here are the suggestions i received for the group name... im also putting an area for a write-in name in case someone has a good idea (i think i can add it later, but im not sure)

per someones suggestion at the last meet, i made the voting public in case other non-chicago people vote and we need to know who voted for what

whaddya think, keep this up for a week? once we decide we can have polak make us some decals or sumpin :D

Besides the acronym for the group name you should be thinking how it can be worked into a logo, as in the obvious of using the rotor shape for the letter "O". You might have a problem at some point with using the cookie (picture or name) in a visual logo if it gets published anywhere.

I like ROTEC actually. (Rotary Enthusiasts of Chicago). It has a nice ring to it.
I also like CHIROC Chicago Rotary Owners Club but it sounds more like the name of a radio station or something.

Chicago 8s is OK but it is too bland and too generic. What are we, lucky 8s or something?

OREO is definitely not cool with me. Maybe we should permanently ban anyone who voted for that name. :p

And should people that haven't been to a meet get a vote?

Maybe this voting thing isn't so good. Maybe we should do like a Survivor style vote where we start with a list and each week we vote a name off the list until we get down to a good choice...

And further more, perhaps an internet vote is not a good idea. Maybe we should do a live vote at a meet, perhaps a live vote with several rounds where we match 2 names against each other and hammer it out.

Actually, I think a name is more important that you realize. For example, you just said you wouldn't put an OREO decal on your car. See the name is important. :p

I think whatever we name ourselves, for better or worse, it should be by a majority vote (i.e. more than 50% of the club participants) that way we get a name that most of the people like. For example, what if Chicao 8s wins because 5 out of 15 people vote for it. That would kinda suck for the 10 people that wanted something else.

yes, but shouldn't the name reflect the wishes of at least half of the people? If people are going to be unhappy, wouldn't it be best if it were less than half the people that were unhappy?

And if you organizing gets too tough, you should dump the email list. If people are too lazy to check out the meet thread, then they aren't going to be motivated to come to a meet IMHO.
