View Full Version : Nordic Green
Erik's8 07-25-2003, 01:15 PM Guys,
What do you think of the nordic green? What is it like in person? Do you have pics? I am about to order my RX8 but have not been able to pick between Ti and green...
Erik
Haris 07-25-2003, 01:34 PM I've seen titanium in person, and to be honest, it sux. It's just too dark and hides many lines of the RX8. Red, blue, yellow, and silver are best colors. Green is probably better than titanium too. In RX8 brochure, the green is a bit dark too.
Elara 07-25-2003, 01:40 PM The green is very nice in person. Looks black, but in direct sun, it has green sparkles and undertones, with a bit of blue and purple. I should have taken my camera with me when I went to the dealer and drove a nordic green last week. I'll post pics when it does get here. I doubt you'd be dissappointed- I was very pleased with it.
The only problem with the green is going to be the same as the black- it's going to show every bit of dirt, and need to be cleaned on a regular basis.
I like the titanium too, but it's a little too drab for me- there was a titanium next to the green, and I just didn't like it as well. However, titanium with the red inserts would probably look very nice, if you like the titanium.
Jsuzuki 07-25-2003, 02:15 PM Nordic Green in Japan (http://www.rx8forum.com/showthread.php?s=&postid=66873#post66873). I changed my order from Gray to Green after I saw it person. In this picture it looks almost blue. I thought it was purple when I fist saw it.
DisneyDestroyer 07-25-2003, 03:07 PM Yeah, the LoJack tech marked my car as blue in the LoJack system, I had to call to change it. lol!
Erik's8 07-25-2003, 03:25 PM Thanks All!
So why is that green sounds to be such a great color and hardly anybody chooses it? I think I am gonna go green! Of course, then I will have to wash it regularly which I would do anyway. I wonder how easily can it be color matched in case it need be, though...

Elara, have you ever seen Mercedes' "Black Opal" color? They used to use it on SLK's and some C-class vehicles, but now I think they only use it on M-class. It sounds a lot like what you described.

DRAB?!?! Them's fightin' words! :D I'm getting Titanium with red/black upholstery, I think it will be very sharp looking and rather unique.

Erik
The reason some people didn't choose it (pre-order) was because people did not know what that color truely looked like. There were no pre-production models, no studio pictures, no live pictures, just paint chips. Even the paint chip didn't give a true representation of the color. People didn't want to take a chance.
Now that it is out, many people see that it is a great color. In fact, all the colors look great on the RX-8. Anyway, I think you'll see an increase of Nordic Green sales when "potential buyers" see the car in "person" and see "live" pictures.

I've gotten nothing but positive comments on the Titanium - everyone loves the color! I can't agree that it's too dark - that was my fear when I ordered it. It is really much lighter than the titanium on a Z3 for instance. Here in Texas, I decided against another dark car. I came to loathe my black RX-7 after the A/C quit working!
Heven't seen the green, so I can't help you there. The Titanium is beautiful, looking bluish at some angles and silver/grey at others. It is by no means dark. Good luck with your choice.
ReX-8 07-25-2003, 06:07 PM Is it the same Green as the one available for the RX-7 (FD)? Cuz there's a guy at my office is driving a Green RX-7, and it looks not too bad. It has a British car kinda feel. And it has tan interior, which matches so well.
Fat Morbo 07-25-2003, 06:09 PM I was thinking that Nordic Green and Black/Brown leather would be a very classy color combo, but I wanna go with a lighter colored car to hide the dirt factor.
I picked up my Nordic Green last Friday and I can tell you no picture yet has been able to do it justice. Like Elara said, the mica paint has flakes of blue and purple which makes it change color with the light. In sunlight can look crayola "blue green" or blue, then in other shades of light it may look black, a gun metal grey, or a dark beautiful green. I washed it for the first time last night after a week and 700 miles which isn't bad at all considering it wasn't that dirty. You won't be disappointed with Nordic Green!

No, I haven't seen it- sounds great though. I'll see if I can track down a picture to compare.
And I didn't mean to insult titanium owners ! My first choice was titanium with the black/red inserts, but after I saw the titanium at Detroit, and the paint chip of the NG, I decided to take my chances on the green. The titanium is still beautiful though!
Erik's8 07-29-2003, 02:18 PM Thanks guys for all the comments on the green color!
Just one question: who with a green 8 lives the closest to the Minneapolis area? I want to place my order and can't find a green 8 in Minneapolis to see if that is the color I really want.
If you live within a reasonable driving distance and are willing to show your green 8 I would definitely drive to your place and check your car out!
Anybody?
Erik
Boozehound 07-29-2003, 03:54 PM There's always red....
It's no coincidence it's the iconic color Mazda uses in all their ads, not to mention that sports cars (with the exception of british cars & early Corvettes) should be red. And the color will force you to keep from speeding... (or else you'll contribute healthy sums to local law enforcement coffers)
Erik's8 08-04-2003, 12:56 PM I'm still in the struggling phase as to which color to choose: Nordic Green or something else. And that's because I have seen all colors but the green so far... Has any one of you guys seen one in person? Of course, there is the three of you who already drive green 8's according to the Color Poll thread. I really need help with this decision! Could you guys please post a few pics of the green... please!!!
Thanks a lot,
Erik
med_mx6 08-04-2003, 02:50 PM is anyone else getting the feeling that nordic green is going to be stereotyped as the girl color???
Erik's8 08-04-2003, 02:52 PM Why do you think so?

"Girl color" is fine... If you want a chick magnet. Of course if you want a dude magnet, one should get a "guy color". Everyone called my Miata a chick car... Attracted quite a few chicks. :D

Probably because 2 of the 8 or so girls on here ordered it. Obviously, that makes it a "girl color". Should make black or blue a "girl color" too, because at least one of each was also ordered by some of the female members here.
1.3 liter 08-05-2003, 02:14 PM Do I like dark colors? Do I like light colors? Do I like medium colors? Am I a fanatic about keeping my car clean? or do I seldom clean it? These questions will determine what car color you will get. The Nordic green is very elusive. Before the 8 hit the streets, there were pics. of either the yellow (so sick of it) or V. Red (almost as sick of it), but the green was very rare.
I got a chance to see the green in person last Saturday at my Mazda dealer. I strolled by the dealer at about 11:00 pm and saw what looked to be two black RX-8's. As I got closer, one was black indeed, but the other was Nordic Green. It looked black even under lights. As I walked around the car, you could tell it was this dark dark green and IT LOOKED GOOD!!!!. So the next day, I had to return to see how it looked under natural sunlight. The car still looked black at certain angles. Then it changed to dark green with the kinda goldish mica flakes, and then it looked bluish. It's the best color out of all the RX colors IMO. This particular one had the chaperal leather, and that made it look very classic British. I have been thinking about changing my order from tit. to green because I was thoroughly impressed. It's the most intriguing of the RX-8 colors, but the one that got the least attention. IT'S NOT EASY BEING GREEN
Erik's8 08-05-2003, 02:22 PM 1.3 liter,
Thanks for the very thorough description! The fact that it has not been getting a lot of attention makes it even more appealing.
Erik
By far, the green has to be seen in person to actually know how it looks. It really does look great close up. Probably why there really aren't any photos of that color because it probably does represent closer to black. But in person, the metal flake really stands out and looks very sharp on the body.
MrWolf 08-05-2003, 04:20 PM I'm a guy, and I ordered Nordic Green.
I prefer to own green cars... I just really really like green.
I'm glad you liked the appearance of the Green + black/chaparral leather, since that's what I ordered... the black leather was kinda boring to me, not enough contrast, while the black cloth had a nice contrast, but I wanted leather for this car.
At this point, I'd consider blue also... my delivery date is late August/early September... it's hard to wait.

well, the other way to look at it is, the first few green RX-8s were owned by women. don't get me wrong, i love the green too, in fact i am going to choose between the black or the green myself, unless white makes a debut next year. i didn't mean to cause a stir about green being girlie or anything. i guess i was 1) just simply stating a feeling that more green cars were owned by women than by men, and 2) concerned for myself because I am considering the nordic green (with the chapparel leather) myself. anyway... I like the green a "long" time ago... (http://www.rx8forum.com/showthread.php?s=&postid=42991#post42991)
Erik, i know pictures don't do the color justice, but do you have pics? Let's see that bad boy!
Erik's8 08-08-2003, 09:18 AM Here we go, I have two pictures of the green:
Erik's8 08-08-2003, 09:18 AM The other one:
Rudenauer 08-08-2003, 09:33 AM I saw one in the storage area of Galpin Mazda a couple of days ago. I'll just weigh in and say that although the paint is beautiful, I think it's not right for the 8...a little too dark like the poster above said.
But, the reason you haven't seen many around is that only one in twenty RX8s are currently painted this color.
So, get 'em while they're hot!!
Erik's8 08-08-2003, 09:37 AM Yeah, but black is even darker, isn't it? Or it's ok because it's a classic sports car color? Hard to decide...

(in a small voice) right, and of those, how many green ones are owned by women? :sheepish grin:
anyway, erik, thanks for the pics... any interior ones??? :D i wanna see the chapperal ...
i really like the green, cuz it's looks black but isn't. unfortunately, it still means it'll show dirt like black does. Personally, i find the darker colors even better because I for one am not in "total" love (yet?) with all the lines of the '8.
Erik's8 08-08-2003, 01:16 PM I only have one pic of the chapparal leather. It's not in a green car, though.
RX8 Seller 08-08-2003, 05:49 PM Here is another shot of a Green one.
RX8 Seller 08-08-2003, 05:50 PM And one more with the yellow as well
IMO, this picture does this color no justice!! It is a super color!!
Elara 08-08-2003, 06:09 PM I just took some (in the rain) of the green next to the black, and then some of the green in slightly better light, and the interior. It really looks great on the car, and I am very glad that's what I decided on. I'll post the pictures later this evening.
RockyMts 08-08-2003, 10:14 PM I saw a Nordic Green RX-8 today at a dealership. I thought it was black until I got closer. It was nice, although not really my taste. They also had a Titanium parked next to a Silver. Personally, of those two I'd take the Titanium; it's a richer shade that shows off the shape of the car better, IMO. Of all the colors I like blue the best, although I'll probably buy a red one, to get the two-tone interior.
Elara 08-08-2003, 10:23 PM If you want to see the pictures I took tonight (I'll get more tomorrow when I pick up the car) go here (http://www.elysianplains.com/elaras8/) . I tooka few of the green next to the black in the rain, and some of the green by itself inside.

Elara,
Congrats on your new ride. I viewed your pics with the appearance package and spoiler. Looks good with the green also. I'm sure you're glad that those options made it when your order got amended. I hope you are not disappointed with those options. I definately was not disappointed with mine.

VERY NICE! Nordic Green is a superior colour and suits the car amazingly well. Looks like you'd have been better off taking delivery of that boat in the car park though... ;)

Tell me about it. The stupid thing was that it didn't rain at ALL yesterday until 15 minutes before I went to see it. And then it stopped 15 minutes after we left.

I am SO glad we did- after looking at mine and then the others, none of which had any appearance stuff except for rotary packages, mine looks so much more finished(thought they all look beautiful anyway). I cannot WAIT to pick it up this afternoon!
Erik's8 08-12-2003, 12:51 PM Elara,
Just five minutes after having seen your green 8 pics my dealer called that a green 8 had just landed. I rushed to the dealership and finally saw the 1st Nordic Green RX8 ever. It is simply the most amazing color of all! I finalized my order: it is going to be green with chapparal/black interior. Thanks for the pics again!
Erik
Elara 08-12-2003, 03:06 PM Gratz Erik! I can't wait to see your pictures when it gets here. Told you it was a great color- pictures really don't do it justice, no matter how many you take.
:)

the green FD's are actually called montego blue. looks green but it's not. so with different names i doubt they are the same colour.
Elara 08-12-2003, 06:58 PM As we were driving home this evening, I saw my first 8 (other than mine) on the road. Guess what color it was? Yup. Nordic Green. I have to wonder if the guy driving was as suprised to see us as we were to see him. Unfortunately, he was going to opposite direction so we couldn't chase him down easily. Somehow, I don't think this is going to be the rarest color for much longer.
By the way, it's not the same color as Montego Blue. I thought they were at first too. MB has a lot more blue in it. They are about the same darkness, though, if that makes any sense.
grogiefrog 08-12-2003, 09:04 PM The green looks classy. Not at all just a chick color. It looks real nice. I want to see it before I make up my mind. Although after seeing the red last weekend... Wow! It pops!
grogiefrog 08-12-2003, 09:14 PM Elara... I took a look at your pictures. It is really pretty. It does look classy. My current car is real close in color, and I love it. I think it actually hides dirt reasonably well.
4seater 08-12-2003, 11:05 PM Again Elara, congrats on what I think is the best color for the 8!
After reading this thread, I've pretty much made up my mind. I have a Mariner Blue '91 Miata and can't imagine having 2 blues. If I wanted to be noticed by the highway patrol, I'd get yellow. The yellow is definitely the sporties IMHO for the 8, especially with an all black interior.
Erik's8 08-13-2003, 10:49 AM Hey All,
I had finally made up my mind as to what color to pick: It's going to be Nordic Green with Black/Chapparal interior.
My delaer was able to modify one of their orders to match my specifications and that car is scheduled to be built by Sept. 1.
Do you guys have an idea what kind of a deleivery date am I looking at? I know the initial orders took 6-8 weeks from build date to delivery. Just wondering wherher or not it has since decreased.
Erik
2004 RX8 Nordic Green, Black/Chapparal, GT, Nav, spoiler, rotary accents, rotary wheel centers, exhaust finishers.
MrWolf 08-13-2003, 01:26 PM Well, mine was built August 4th, and the dealership thinks they'll have it late August / early September.
Mazdausa Orders can only tell me the production date, though, so who knows.
So, Elara, did you get a clear bra for your NG? If you did, what do you think about it ? If not, are you planning to get one ? I'm hoping that someone has installed this on an NG and can tell me what it looks like before I commit to doing it to my not yet here (damn it) RX-8.
Elara 08-13-2003, 06:48 PM Originally posted by rex

No, not yet- Still not sure if I am or not. The little clear protector thing on the back fenders looks a little odd to me, and if it shows up like that, I don't know if I want the entire bra on it.
We've got a lot of other stuff we want to get first, anyway- lojack, tint, fender strakes, to start.
Elara, my dealer has a NG which is getting the clear bra treatment next week, so I'm going to go over and check it out in person. Like you, I want to see what it would look like first before committing to it.
Where I live they like to use the el cheapo "spray tar on the road and drop rocks on it" method of road resurfacing. Cheap for the town, expensive for the people who live there (paint chips, broken windshields, tar removal etc.) So, that's why I'm looking into this option.
Gotta agree with you on those fender strakes. Did you see the X-Men 2 car with the strakes in the "hey those are the oil coolers" slot ? Of course that car was missing the fog lights.
Anyway, the strakes will be the first part of my car to arrive. Yeah, I'm building my car one piece at a time, accessories on up ;-)
mazdabob 08-14-2003, 02:51 PM The Nordic Green is not what I expected. I was thinking it would be more like a forest green. However, it's different than any greens that I've seen, and I kinda like it. :D
4seater 08-15-2003, 01:40 AM Thanks for the pic post Mazdabob! NG looks fantastic. This pic really demontrates the true color since you have several natural "greens" in the background to compare. Also the way the sun is reflecting off the mica in the paint looks awesome! I love how the 8's colors look dark in the twilight and are bright and reflective in the sun (VRed, NG, WBlue, Tit), Mazda did this right! Great choice! - even though not what you expected, I'm sure your deligthed! You must enjoy green cars having has a '91 BRG Miata - possibly the best automotive shade of green of all time. I'm sold on NG!!
I notice you got the splash guards too! I think this is a good move - I was considering them also. Should help the NG look cleaner longer. Now that I see how look as opposed to the aero kit, I think I'm sold on these too.
How can anyone be concerned about dyno #'s and 0-60 times after seeing the visual impact of the car.
mazdabob 08-15-2003, 02:42 AM Indeed I do like green cars. I've had several. This color is really sparkly in bright sunlight. And it is unique - it is unlike any others that I've seen. Some people have mentioned the RX-7 Montego, but that was bluer. Also, the mudguards blend in nicely - not too obvious.
