my own business. What the hell is wrong with people? What was the point of that? I did nothing to anyone and they were trying to piss me off on purpose. Ever wonder where road rage comes from? Its 2 inbreds driving an Accord and a Dodge pickup on the north side of Houston.
geeko.o 10-28-2005, 09:41 PM Well I just got roadrage today in my RX8. I bought her yesterday and drove for about 3 hours or so on the road with no problems what so ever. Today I am just crusing doing 60 in the 60 zone in the right lane. No cars around me and I get to a set of lights. This riced out civic pulls up beside me, body kit, pink neons, stickers everywhere, loud exhaust and is packed with 4 east indian people. You know, before I continue, I wonder why I don't become a racist. Sometimes it would be worth it. Anyways, I look over and the person whom is sitting in the passanger seat yells out " oh , whiteboy is driving mommy and daddy's car, how about a race so my friend can smoke you in his civic". I looked over and I chuckled, my car is in the break in process so obvisouly i'm not going to and even if it wasn't i'm not wasting my gas on a civic. I shook my head and that's when things got personal. He starts shouting things off like "Brown power" "We'll always fuck them whiteboys up" "If it's white it's ain't right" I swear to you on my life it was these exact words he was saying. I was so fed up and I didn't want to stand at a red light any longer with these tool's so I quickly put on my right blinker and I turned into a side street and made a different get go route to my girlfriends house. BTW, my girlfriend is brown. Oh the irony! Anyways, I hate horrid drivers and I hate racists. They can go suck-it. End of rant!
Krankor 10-28-2005, 10:02 PM Excellent solution.
vectorwolf 10-28-2005, 10:30 PM Lol, great stories. Keep 'em coming. I KNOW I have plenty of my own, but I can't think of them right now.

rotarygod 10-29-2005, 12:03 AM atleastiwasusingpunctuationandspacing!
Well,
Today I was driving up to a meeting across town. It started raining and aparently people in PR forget how to drive as soon as a drop falls.
I get on the on ramp to the express way and as Im merginf in (at 10 MPH) the guy on a Rodeo (isuzu) speeds up and blocks me, since the merge lane is clear but his lane is full I keep side by side to him trying to get into the lane.
This a hole just keeps gettin closer and closer to the car in front of him and me just to block me.
Solution, I let him by, roll down my window and knock on his door with my left hand (he was that close)
He aparently freaked out because he gave me a verry dirty look when I did this.
Btw you can get shot for doing this so dont try it. It was a momentary reaction and I will work on not loosing my temper at a holes next time.
My 'what's wrong with people rant' for today has to do with elevators.
Why do people insist on trying to get ON an elevator BEFORE the other people can get OFF? Gawd, this irks the hell out of me. When I'm waiting for an elevator I make sure to stand back far enough so that the people can leave the elevator when it stops and opens. Isn't that just normal common sense?
Apparently not, because invariably people will make a point out of getting in front of me as if to demonstrate that I'm standing too far from the door. Then the elevator opens, the people inside have to struggle to get out because of these nimrods standing right in front of the damned door. It happens almost EVERY TIME. What in the world is so hard about leaving a few feet of room, waiting for the people to get off, then calmly walking onto the elevator? Do they think the elevator is going to accelerate out of sight without warning? OH NO, IT MIGHT DISAPPEAR! I'll SACRIFICE MY BODY SO THAT MY COMRADES CAN GET ABOARD!!! Sheesh.

Dam Starbucks didn't have any sort of bread or cookies for sale today.
::End rant::
Krankor 10-29-2005, 01:55 AM I'd say my pet driving rant is people born without a brain such that they think that it's perfectly ok while driving a car to *share a lane with a motorcycle*. My blood pressure is going through the roof just remembering some of the incidents of this I have had to deal with, I think I'll stop now...
Im_DANomite 10-29-2005, 02:02 AM let me call the whambulance for all you whiners. it's you against the entire country of terrible drivers.
280RX-8 10-29-2005, 02:41 AM I think it's supposed to be "waaambulance," but as far as whining goes, these are examples of the sort of idiotic driving attitude that gets people killed and injured. Call it whining if you want, but that's better than being too much of a dipshit to act responsibly on the road.

Nubo, that drives me nuts too. At least if get on last, you can be closest to the door and if you are lucky enough that those same people have to get off before you, you can just ignore there presence and let them struggle to get around you and get off. If they can't be conscious of your presence, then you might as well return the favor... :fawk:
MI_FamilyMan 10-29-2005, 08:33 AM I hate when you are at a stoplight that's two lanes wide, and across the intersection it goes down to one lane, and everyone's backed up because they are waiting in the proper lane, and some jerkoff tries to zoom the right lane and leap frog everyone else that is patiently waiting in line like they are special or something.
There will always be trouble on the roads because:
1. Everyone thinks they are better drivers than they are
2. People are not paying attention to what they are doing
3. People think they are indestructable behind the wheel
4. Getting behind the wheel makes people A LOT more courageous than they normally are
That guy in the Accord probably got a cell phone call or was trying to fiddle around with something in his car. Or maybe he was playing with his voice activated navigation system. The only solution to minimize the stress is to be smarter than the other guy, ALWAYS pay attention to what you're doing and just do the right thing.

You forgot one.
5. They don't understand what they are doing. People follow way too close at hyw. speed. They don't understand the physics of trying to stop. They don't understand how an RX8 is going to outbrake them. They also don't seem to remember what happened last time they followed too close just a few minutes earlier when traffic stopped quickly. Stupid, Stupid, Stupid.

You're damn straight it's me against an entire country of terrible drivers! I still haven't been proven wrong on that one.
Actually I have noticed one trend. People seem to be crazier the farther you go south. Can't figure that one out. When I was in Nebraska and Iowa, everyone was actually pretty good. As I came south through Kansas and Oklahoma, the number of bad and inconsiderate drivers slowly went up. Got to Dallas and they were getting pretty bad. Got home, yep there they all are.
RX Renesis 10-29-2005, 07:23 PM yes i hate lane hoggers on the left lane.... if ur driving the speed limit use the right lane and follow traffic on the right lane... not the left lane...
i'm fine with people doing stupid things as long as it doesn't happen to me... but 1 thing i'm don't tolerate is when people driving in heavy rain yet they tail gate me... every time i slow down i keep my eye on the rear view mirrow watching if they will rear end me or not... thats the only thing i hate...
DarkBrew 10-29-2005, 07:30 PM 6.) Get your slow ass in the right lane if I'm following too close ;)
Hey! I didn't say which lane I was in, did I?
Most of the time I am trapped behind some other traffic when some idiot is climbing up my ass as if it will make the guys in front of me speed up! I wish it would work!
I share your frustration with people blocking the fast lane.
automaton 10-30-2005, 03:00 AM I hate the way everyone seems to completely ignore "right of way".
I realize that everyone else is obviously more important than me, or at least doing something far more important than anything I could possibly be doing (yes, that was intarweb sarcasm), but at least have the curtesy to observe the written laws to some degree.
Examples:
Coming up to a point where 2 lanes merge into one, multiple signs posted that clearly state that the left (or right, as the case may be, in a given situation) must merge to the right. evidently this means that I, who paid attentuion to the road signs and already merged right, must now come to a nearly complete stop to allow the moron in the SUV, that has floored it up the hill to get as close as possible to the "front" of the line, I might add, to merge into the space I currently occupy (and more often than not, there is nobody behind me to prevent said SUV from just merging where he was moments earlier). *anger*
Or, just as fun, when you get to a 4 way stop and the guy that gets there last decides he must attempt to "t-bone" you because you dared to go when it was your turn instead of realizing that he only intended to slow to 5 mph instead of achieving a full stop... that's neat.
My father taught me from the start to always "drive for the other guy". I.E. don't count on the fool in the other car to do the right thing. Try to be prepared for any thickheaded move he may chose to make.
kiker14 10-30-2005, 10:16 AM Actually I have noticed one trend. People seem to be crazier the farther you go south.
not sure if i completly agree with that statement... i live in the washington, d.c. area and i swear every day there are at least 4-5 people out there with the specific intent of killing me. usually driving an SUV, and usually on their cell phones.
My dad has driven motorcycles since he was about 12 (and dumped every one he ever owned at some point, which is why he will stop paying for my college if i get one) and always told me to drive as if you were driving a motorcycle, meaning that nobody can see or hear you at all.
the important thing is to NOT think you are a "better driver" than other people (even if you are) but just remember that NOBODY on the road can see you at all... give them space, slow down, don't tailgate, don't get angry, etc. etc. etc.
if you want to drive agressive/wreckless, there are plenty of places that you can ::legally:: take your car and beat the heck out of it.
that's just my $.02
therm8 10-30-2005, 10:45 AM Or, just as fun, when you get to a 4 way stop and the guy that gets there last decides he must attempt to "t-bone" you because you dared to go when it was your turn instead of realizing that he only intended to slow to 5 mph instead of achieving a full stop... that's neat.
I'm so sick of this myself. In fact yesterday, some idiot of a woman, who was the 5th person to get to the 4-way stop, decided she didn't have to wait for me to go when it was my turn. Problem was, I was already in the intersection. She came within inches (maybe 3 of them) of t-boning me. Since that was the 3rd time last week this happened to me at that particular intersection, I stopped right in the middle of it, made a show of checking out my car, and went over and explained very politely to this bozo that she was the 5th person in line and that right of way rules are there to keep people from crashing into each other. When she disregards these rules, the whole system gets f'd up. As mad as I was, I think I kept my cool fairly well.
EyeBall Fixer...(o)(x) 10-30-2005, 11:23 AM I hate the way everyone seems to completely ignore "right of way".
Speaking of "right of way"....
On my way to work, there is a "new Round-A-Bout" that's extremely busy.
The "Blue-Hairs" (Senior Citizens on their way to the the hospital)
are either stopped at the yield sign until there are no vehicles in sight
or they stop on the Round-A-Bout to allow yielding traffic to merge.
The High School students whom think they are "indestructible" don't yield
for anyone. Everyday one of them hop the curb and crash because they're
driving much too fast for their skill level or the handling ability of their vehicle.
I wish the city would have kept the 2 way stop signs or had installed lights.
Some people just don't understand the concept of "yielding"..
Everyday I fear my "cursed" Silver 8 will end up a target for one of these people..
Krankor 10-30-2005, 02:12 PM By the way, 4-way-stops are among the worst ideas anyone ever had.
Davey's RX-8 10-30-2005, 03:20 PM Nubo, that drives me nuts too. That's almost as bad as the people who get on the elevator to move one floor.
Cattywampus 10-30-2005, 03:34 PM Just do what I do. Turn on the red and blue and give them a ticket. It's that easy. But then they come on here and bitch how they didnt deserve the ticket.

Happens to me all the time. The world is full of ignoramuses 1/2 my age.
I just indicate I wanna race, start revving the engine, grip the top of my wheel with both arms, reach down like I'm turning on a nitrous valve, bob my head forward several times ... what ever I can to psych them up.
And when the light turns green ...... I just sit there and watch them tear off like little children. One time I got to watch a cop come off a side street and pull them over. :icon_droo
And a little toot of the horn as I drove by. :flipoff:
Very satisfying.

Automotive design of the past twenty years is headed in the wrong direction to solve those problems. While we've been busy making better airbags we've ignore a much simpler and more obvious alternative -- A 9-inch, sharpened stainless steel spike in the center of the steering wheel. I think some of these maroons would maybe think twice. "Yeah, Superman. Act the fool now!"

Photic 10-31-2005, 11:58 AM I was in traffic going to the football game yesterday. I needed to get over, and I had my blinker on, one person didn't let me though, and then the guy behind him sped up to not let me in. I felt like a prick but I called his bluff and I just started moving in, he yielded and I got in, I also noticed in my rear view that he was throwing a fit about it.
If someone has a blinker on, I look at merging like a zipper. If you're in the standard lane and people are coming in, let 1 person in front of you, then the person behind you should let 1 person in as well. I think it's courteous.
I guess I should move to Houston so you're not the only good driver on the road, RG, cause I know I'm the only one here (except Photic, of course). No, wait.......the humidity would drive me into an extreme fit of bitchiness, and I would become one of "them". Never mind!
Seriously, courtesy is one of the issues I'm having with most other drivers. It's become more evident to me since I drive in rush-hour traffic AND because San Diego is becoming so crowded. It seems to have gotten worse since I got the 8. It's as if people think, "oh, she is NOT going to hurt her pretty little car, so she'll just have to wait for me." I always have fleeting thoughts of that Kathy Bates line from "Fried Green Tomatoes" when she says, "Face it - I'm older and I have more insurance."

People do that alot on the subway. Most of the time, it's tourists. It's basically a size/crowd wins situation. Usually, I'm at an advantage since I have a huge crowd of people behind me also wanting to get off, so I'm used as the battering ram. When I'm not, I turn to the side and squeak through.
Once though, it was me and my crowd versus an enormous black guy. Seriously, he was huge and he had his eye on the goal. No one could push him out of the way. It was pretty crazy. It'd be a lot easier if he just let us get off first, but whatever he's an asshole. I was tempted to give him a hammerfist to the nose to make him back up, but I doubt I could have reached that high...

hAHAHAHAHahah!! I was complaining about the exact same thing yesterday. I got to the bottom floor of my apt. building. Door opens, but before I could get out, this overly large, fat-obese pig of a lady and her equally fat 7 year old daughter forced their way in, squishing me against the wall. What a way to teach your daughter manners. Ontop of that, they were gulping down McDonald burgers and talking with their mouths full. gross.
So what did I do? Before I stepped out, I quickly ran my fingers over all the buttons. They lived on the sixth floor. Two of them are garage floors...so they had to stop for all 8. :shocking: :cwm27: :icon_tup:
icyur2 10-31-2005, 01:03 PM Too bad it is illegal to point your gun at the offender...love to make em piss in their pants!! One too many times, if I had one, I would love to do just that. Not only are they endangering my infant and wife when I'm driving, but doing so when there is no need. How much faster do you need to go when you see traffic in front of you is bottlenecked?? Keep in mind that at one point, I was going 70mph, traffic was heavy in front, and had this prick tailgate me (2 ft. away from bumper - hello?? physics anyone??!!!), and I couldn't turn to the right lane unless I really sped up to pass another vehicle in the lane!! After the prick pass me, he did the same shit to the other vehicle..and you wonder how the hell someone can get into an accident in a freeway that has so much room, you can squeeze 2 civics on the same lane!!! Of course, cops are never there to witness this, so the point is mute..tailgating is a crime in my state..like RotaryGod said, why? It is pointless to endanger someone because you want to be in front, especially when traffic is in that condition. Now, if traffic was clear and I was in the left lane and someone did that, yes, I deserve it..but, come on!! Suffice to say, LOTS of dumn ass drivers out there that need to be jailed or ticketed!!!
Man I hear ya rotarygod. Whenever I'm in Texas for business I can't believe how terrible the drivers are. Nobody ever uses turn signals. Nobody ever shoulder checks. One thing I like is that everyone typically drives at a fast pace, but that's about the only positive thing I've noticed.
I'm always too scared to do anything about people who cut me off, tailgate, etc. when I'm there because of all the damn guns.
icyur2 10-31-2005, 02:54 PM Point of the matter is, when someone tailgate me like that, they are ENDANGERING my life, as well as my son's and wife! That is in itself is an act of aggression..there is NO excuse to do that. That is why we have laws in place! Unfortunately, not all of these bastards are caught while doing the act, so they are running rampant.
As for people who have guns down here in the U.S., don't worry about us law-abiding citizens. We have too much to lose to do something as stupid as point a gun at a traffic offender. Worry about those druggies or criminals who can get them anyways through the black market!! So, lets not start about how "guns" are evil...

I don't think it's a matter of North and South. I think it gets worse the closer you get to any coast since the population density gets thicker... It's pretty bad here in Mass on the east coast...

Its not just courtesy. Its efficient. Maybe in 20 years or so, we all will have auto (AI)drive on our cars. And so even if there is traffic we can just sleep in our cars. but with autodirve there probably wouldn't be any heavy traffic. Or maybe all the idiotic drivers will finally realize their stupidity and kill themselves. :dunno:
Luftwaffle 11-01-2005, 02:46 PM AI? Where's the fun in that?
