I'm very curious about this too. For sure I would want to put Winter tires on some steel rims for the winter. There's got to be a way to disable the sensors so the light is not gona be on all Winter long.

Anyone got a clue ?

...:mad: stupid know it all tyre pressor sensors... NO FUSE FOR YOU!!... there's gotta be a workaround.

hmm... let's ask, who was it, that had the problem with slightly overinflated tyres, and didn't know what the light meant...??

anyone can point me to a picture of the warning light?
and does it tell you which tire is in question??

When I picked up my car I asked the service manager about either purchasing tire sensors for aftermarket wheels or disabling the tire monitoring system. He admitted that he did not know the answer to that question but said that Mazda was going to be doing a Tech Training on the car on August 6-8 in MA and that he would try to get an answer from them. When I get a response from him I'll post it here.

and does it tell you which tire is in question?? Don't have a picture, but it looks like a cross-section of a tire, with an exclamation point alongside, in yellow. It doesn't identify which tire needs attention - you should check all four.

Transfer your old sensors or buy 4 new ones. When you switch to different sensors, it takes about 15 minutes of driving for the car to learn the new codes & you are all set.

Easy workaround - buy a Canadian RX-8! If my car is any indication, we (Canadian market RX-8s) don't get the TPMS on our cars!

I hope that it really is that simple but I have a sneaking suspicion that the pressure sensors will not fit properly on all aftermarket wheels.

Any non-critical system on a car can be disabled :). Hell, you can probably just kill 12v to the receiver module and call it a day.

This is yet another case of "when is the shop manual gonna be available!"
