My dealer kendall of mazda decided not to call me today and sell my car from under me to the first person to pay $5000 over MSRP.
I drove down their not knowing my car was there and it was sitting in the showroom. They never called me at all and had no intentions to. The first thing that came out of his mouth was that he couldnt sell the car to me at MSRP even though I was promised MSRP in january. I know a promise means nothing in a dealership and I should have gotten it in writing but I didnt. So after about an hour of trying to get this car this guy would not budge.. He said the first 2 weeks this car is being sold his dealer will be selling them 5K over. Im not going to get ripped of. Luckily here are several other dealers in my area selling them at MSRP so I will take my business elsewere. Ill just have to wait. It doesnt suprise me this dealer would do this because its been a very painfull experience up to this point. I never recieved my preorder gift or any email from mazda. The only reason I knew I had a car coming was because I called corporate to complain about the level of customer service I was recieving. They gave my vin and confirmed my car for July delivery. Apparently im not the only person who got screwed by this dealer. They have had several complaints in the past for similiar situations. Mazda Corp. will hear from me tommorow for sure. If anybody is expecting a car from this dealer I would go somewhere else. Dont get ripped off by these a**holes.

Wow!, thats the reason dealers get that reputation....he probably would not have got that car in his showroom except for you ordering it.......

Same thing happened to me but not nearly so blatant, and they only wanted 2.4 kilobucks......

There had to be an agreed price some where. If the car was ordered in your name it would have been at MSRP through the system. If you didn't agree to paying more than it is implied that the price is MSRP as stated on the order and invoice. Not that I am a lawyer or anything remotely resembling one (luckily) :D

Even if you could get them to agree to your price for your car I would walk. "f" them and be patient.

I seriously doubt I would buy that car if they called me today and offered MSRP. I want this car but im not going to be treated like that. I told the manager he was trying to rip me off but he didnt care. Im going back Friday to speak with the general manager to tell him how I feel. It wont make any difference since the car will be sold way before that but im going anyways.

Marlin Mazda had two yesterday (Nordic Green GT /w i think black int and Black GT /w Red/Black int) for MSRP. I don't know how you didn't snap when they said that. Mine should be here tomorrow (Black Touring @ Marlin) and if something like that would happen after waiting this long I can honestly say that I would be spending a few nights in the big house. It goes without saying that the salesman would be spending a few nights in the hospital. Luckily I had a purchase order written up when I left my deposit and it clearly states MSRP. If I were you I would get in touch with a few of the local tv stations and see if they'll air you're story (Maybe WSVN's "Help Me Howard").

Gunther Mazda of Fort Lauderdale (might be a tiny bit far for you... doubt it though) seems pretty reputable. I went there yesterday just to check out an RX-8 in person. The saleswoman there wanted to put me on a call list and let me know when their 8's were coming in. I told her that as much as I'd love to buy the car, there's no way I can afford it for another year. She also went on to explain that they build their reputation on selling cars at no more than MSRP. Just another dealership besides Marlin worth checking out. If anyone has experiences with them, can they confirm that what this lady said is true?

Im going to be calling around when I get to work tomorrow to see if anything is available soon. I put a deposit down at Gunther mazda on a car that will be available in 10 to 15 days. This dealer so far has been a great experience. They actually return my phone calls..what a concept..Ive spent a lot of money at kendall rebuilding my 7 and i know a lot of people that buy from that dealer. This isnt over by far.

did you mean Potamkin Mazda on Bird Road. because i did see one there on friday. a yellow one that was priced 5000.00 over msrp. thats crazy!!! any ways like you said, Mazda claims this car to be a high production car and that it wont be long before dealers will be forced to be competitive to move this car. after the 3rd gen reputation, i dont think mazda can afford to have people waiting so long that can later change thier mind and then get into something else. makes no sense.

I went last night to Ocean Mazda in Doral, ready to buy an RX-8 or put a deposit on an incoming one. They had a black one outside, Touring with Auto. Inside they had a Silver Touring 6 Speed. None of the sales people there paid any attention to me at all. There were two sales people chit chatting outside, and I said "Excuse me, I'm interested in buying an RX-8." IGNORED. Didn't even look my way or acknowledge my presence...

I'm not sure why... I'm 29, although I look in my early 20's and was in my workout clothes since I was planning to head to the gym afterwards. Maybe they thought I couldn't afford the car or something.

I left and drove out of Ocean Mazda in my S2000; the same idiot that ignored before, saw me in my car and literally RAN after me and yelled out "Hold on!" I gave him the finger and took off...

My friend looked at and test drove an RX-8 at Marlin so I may head over there this weekend.

Mav, what gym do you go to? I work in the doral and I go to LA Fitness duing the workweek. Marlin called me right now and told me they are PDI'ing my car. I'm going to pick it up in a few. I'll be at the Gym tomorrow so you can check out the car.

Sucks, doesn't it?

I went by Bird Road (Potamkin) Mazda yesterday (7/22) afternoon and they had a yellow one (6 sp., GT) that had already been sold. I asked a sales person what the sticker price was and he said $30K. I don't think that's $5K over MSRP, unless he didn't include the mark-up, you know. Sharks...

I had the same experience as the guy with the S2000. The salesman said he'd be right back, I waited 10 minutes and when he came back he ignored me and started to chit-chat with a co-worker in front of my face. I drove away in my Audi S4 and he stared as I did.

I hate how those people can judge whether you can or cannot buy a car and base their decision of how much attention they will pay based on that judgement.

Best luck to the thread starter!

Superfan, I work out at the Doral LA FItness! I was there last night, my S2000 parked in front... But normally I'm in my daily driver, which is what I want to replace with the new RX-8.

Good luck with the delivery of your new ride.

My order was placed 10-29-02 for a red 6sp w leather and nav. They will not even talk to me. The sales mgr, Carlos, won't even return my call. I've got a line on another one. By the way, the GM doesn't seem to care either.
I've had 6 mazdas in last 12 years, 3 new from this dealer (was Zinn Mazda). Easy, mature customer, still get treated like crap.

Well, just in case anyone is still on the lookout and doesn't mind a drive. Eddie Accardi Mazda of Pompano (US1) has a Sunlight Silver (is that correct?) RX-8 with the appearance package and navigation system, 6spd for sale for $34xxx dollars. Besides that, I spoke with a salesperson there who informed me that the car has been there since Monday with no one buying it. It'll possibly be sold tommorrow, but not to me. They're also selling their cars at MSRP. There's supposed to be a yellow one that should've arrived on Monday, but they haven't gotten it yet and will be getting it any day now. They also expect a shipment of cars coming in next week. Just a heads up. :)

I took delivery today at around 3pm and I just got home. The car is awsome. Tito my salesman at Marlin Mazda had all the paperwork ready for me when I got there. I was in and out in 20 minutes. If any of you guys are shopping around for a car at MSRP in the Miami area, I recommend going to Marlin Mazda. Tito was on the ball all this time and was almost more excited about the car than I was. Mav, I might not go to the gym for the rest of the week but if you want to shoot the shyt, just PM me and I'll give you my number. I'll post some pictures tomorrow.

Thanx u guys. After going to Potamkin, Ocean and Kendall Mazda I ended up buying at Marlin Mazda. None of the dealers had any available and I was disappointed then I logged on here and saw the recommendations to go to Marlin. I went Sunday at 4PM and by 6PM I was driving away in my 2004 silver rx 8!!! Wow. I haven't seen any in Miami and everyone stops to look, people scream or beep at me as I drive. I love it

I decided to not pre-order the car andhave been tlaking with Eddie Acardi Mazda, Gunther and Marlin Mazda. So far to be honest I like the people at Gunther the best, but they are looking at 2 weeks delivery. MSRP. I got quoted by email a price tag of 28,300 for a 6 speed balck with sport package. Plus of course tax, tags, etc.

If they can give me a better delivery date this weekend, I will probably buy from them. If not, looks like Acardi is in second place IF they dont try to screw me over with price.

Listen to me. At worst it will be about 2 weeks. But I want it NOW!

BTW, where have you poeple been driving? I havent seen any RX8's on the road and have been looking a LOT :D

I know how you feel about the wait. I was told I had to wait about 3 weeks and I wanted it now. Might have not been the best choice financially but I LOVED being one of the first to drive the car. I know Potamkin Mazda (Bird Road) has a red one that got delivered 7/29/03, MT. I think sticker is $33K. I know b/c I left my name and # w/ all the dealers in the area and they called me to let me know they received it. But I went up to Marlin and got mine Sunday.....I couldn't wait. Talk to Julia at Marlin. Very nice girl and the finance manager is great, really helps you close the deal. (U could say I sent u).
BTW I live in Kendall and work in Hialeah. Sunlight silver, if u c me, give me a honk.

Went back to Eddie Accardi Mazda of Pompano today. They have been really umm consistent (persistent perhaps?) with keeping in touch with me. I visited them last week Friday, and then again with my mother on Sunday evening. Basically, I just wanted to show my mother how the car looks and why I love it myself. She was stoked to see the car in person and asked the salesguy about ordering an RX-8. Well, we went through the ordering process today and she put a deposit down for a Winning Blue AT with about as basic as she can get it.

Meanwhile, I was outside just looking at the other colors that I hadn't seen before (Brilliant Black, Titanium Grey, and Lightning Yellow) and this lady has just got done test driving the yellow RX-8. I asked her how she liked the car and she was pretty enthusiastic about it as she looked at the other RX-8s in the lot. I started talking to her about the cars and she seemed surprised that some 20 yr old knew alot more about these cars than some of the salesmen themselves. I let her know that it just comes from doing research online and particularly this forum.

Anyhow, after my mother put down a deposit and did all the preliminary paperworks for her order, I asked the salesman if there was a chance that maybe I could test drive an RX-8 6MT and just see how it feels. He gladly said yes and we were on our way. He took it for a spin to a side street about a mile or two away and then let me take over the pilot controls (I say that because it just feels like a cockpit for me like the FC did). Keep in mind, this was maybe the third chance I had to practice driving stick and the first time I took it out on a main highway (US1). I'm not going to be playing the fool and act all cool like an immature young adult might do when he gets his hands on the car he loves. Although, I was a little bit nervous I handled it pretty well. The car shifts effortlessly with the exception of a CHIRP from 1st to 2nd gear. That was totally unexpected but fun nonetheless. About the headroom, I'm 6'0 tall and had about 1-2 inches worth in the car with moonroof. Shoot, I don't think I even had that much in my FC Vert.

The ironic thing is, since I no longer have a car... My mother is giving me her Ford Windstar and getting herself an RX-8. Now, shouldn't it be the other way around? Ah well, I'm not complaining. She will be expecting the arrival of her RX-8 sometime in 8-12 weeks, which is fine because we're also moving to another place in the meantime. And then I'll also be moving out on my own in February of next year, so I can use the van to load up my junk.

Let me add that while the guys at Gunther are nice, they arent too well infomred with em at elast. Yesterday I got an email from Hugh Nemets that if I stopped by that same day and closed the deal and TOOK DELIVERY he could give me fleet pricing. SO I run over and guess what? No cars at ALL to even look at, best delivery dates on a yellow and red was 3-4 weeks, and a black was looking at 10 weeks. Drove to Acardi and signed the deal on a titankum gray with Sport package thats already in port and estimated delivery time of 2 weeks. I woulda taken the one they ahd on the showroom floor, but it had a moonroof (that I dont want) and about 3,000 in dealer "extras" such as exterior protectant, etc etc tec.

TO be fair to Gunther, they dont charge as much of a dealer fee, but with a 10 week delivery time, I just couldnt give them my business. Not to mention the fact that they lied to me on email twice.

Based on my personal experiences, I have been disappoitned with Gunther Mazda's service.

I've spent all summer long shopping for a Mazda 6s Sports package there because they have the lowest dealer fee, and a larger lot compared to other dealers. I spent countless hours on several trips, only to find it was all for nought. I was pressured left and right, negotiating on a car that DID NOT EVEN EXIST.

See, my salesman pressured me to close on my very first trip, guaranteeing that they would deliver my exact car (color/options) within 3 days. Each time I asked him to check the computers to locate the car, he stalled and gave me an excuse, only to shift the focus back on the price game. This charade went on for the next several weeks until finally I demanded to speak to the Sales Manager (who, btw, was not a nice man) to locate my car. He then informed me that this car was not available, and that production had haulted for the '04 models. I was angered, to say the least that they strung me along like this.

Marlin Mazda on the other hand, was truthful with me and let me know right away that the car was not available til 2004. "Meanwhile, why don't you consider the Rx-8?" said Bruce, the General Sales Manager.

Which brings me here. After a few brief visits and returned calls, I've reserved a Winning Blue Manual, scheduled to arrive end of August for MSRP. "Tito", as well as Herman are very friendly salesmen, and have never made me uncomfortable by coming off as pushy.

"We have never lost a sale because of price," claimed my Gunther salesman. Well, not only did they lose my business based on price, they lost me because of their dishonesty.

I'd say check out Marlin Mazda. They'll take care of you.

Now that I think about it, my initial experience with Gunther wasn't all that great. I stopped by there that one day as I had posted earlier and it took about 5 minutes before anyone came out... and this was when I had started to walk away and around the service area to see whose FC was in the garage. The saleslady approached my girlfriend and thus started the communication process. I tried to ask her about pre-orders and where they get their cars from but she kept changing the subject and even at one time started joking about blondes and brunettes. I didn't come to hear jokes, I came to see the RX-8. The lady then wanted my contact information and I abruptly told her no. They did make a point to say that they sell their cars at the right price, but it just seemed so cocky in the attitude. My mother didn't even like going there and that was 5 months ago when my sister's boyfriend went to pick up a Neon SXT at the Dodge Dealership nearby.

Don't worry Dave, I don't come to this forum too often and it looks like I won't be getting an RX-8 either. The entire HP number controversy has turned me off to the car.

I think that dealers have a lot to learn about customer service. The ONLY dealer that ever treated me like I was important and my satisfaction was the goal was Scanlon Lexus of Fort Myers. They were great. It was primarily the service mgr (now at BMW). The Mazda dealer in Fort Myers, FL is also Scanlon owned and service is connected with Lincoln. I would say that they are average for a dealer - WATCH EM LIKE A HAWK!

oh, and MAV, it still is a great car.
