Has anyone had trouble with the rotors warping in less then two years? :)

Nope, mine haven't been warped, but they're definitely rusty!

I've had my front rotors replaced due to warping. I think the tech that installed the non-squeal brake pads didn't properly tighten things, leading to the rotors getting loose. This resulted in a strange clicking and warbling sound whenever I braked. Rotors were found to be warped, and got replaced.

Mine were slightly warped at 21k miles, they machined them down a little bit and everything is much better. Mine was handled under warranty.

One of my front rotors was warped around 14k miles. I should have had the shop replace it but I found it more convenient to take them off and have a friend turn them. The funny thing is when I first saw the size of the rotors on the 8 I told my wife she couldn't warp them. lol

I encountered uneven braking after about 7,500 miles. Mazda turned all four rotors under warranty which fixed the problem. However they were at a loss as to what the cause was.

After doing some research, I went through the nerve racking process of bedding the brakes/rotors. I have 15K on the car now and braking is still perfect.

There is a difference between warped rotors and brakes that squeek. The squeeking is usually caused by the pads having a slight glazing to them from where they have been applied lightly to the rotor. Go out and take a couple hard slow downs and then ride for a little bit to let them cool, the squeeking should go away for a little while till you glaze the pads over again.

Rotors warping you will notice, at least in my experience, the car will shimmy, or feel like it is lunging when you are slowing down. The steering wheel didn't shake or anything, just the whole car felt like it was surging as it slowed with the brakes applied. Hope this helps.

Check out the service bulletin at the link below and if your VIN is in the range cited, take a printout of the SB to your dealer. BTW, the squeal has little or no affect on braking efficiency, so technically the dealer is correct. But Mazda believes it is a problem nonetheless and has decided to replace the offending pads (I believe on a one-time basis). However, don't be surprised if the squeal returns in time.

All four machined once, no fix, then replaced both front rotors: problem solved.
The front ones had deep grooves after only 2000km. Only 9000km on car now with way tooooo many warranty items.

My dealer won't do anything about my warped rotors on my RX-8 Automatic. It has the smaller rotors, is not driven in the winter, nor is it driven hard at all. At 12,000 KM (about 8K miles) they're warped, but it's 2 years old, and Mazda says no. :mad:

Has anyone had them repaired AFTER the first 12 months?

If that dealer cared about customer service, they would have turned your rotors. The cost to them to do that is minimal. Take the car to another dealer and see what they will do or contact the Mazda North America or the district rep and tell them about your problem.

It's a known problem. That's why they made the 2005 brakes larger.

The good news is this only happens if you push the car to the limits. Like n the track.

Larger or THICKER?

For those with warped rotors who DON'T track their cars....

Do you drive in hilly areas a lot? When going downhill, do your ride your brake pedal to maintain a certain speed? I'm talking about using your brake pedal for loooonnnng stretches as you're going downhill.

I can't believe how many people I see doing this on a daily basis! With a manual trans, just shift into a lower gear, for pete's sake! Even with an automatic trans, you can downshift and let engine braking help you maintain a safe speed. Every day I drive hilly roads there will be someone in front of me who rides his/her brakes all the way down the freakin' hill when I don't have to touch mine at all. Their brakes must be hot enough to melt iron by the time they get to the bottom.

Oh boy, here we go. Be prepared for the rants about how that will destroy the engine, the clutch, the transmission, yada, yada, yada. :nono:

the #1 cause of warped rotors is mistorqued lug nuts, not heat
