I'm looking for a decent frickin' range hood for my kitchen. All of my appliances are stainless steel so I want a stainless steel range hood to match. I'm not interested in the ones they sell at Lowes or Home Depot because they don't move enough air.
I don't want anything fancy, but it's got to be able to pull more than 400 CFM. The lowest price I could find for a 30" x 9" SS hood is $640 (http://www.thenaturalhome.com/ch179u.htm). Granted it's a good hood, but it's just two fans in a metal box! That's just the starting point, too. These damn things can cost thousands of dollars.
Why???

try www.rangehoods.com (http://www.rangehoods.com)
Already been there. Everything there is either too expensive, doesn't pull enough air, or is made by Broan.

Don't think I'm not tempted. :p
Stainless steel is a bit of a pain to work with. But $640, dang! I don't remember what brand we got. My wife picked it up. Salesman kept trying to give her a "quiet" model. She told him to forget the decibels and show her one that would suck the lids off the pots on high. I'll check what brand it is when I get home.
Edit - Ours is a "Nutone", but not one of the high-end models. You can get a SS model in your size for around $320, but this one moves 300CFM on high, so doesn't seem to meet your needs...

If you move up to the Rangemaster models (which look more like the one you show) you can get 500 or 850 cfm, but they're as expensive, or more so, than your example. the fans are separate and the 850cfm fan alone is over $400. For more $$ you can even go to an external fan that moves 1500 cfm!!! :eek!: I think ours is a 300cfm model which is plenty for us but we only have a small 4-burner radiant cooktop.
