This is my future counsin-in-law's first hand experience in New Orleans. His photographic journal spans five days, from Sunday, August 31 to Thursday, September 4. He was working and living in New Orleans up until last Friday. He left to Houston and flew to Miami on Monday. He has lost everything but happy to be alive. This is his photos and story.

Please take a look, its very powerful.

wow. those are some amazing pictures. i think he did a better job portraying the situation than the media, simply because it wasn't over-sensationalized...it was real.

damn.... :(

my comment on his gallery: ive seen the pictures on tv, and the news reports, and being from an area that doesnt ahve to suffer through things like this, you really made it more real with your story than any other news agency could do. best of luck in rebuilding.

Mav, thank you so much for posting the link. These pictures, and their commentary, are by far the most effective and chronologically accurate statement of this disaster. Thank your future cousin-in-law for me, and I hope he's able to get his life back together and reunite with his friends.

It's always good to keep in mind that what you see on the "news" isn't necessarily the whole truth or even the truth at all. The photos and commentary about the news crews added a good perspective. Hmmm... Texas is serving as a lifeline for so many of these folks. I may have to change my opinion of that state.... :)

Amazing images. Brought back memories of hurricane Charley's aftermath last year here in Florida. Thanks for posting.

Wow. Please thank Alvaro for doing all this. I visited new Orleans to do some work at Memorial medical center. I've walked past those places, in particular the shoe store that he showed being looted. It's so sad.

I have to say that the calm in the eye of the storm was very surreal.

Time magazine has some impressive photos. The wide-view pictures of the destruction don't seem to be possible on TV. I didn't grasp just how bad it was until I saw the magazine photos. It's going to take a long time to rebuild. Very sad.
