This is your reporter in the field Feras reporting from a steak n shake in richmond kentucky.

The dragon rocked, it was awesome meeting all the new people, saying hi to the old people, and getting drunk with both.

To simplify id say pretty much everyone had a good time.

Me personally in just a few words: I raced my car, I white water rafted, i got drunk, i won the poker tournament, i raced some more, i did a 12 minute night dragon run, i got drunk some more, i went horseback riding, tried to finish the liquor, and gott back on the road :).

Till next year!
This is feras reporting and returning to the road north

You left out "I won some prizes, got drunk, drank DaveT's coffee, peeled some rubber off my tires" part.

Glad you're safe so far.

:) And, I might add, that due to the generosity of our sponsors we didn't have to spend any money on prizes. That, plus an auction at the banquet Saturday night resulted in a donation to the Red Cross for Katrina victims of over $600....... :)

Oh yeah.....visit this place too. Did you know if you cross the border at Niagara Falls going in to Canada, it's free. Coming back to the USA costs you 50 cents though....

Let me just say.....

We had an AWESOME TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It was great finally putting some faces with some names. And I must say that Feras's accounts of the weekend are very accurate. I plan on posting all of my pictures and Christina will be putting together all of the footage from the week. I will also post a lot more detail tomorrow on the week, pretty tired from the LONG drive home!

But for now, I really want to say THANK YOU to everyone who came. The meet went PERFECTLY and I wouldn't change a thing!

Until tomorrow.....

This event went off without a hitch thanks to all of the awesome particpants and all of the sponsors. I can't think of a single thing that we would have changed. There were planned activities (Show and Shine, Dragon Run, Banquet, Cookout, Raffle drawing, etc) and many unplanned ones (DRAGON NIGHT RUN, oh the drinking, poker game (damn you Feras), drinking some more, bon fire, Smores, and this not so friendly cliff outside one of the cabins...)

I can honestly say this was one of the best vacations I have ever had!!!

Here is a summary of my experience:
Tuesday/Wednesday: Left at 2am, took the long senic tour, ran into some traffic and some road construction arrived at Fontana around 2pm on Wednesday. Unpacked the 8, which could not have held another box. Then it was on to stuffing everyone's goody bag (which included a 1:43 scale RX-8 Model car, Mazdasport Magazine, Borla material, stickers, a Borla Hat, Suntrust Koozies, DPE discount coupons, and some other things I can't remember). Everyone began arriving and everyone recieved a Goody Bag, T-Shirt and information packet. OOppsss damn that cliff out side DaveT's cabin, it was wayyyyyy too dark. (Wait for the video and you will get a good laugh)

Thursday: White Water Rafting with me, Christina, Feras, Brian (epitrichoid) and Carolyn. Only one casualty, Carolyn getting launched out of the raft. Then the first DRAGON RUN, what a way to kick off the week. Time to Drink after that and then some Poker! Damn you Feras for taking everyones money except mine HAHAHA.

Friday: 2nd Annual BOTD Car Wash thanks to Fontana Village for their awesome hospitality for setting this up for us. 1st Annual BOTD Show and Shine, went off without a hitch!! And we got a ton of awesome pics to show. Time for another Dragon Run. The banquet was great, Brian can cook up some mean burgers and hot dogs. Wait ANOTHER Dragon run, this time at Night (you will have to wait for the video on this one too!) And now more drinking!

Saturday: Some horse back riding and then the banquet! TONS of raffle prizes given out. Every participant got a prize and every 8 owner got a big prize ($50 or more). And guess what MORE DRINKING!!

All in all a PERFECT week. See below for some teaser pictures.

I made it home about 11:30 last night. THANK YOU ORGANIZERS!!

I had a great time and it was really nice to meet everybody.

Damn, what a road that was. I have never, ever had to turn my head 180 degrees in order to follow the center line around a curve. I'm still in awe at the speeds we did through there, especially the last night run - eh Matt? What a rush!

I gave up tracking the gas, but I can tell you I burned almost an entire tank between the Skyway drive and the last night run. I think my low fuel light came on the next morning around 203 miles.

I'll definately be back next year with all of you and any potential newcomers. Now, I need to go figure out why I'm burning oil, the external kind :(

Thanks again to all for a memorable weekend.

The trip was awesome; I only regret I couldn't have made it for the whole time. I arrived at O’ god it's pitch black thirty on Thursday night. I think I spent 45 minutes just looking for the cabin. But come Friday when that day's events started happening, it was all good.
The two dragon runs (1 up & 1 down) during the day rocked, then the 2 runs (1 up & 1 down) that night "scary rocked."
The Dragon run and the Skyway run the next day was a great finishing drive for the weekend.
All the booty donated by the various sponsors was awesome. Of the big prizes.. I came away with the DPEWeb gift certificate and the Maguiers (sp) kit.
Thanks again to Christina and James for saving me a Titan rx8 from the Mazda sponsors.
I will get my pictures of the car show posted soon for all to see.

Again, thank you to everyone for making this years event so great, and special thanks to James, Dave, Lee, Cherye, and Randy.

2 "over-powered" stomachs from the Dragon.

1 sunburn, and 1 woman overboard, from the whitewater rafting.

Several folks walking funny from the horseback riding.

Close calls, but no casualities from the archery.

2 cases of Alka Seltzer for various impediments.

15# of Bubba Burgers, 5# of hot dogs, and 8 cartons of soft drinks for the cook-out.

168 cups of coffee (only 68 if we don't count Feras).

1 Winning Blue on it's frame when the owner backed over the edge of the parking lot.

1 Big grin from the youngest Dragon driver - DavidT3 (16).

1 Bigger grin from his grandfather and oldest participant - DaveT (62)

2 bags of peanuts for Brian's and Lee's - "oh, I'll just have a couple".

Dave - I smelled what I thought was burning oil during my last gas stop on the way home. Popped the hood and saw all kinds of smoke coming from the engine bay. Oil level was fine so I was thinking oil cooler leak or something. Never dawned on me that it could be tranny fluid. Oh well, my car is going to be fixed tomorrow. Too bad I didn't buy that exhuast system you had, tomorrow would have been a perfect time to swap.

Btw - I came by the cabin just a tad before 0500 Sun morn for a hot cup. I saw the deck light on but nothing else. I even peeked through the window for a minute or two but left after I thought that maybe your neighbors just might get the wrong impression of me.

Next year I'll just come in and make a fresh pot!

Well Epi and Ryan did look much better groomed than last year ... wonder what was different ... perhapse their guests??? :)

Seriously, checked back in to see how it went. Looks like everyone had a great time. Anyone care to guess how many years straight well see this gathering? It's become more than "Just the Dragon".

Yes, epi and Ryan were somewhat tethered...but there were flashbacks :D

You should have brought the Phaeton down, Bill...would have been a blast

And, you're right, it is much more than the Dragon now. Almost like an annual family reunion, plus a lot of super new folks. Just an all around great time.

I know if I have anything to do with it, this will be going on for many years to come!! And I can guarentee that with each passing year it will get better and better. Even this year alone we were recognized by sponsors of all sizes, with enough support to give half the people in attendance more than one prize!!!

Last year got a "little" crazy hahahahaha, this year had more of a vacation feel with a mix of some great parties and drinking. The overall agreement seemed to be that everyone GREATLY enjoyed this year.

Just a little hint for next year, I have some guarenteed support from some large names already lined up for next year.......new goal in the next few years......OUT NUMBER THE MINI COOPERS!!!!!!

Too bad I didn't buy that exhuast system you had, tomorrow would have been a perfect time to swap.!

I installed the exhaust system last night, very easy to do. Sounds great and looks good too :D

Now the question is what to do with my factory exhaust

I'd like to make an apology again to ALWAZL8 for scaring her on the last dragon night run. Its a different feeling of control (as a driver) or lack of control (as a passenger) when getting your 8 sideways around a turn. I kept my promise of bringing my girls (ALWAZL8 and my car) back from the dragon in one piece! ;)

Just wanted to make it known that I do feel bad for puttin' a scare in ya ALWAZL8. I promise I won't do it again next year! ;)

Just a side note - don't know if anyone else might be interested, but maybe stretchin' the vacation a bit for next year, I'm considering hitting up the Biltmore Estate http://www.biltmore.com/ before meeting up with the dragon crew. Just a thought for any others who might be interested!

It would make a great side trip, allbeit one that will take all day by the time you take in the mansion, winery, grounds, etc. But a worthwhile adventure. They have even let other groups set up for a photoshoot on the main front lawn with the mansion in the background.

I can drive it in just over 2 hours from West Knoxville, so it would probably be about the same timewise from the Village since can't run Interstate speeds all the way.

:o Thanks, Chris. You have it exactly right - it's way different being the passenger, who's not in control of the situation, rather than the driver, who is. It was a fun ride anyway. :D

I'm gonna hold you to that. ;) :)

Hey! Werent you one of the two people that spoke during the safety meeting? And didnt you say "DONT CROSS THE DOUBLE YELLOW LINES"? This doesnt affect whether I drive your car next year or not.

Yeah I remember last year with Lee sternly warning us about crossing the double yellow. We make a few runs and I thought we were going seriously fast. I was really impressed with the speed the guys in front were going. Then Epi posts the video and you can see all the front guys, Epi and Lee included we WAY over the line. No wonder they coudl keep that speed. :) I guess some things don't change ...

this year i was much better about lane crossing (and by lane crossing, i mean getting all or part of one tire over the line, never the entire car [except at night lol])...i know this because last year my DSC only activated when I got a wheel on the paint, and this year there was considerably less DSC activity. i did have better tires this time, as did feras (once we scraped the noodles off his treads lol)

in honesty it's best to say NEVER CROSS THE LINE but in reality (and lee can attest) there is a handful of place where you can take liberty

yeah those noodles were wierd, but you stepped it up a notch this year it took every inch of my driving to keep up with ya, lets just say my DSC was quite active. Im signing up for some autocross before next year, coz you'll be outmodding me too by then lol i might as well get better at driving.

I vote for closing it in opposing directions next year. IE - at night, we send someone up, essentially making a run, and when they get to the other end, they stop all oncoming traffic, and then everyone makes a run for it! This should be feasible if we have police34! :D Just wishful thinking I suppose!
