Went in and talked to Wayne of Freeman mazda in irving, and he told me that the RX8's have "The latest" M flash that solves the problem about flooding.

I thought the latest flash was "R"?

So my question is, should I tell them that if im going to buy the car they need to flash to to the latest "R" version or no deal?

Or should I just wait a bit and go back after a while to get it?

buy the car, then take it in for service to make sure that the 2 recalls have been performed. the one is for under car heat, and will include taking it to the latest flash. the other is for ball joing problems, and may or may not be applicable to your car

if you get a 2005 the ball joint recall will not apply, it was only for a certain batch of '04 RX-8s

I suggest you ask about the R flash (along with the recalls) and see that it is updated in your car before you take delivery.

..But if they cannot update it on the spot, just come back another day and get it done. It really isn't a big deal.

Are you buying new or used?

If it's used be careful. I looked at some used ones in Irvine with low miles and low price. They were mostly factory cars from the Mazda Irvine Corp. Just ask if its a factory car or not. If it is, I wouldn't buy it. They are company rental cars.

If you are buying a new 2005, Mazda dealers were required to perform the latest heat shield recall, which includes the latest flash. I believe it's called "E" for the 2005s, which is the same as "R" for the '04s (unless I'm getting them confused with the AT vs. MT).

Regardless, if buy new you should have no worries. And if you're buying used, it's a simple matter of having the service department take care of it under warranty.

be careful with used 8's there is a reason why nobody is driving them....would you give up an 8 that early if it was driving properly? ive had mine for almost 2 months, it is brnad new and ive had pretty much no problems at all. so get a NEW ONE.

i have a used 8 and its been great. i've had it for over 6 months.

I'm on the "E" flash. As for the recalls, I wouldn't agree to sign anything until your sure all applicable recalls and repairs have been done. Demand documentation and then and only then take delivery of the car. Because my dealer neglected to put the recall sticker on the vehicle and didn't include all repair info on my receipt, I called MNAO a few weeks later to confirm that all recalls were performed. All you need to do is give them your VIN. I would think by now most dealers should have performed the recall work on all 8's on their lots both '04's and '05's. Just my .02 :D
