okay, now i got the letter in the mail a week ago and i still havent taken my car in to get it fixed. i plan on doing it as soon as possible, but the dealer is about a 2 hour drive and i go to school and work everyday. so i don't really have time to take it in. my next day off isn't for another week. is this okay to wait this long to get it fixed or do i need to just call in and go? i don't want to do any damage to my 8, i would cry if anything bad happened to it, but i just cant afford to call in. so please someone tell me if it's okay to wait another week or not....
this may be a stupid question, but i have no idea
thanks

Why can't you afford a phone call to the dealership to ask? Very confused here.

You can wait as long as you want.

I think he means to call in sick to work?

Wait as long as you want. I waited 4 years to have the front sway-bar links on my Ford Explorer replaced under recall.

A few weeks one way or the other probably won't hurt your car all that much, unless, of course, your driving style includes alot of high revving while not moving.

In CA, you have to get your recall done before you renew your registration ...

from what i was told, the front ball joint recall only affects a small number of 8's and is usually just a visual inspection. the thermal damage recall usually ends up being preventative installation of a heat shield, i can't recall anyone getting their e-brake/fuel tank replaced because of damage. i was in a similar situation and had to wait about a week and a half to get the recalls done after recieving my letters by mail.

Hey Merdy, don't worry, I'm in the same boat (my dealer is far from me and I work every day). But Mazda is supposed to get you a rental. I called my dealer to try to bring it in during the weekend when I don't have to work and he said to bring it on a weekday morning (before I go to work) and they'll give me a rental for the day. So call your dealer and ask if you can drop it off before you go to work (they usually open at 7 am) and say that they need to accomodate you and get you a rental.
