View Full Version : Buyer's remorse?
8_wannabe 07-21-2003, 06:09 PM Ok, time to put up or shut up. Many of us have the car; all of us have opinions. We've all read (or posted) our gripes: Poor gas mileage, engine heat in the passenger compartment, dipstick tough to reach, weak a/c, flaky nav system, seat chafes my butt, etc etc. Please don't use this thread to post a new gripe; there are plenty of existing such threads. Here's the question: Now that you've seen and/or heard the hard facts about the 8 does it affect your buying decision? Or all we all just whiners and gripers? I've posted enough complaints of my own, but you know what: I found myself sitting at work thinking about my car and I've never done that before. I get a sh#t-eating grin everytime I think of excuse to get out and go somewhere. Like we said in the Navy: A bitching sailor is a happy sailor, and this is one happy RX-8 owner. So please post your opinion in the poll and let's see are we all just bitching or is this one cool car!?
My remorse is that it's my wife's car, and I've only been able to drive it a couple of times. I'm stuck with my old blazer.
lucke 07-21-2003, 07:17 PM once i save my money and pay off my debts, i will buy one... the bad part of that is, it will be next year 3rd/4th quarter, but it will be mine...
oh yes it...will...be...mine... :D
Fat Morbo 07-21-2003, 07:30 PM Also, my only regret is not being able to afford one right now. Just graduated from college and I'm currently working an internship which pays well... but is only temporary. Until I find steady reliable employment, I can't afford to add another monthly bill on top of rent/ultilities/etc :(
But after obtaining said job, and a few months of putting away some kind of savings account for the first time in several years... THEN I'll be able to afford this car :)
Maybe I'll just wait a full year, until the 2005 models roll out and the dealers get a bit more incentive to clear out the 2004's... it's going to be a long year wait though...
8_wannabe 07-21-2003, 07:36 PM I'm encouraged by the poll results thus far (24 votes.) Despite all our moanin' and whinin' no buyer or potential buyer has backed out of the deal. (Actually, I do know of one but he hasn't weighed in yet.) Anyway, keep the faith!!
Prowla 07-21-2003, 09:24 PM My opinions are exactly that of Fat Morbo and lucke... My patience is really going to be tested as I look to get one around the same time as they do. I don't even have a car... hell, i don't even have a job anymore and being without both sucks. Big props to those who got their rx-8s and appreciate them... I'll be joining you guys one day... There's only 2 cars I ever plan on owning... another FC and and RX-8.

The weak A/C and the engine heat are the only things that could possibly concern me enough to give me pause (assuming I like the car when I drive it).
Are these problems universal? How noticeable is the engine heat, and can't the A/C cool down the car?
What concerns me about the engine compartment heat is what it is doing to all the wires and hoses in there...
ggreen29 07-22-2003, 12:25 AM Buyer's Remorse!??!? No way! The pollsters must be crazy!

C'mon, man... read the rules. The gripe threads are elsewhere on this forum.

Well, with 61 votes in only 6.5% have changed their mind or are thinking about it. In a diverse society like ours I'd say that's pretty darn good. My considered analysis is that, despite the hundreds of gripes posted throughout this RX8 forum, it's all idle chatter when it comes down to putting your money on the line. Survey says: We love this car! :)

I was not griping; just a comment and concern. I don't have the car and I have not driven it. Can't gripe until I experience it myself.
It would be foolish to ignore what others say are the shortcomings of the car if I think they would affect my ownership experience. We are talking $30,000 here, for a car I don't even need. And let's face it, Mazda's last rotary launch with the third-generation RX-7 was slightly less than stellar! Hopefully they have learned the lessons of their past.
It's hard to make "rules" for threads- they ALWAYS take on a mind of their own!
RotaryStalker 07-22-2003, 09:37 AM Seen it, drove it, still undecided. I have at least a year to make up my mind though.

Man, I'm not pickin on you guy, just all of the nit pickin! Geez.
Go & check one out now. Please y'all! They're out there now. The car's gonna be 10 times better than y'all are making it seem, nit....nit....nit! Drive one and all these nit pickin BS so-called-major-concerns will just be so darned minor, it's like, who cares!
At least that's how it is with me. The car has to pass every one of these intense scrutinies by every single rx8forum member to be worthy of your acceptance??? "Oh crap, it aint perfect. I might as well buy another car then, one that can at least make me feel like I'm driving a rocket. If I can't buy perfection, I might as well buy a rocket ship."
See ya!
Oh, BTW, I'll say it again, I'm not talkin about anybody, I'm just talkin about what I'm talkin about.
edit: OK, this just in: http://www.rx8forum.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=7226
Now THIS is what I'm talkin about.:D
Charleston 07-22-2003, 10:12 AM If you are worried about the air conditioning get some serious window tinting. Mine will have new tinting the day after I get it.

Well said, racer-x. I'm at fault as much as anyone, but I've got the car and despite any nitting you hear from me I'm damn glad I got it. Most fun car I've ever had, and all the problems combined that we mentioned take away maybe 0.9% of the enjoyment factor. They really are nits.
I'm not damn glad I got it.
I'm SUPER MOTHER F***N' ecstatic I got it!! :D
I'm really enjoying this car.
Synergy 01-29-2004, 06:52 PM Well... I guess I'm the exception here.
I was gonna... but then I bought my dream car! BMW M5!!! :D
Now I know what a $*** eating grin is!!!

My boss has a brand new M5 (well, about 6 months old now) which he takes to the track regularly.
A very nice car indeed - and goes like a scalded cat too.
Congrats!
Simon.
Senseny 01-29-2004, 07:20 PM Synergy, I love my 8, but I am relatively sure that I would love an M5 more.
I don't have any buyers regret, but the gas consumption issue does bother me.
93rdcurrent 01-29-2004, 07:30 PM I love my 8 and for the price of an M5, about $92k with taxes and all options I would want, I could make one hell of an RX-8 that the M5 couldn't compete against $ for $. Well I guess there is always cabin space.
Saw it, wanted it, read about it, doubted it, thought about it, bought it, love it.
Holly 02-04-2004, 06:20 PM GOT IT! LOVE IT!
