How come no media blitz like the 6.

I've seen a ton of billboards, but no commercials

It is odd isn't it?

They really need to start, because this car needs to sell well in order for them to consider reviving the 7, or building a rotary miata coupe

Good call, I was thinking about this very question while I was reading another thread.

Remember when the 6 came out, they had commericals where they wouldn't even show the car in an effort to peak interest. Yet nothing of the like for the 8. Nissan continually aired commercials for the Z for at least the first few months.

Wait for the fall- you should start seeing commercials then. I forget the reason, but Mazda decided to wait to start heavily advertising it until then. Maybe it was to give them a chance to start getting on the road, so people will put two and two together when they see them on the road and then watch the commercials on TV.

I've seen ads in magazines too.

I don't think the 8 would need any commmercials.

The 8 commercials are scheduled to start airing in September. This was given to us at the short press release. There will be two distinct TV commercials when aired and some 15 second spots.

Mazda is waiting for two reasons, one they want cars on the ground before the ads starts. Two they are launching it with all the new season premiers in the fall line up on national TV.

Also they have said that the advertising will not be as intense as the 6, they are saving their money for the launch of the Mazda3 in January or Feburary.

Considering the fact that a good portion of pre-order people haven't even received their cars yet, I wouldn't expect Mazda to spend money and effort on a TV advertising campaign until they have enough RX8s to sell to make it worth while.

There's a commercial that's been airing for a coulpe of months hyping the reliability of the rotary engine in racing. I'm sure that they are doing this to make people aware of the rotary engine as a prelude to the intro of the RX-8. Also, I've seen a brief ad for the RX-8 on the History Channel, several times.

The RX-8 X MEN commercial was aired before the movie was released :)

The media blitz actually hurt the 6 more than it helped... When the 6 came out, the number of people wanting the V6 were far greater than the ones wanting the i4. So many people were turned off when all they could find were the I4's. Rumor has it this was the last staw for Hughes.. and Booth asked him to step down. (they did not like each other)

There are a set of commercials that will air this fall, durring shows like CSI... One as a pair of 15sec spots that will appeal to the "logical side of the brain" and another 30 sec spot that "emmotional"

(IMHO, the emmotional one kinda dorkey, a dude in the garage is admiring his car, thinking about carving up the twisties, he steps into the area where the front and rear doors are, and hugs the car... then the 8's door's close on him like a hug back...)

I would say that in general, Mazda has pretty weak brand awareness.

When I was talking to an average person about how much I like the Mazda RX-8 and they were like "Sounds cool... what other cars does Mazda make?". It's not like people don't know the name Mazda at all... it's just not in the fore-front of people's minds.

Also, when I first saw this car (in X-Men 2, yeah I'm a car noob) I was like "Wow, what kind of car is that?". I had to look it up on fansites then when I realized it was made by Mazda, I realized I knew nothing about the company in terms of quality and history of cars. Since then I've educated myself quite a bit.

But the point is that your average person just doesn't know a lot about Mazda in general I think. Take a look when you drive around parking lots and such, see how many Mazda symbols you see... I don't think it'll be a lot. I know I've been on the lookout trying to spot my first RX-8 on the road here in Seattle and in general I don't spot a whole lot of Mazda's at all.

Obviously their marketing is trying to brand the name with the "Zoom Zoom" concept and the fact that they are playing commercials... I just don't think that it has stuck in the average Joe's head yet.

Phew, anyway... to the direct subject at hand: I have not seen any TV commercials yet, but I cannot wait until I do. I really wanna see this car in motion. I have seen plenty of magazine ads in magazines like Maxim and Stuff, but thats about it.

yeah but you know some of the new owners here have done just that! and i expect i will be one of them next week! when no one is looking, of course;) :D

i think i agree with the folks who said let the pre-orders get their cars and get some inventory ready to go to the dealers and then start the commercials. you'll only piss people off if they see the commercial and then there is none available.

Yeah the rx8 was advertised all the time with X2, on Fox and such. I think having it in such a big movie was quite a good form of advertising but I guess a lot of people didn't know what it was because a lot of people I talked to were like "That blue car was a Mazda?" I heard that they were going to do a promo with someone else too, but now I can't remember what it was. I don't want them to whore it out too much though, you know? I think they had commercials on the speed channel too.

IMHO, the emmotional one kinda dorkey Mazda has generally had a pretty bad ad agency(ies). They've had no memorable commercials...well maybe some of the M6 commercials, but by the time I saw those I was so revved for the 8 that anything with an 'm' 'r' or 'x' in it caught my attention. I was even delighted that 8 o'clock came around twice a day.

I remember when I first saw the Nick Drake "Pink, pink, pink, pink moon" VW cabriolet commercial I thought THAT should've been a Miata commercial...driving for the sake of driving is what Mazda sportiness is all about.

They must take all their really bad salesmen and put them in charge of marketing.

1. Because of boards like this

2. Because enthusiasts who are likely to buy the car already know about it from magazines and the internet

3. Because of games like GT3 that feature the car

4. Because Pretty much every RX-8 they are building right now is already spoken for

5. Didn't you watch X2?

rx-8 will sell by it self. Each and every single rx-8 in so - cal is already sold for this week.
