So I got a new video card, ATI Radeon x700 PRO for $150, didn't go all out because for $150 it was fine. What do you guys have?

And Uhhh, let me take advantage of these new smileys:

I'm running dual 256MB PCI-Express x16 NVIDIA GeForce 7800 GTX KO cards. Yes, I think it is serious overkill, and I doubt my computer will benefit much from the SLI, but I am an enthusiast when it comes to building computers.

BFG nVidia 6800 OC AGP 8X 128MB (with 16 pipes unlocked by Riva Turner) $170

I'll never afford (or am I willing to pay) the price of the Ultra High end cards. So, I stick to the mid-grade High end cards.

My other PC has a ATI 8500 which I’m still a proud owner of…it did and does it’s job without a hiccup.

My building style...heck, pretty much everything...is...

ATI X800XL

We may see a dramatic change in the way video cards are used in the next few years as they're not really video cards anymore. They're graphics processing units with exceptionally fast floating point capability. In fact, there've been studies done that show offloading a processor's floating point operations to a video card caused extreme speedup in floating point operation.
The FPU's in a graphics card are so much more specialized when it comes to doing operations like FFT that they can do it several hundred times faster than your CPU.
We may see down the road that that overkill card could end up doing a bit more than it does now.

I had a few minor glitches with Elightenment(E16) but managed to get them all worked out over time.. I'm now looking at ver.E17 which they added a lot of goodies to. It took me awhile to get it all set-up the way I wanted but the end product was well worth the time. Good luck with Red Hat! I'll never go back to Windows.

Sorry friend...the backup stuff I have is really old.

From your card you can upgrade to a much stronger card for less than $85 bucks. I'm not sure if you have been away from the computer world...but I just sold my nVidia 5800 for $80 on eBay. The 5800 is WAY better than your card and wont break the bank.

It's doable...just takes effort and a little money.

Ok, I overclocked my video card (ati radeon x700 pro agp) and here are the results:

Stock: 425 core/432 memory

Overclocked: 445 core/460 memory

It crashed yesterday night after hours of CS:S, so I dropped down the core to 440 and I hope it'll stay stable at that. The memory can go all the way to 500, so I'll be making it higher.

I got stock cooling.

i think it will be on the A64 x2 CPUs. AMD recently said that they will be dropping their prices on processors. maybe the x1800XTs ATI will be hard launched instead of paper launched. for the midrange market, i think the x800XLs and 6800GTs will drop in price a little more. the NDA is supposed to break on the 512Mb version of the 7800GTX card. leaked info says that they will go for about $650 (USD) MRSP price.

that's what i think at least.

i never finished doom3, lol. i ended up reformatting my machine (actually, i do it quite often) and i got too lazy to reinstall doom3, so i never finished the game =\.

i just got quake 4, but from what i hear, my ATI card will suffer. Since quake 4 is a "way it's meant to be played" game, if i still had my old 6800GT, it wouldn't be as bad to play quake 4 on it as it would be on my ATI card. i don't like to play games at anything less than 1600x1200 @75Hz running 4x/8x AA/AF, so this will probably be a first for me playing at lower specs
