View Full Version : saab 9-2x
Peter Sawko 09-30-2005, 03:13 PM The Saab 9-2x just walked away from my rx8 6mt!
We weren't actually stop light dragging but wow he just shot past me from a stop light. I usually accelerate sharply from a light and he just kept up amd then shot past me.
The spec's are 227 hp, 217 fp torque and 3179 lbs weight. Guess the Eights low torque will handicap you every time.
Anyone else with experience with the Saab?
It's the same as a turbo wrx and it should be close. Maybe he just got the better of you.
BlueEyes 09-30-2005, 03:22 PM It's a WRX in sweedish clothing. Pretty nice little cars if you ask me. I never been inside one, always wondered if it had a saab cupholder. Those things are cool
Bigdog6060 09-30-2005, 03:26 PM Yeah i seriously thought about one of thoese insted of the 8, but the 8 is much better looking.
Peter Sawko 09-30-2005, 03:30 PM Don't know about that... had my wife in the passenger seat.... probably made me think twice about pushing it too hard!
On the other hand there were some sick deals coming out at $22k for that car- cheaper than the same wrx. The only problem is the new model wrx came out and they might not produce be a new gen 9-2x also it is a wagon.
jtimbck2 09-30-2005, 03:32 PM I considered the 9-2X when I was shopping for an all wheel drive car, but it's butt-ugly in person (in my opinion). It's just an overpriced WRX ... a "Saabaru".
I went with the Volvo S40 T5 AWD instead (and yes, I know it shares a platform with the Mazda 3 and the European Ford Focus).

Actually, these things were a steal after GM first announced the $6000 rebate and the Hot Button Cash.
You could walk out with a "nice" (relatively speaking) Aero 5-speed for 20K and some change depending on the package. The Subaru dealers were pissed!
Then again, if you think the car is ugly, no price is worth it. ;)
Red Devil 09-30-2005, 03:54 PM They only come in Automatic don't they? No big deal, whether he really did take you or not.

The came in both

did that once, results were not pretty :o
Steiner 09-30-2005, 08:31 PM I think that new turbo Saab wagon looks pretty good and, with GM's employee pricing, can be had for significantly less than a comparably equipped Subaru WRX wagon. My sister might be buying one if she's not upside down on her Honda Accord loan.
dayvei214@mac.com 09-30-2005, 11:03 PM isn't that car also 4wd?
i test drove it. its boring. feels like saab took the old 93s shrunk it and slaped on the a new hood. but it think it was 4wd.
playdoh43 10-01-2005, 11:03 PM whao, Ikewrx still hasnt came in and talk smack yet.
crossbow 10-02-2005, 01:29 PM Ha these things were the steal of the century. Budget wrx. People were snagging 9-2x's for as low as 16k with Employee pricing deals and rebates. Utterly rediculous. Even if you had no negotation skills, ignored all the rebates, and just got the E-plan, it was still out the door for 19.4k.
Don't think the plans are still around for it, but for the price, its pretty much the best car on the road.

That's for the linear which is more like a RS wagon.
playdoh43 10-02-2005, 10:44 PM the wrx counterpart, Aero were sold at below 19.x k after bargaining in the past couple of months.
RotoRocket 10-02-2005, 10:52 PM The Sabaru seems like a quality piece, but I agree that it got hit with the fugly stick.
To those whom appreciate the looks of the vehicle, or for whom looks don't matter, it's all good.
But I couldn't look at that mug every morning and have good day. My RX-8 is beautiful.

It was REALLY tough to find them for that, I tried but inventory was low and most of them have options. But even low 20s, which is where most of the aeros would come in at, they were a steal.
crossbow 10-03-2005, 10:46 AM Ike,
Nope. They were getting 9-2x (227 bhp turbocharged AWD) for 16k out of the door. There were either some overlapping rebates and incentives right when the E plans first hit or some of these people negotatied the crap outta the sale. I do know the linear generally goes for around 16k, but I'm not talking about that in this instance.
I looked into buying one, it's not possible for the Aero. The linear has a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine with 165 hp and it was possible to get them for 16k, but NOT the Aero models. The employee pricing was not negotiable and even if they knocked another 1500 off the price from the discount and rebates they were offering you weren't getting anywhere near 16k. The Aero start at about 28k with destination charges and most of them were optioned out to be around 31k. GM is not going to discount a new car 12k+, even they're not that desperate.

Ike is right. I was doing the same shopping for both the Linear and Aero. I thought for the Linear itself $17-$19k was a great deal for a awd "luxury" car.
ucfracerx8 10-03-2005, 12:37 PM The 9-2X is just a Subaru WRX wagon clone, and not a very pretty one. Having had a WRX sedan prior to getting my RX8, I can say they launch very well off the line when done right, I could make Z06 Corvettes mad by taking them the first 60feet. That being said, if he got you off the line, you should have caught him, somewhere around 70mph when the AWD really starts to cut into performance, now if you did not stay with him that long, then don't worry, crap happens. Just remember that had you gotten to a twisty bit, you would have smoked him, as the RX8 flat out handles better. Also, any performance bit that fits the Subie, will fit the Saab, so he could have well over the 227 advertised in it. Jerk.

The RX-8 and the WRX trap about the same, so the Saab got the holeshot odds are the RX-8 isn't reeling him in til over 100mph. Though the Saab is a little slower and heavier than the WRX.

a lot of people payed sub 20k for Aeros, it got harder to find after a while under employee pricing, but plenty of people got it for below 20k

Tirminyl 10-03-2005, 01:25 PM I drove an auto 92-x Aero (turbo) and I wanted to commit suicide. I would really like to drive a manual version.
playdoh43 10-03-2005, 01:36 PM i never drove an Aero, but i drove my friends 05 wrx just 2 weeks ago, its almost the inverse of rx8. its got a decent pull down low, but weak up top, especially in 4th and 5th gears. the bang for the buck factor is pretty damn good if you dont mind the look. Id imagine Aero to be the same save for the better interior and sound proofing and what not over the wrx.

Not out the door they didn't, which is what was claimed in this thread.
playdoh43 10-03-2005, 05:53 PM ohh, in that case then naw, out the door 19k is too rediculous.
Backup7 10-03-2005, 11:34 PM 9-2x's are awesome cars. My dad picked one up in July for $19K.
They will be sold again for the 2006 model year with the 2.5L engine - however pricing will be back around $26k.
Saab will also be getting getting a version of the redesigned Imprezza, but this time the differences between the two cars are going to be more pronounced.

Tthe woman has an auto 92x. Seems like it takes forever for the turbo to spool in first. It definitely needs a 5sp auto.
