Cokerx7 09-01-2005, 12:31 PM Hey people I was informed about the gas strike today.. i know its like mid day.. but there was a call that's going around to stop buying gas so it can go down tomorrow.. because of "Supply and Demand" .. I'm riding on quater of a tank and it hurts my eyes to see my baby hungry.. but i'm not getting gas today.. and waiting for tomorrow.. the stock market will be in a mix up and everything.. so dont buy gas today!!! if you do.. dont fill ya tank .. do like 7 bucks.. i know its like 2 gallons but we gotta take action..
StealthTL 09-01-2005, 12:39 PM We all decided the gas strike was TOMORROW!!!!!
Doh...
:D S
Glyphon 09-01-2005, 12:53 PM these strikes are complete rubish and have zero affect on anything, other than constraining the people participating in it.
for such a thing to have an effect, it would have to be over an extended period of time (like a month, or longer), and people just aren't going to put themselves out that much. so forget about it and go buy your gas.
Gambit 09-01-2005, 01:41 PM gas strikes don't work because the station owners know you'll jsut go get it tomorrow
Xtasy94 09-01-2005, 02:24 PM They work if you boycott one brand until they lower their prices instead of all brands for a short time. Think about it.
KYLiquid 09-01-2005, 02:29 PM you go ahead and skip buying gas, ill go to the station and get the gas you left behind.
Around my house and work there is NO gas left...people went crazy filling up their cars, and gas cans, one guy next to me bought 115 gals of gas, he filled his truck till it was overflowing, like 22 gal and then a bunch of 5 gal cans and a big ass drum. spend close to 380 bucks or something....
I filled up my car till it shut off like normal and it was about 13 gals. There is virtualy no gas left in any of the parts of town im in, and I dont want to waste gas and drive an extra 20 miles to get gas and come back...thats silly, but might be what i have to do. At least the premium is the last gas to run out.
Its also tough to see what the prices are, since the stations take them down when they run out.
Gas strikes wont work cuase they know there are people that will buy the gas.
Toadman 09-01-2005, 02:47 PM Gas boycott? Ha, go right ahead.
GWB speech: "If you don't need gas, don't buy gas".
Do we need Labor-Day trips then? This is an ominous foretelling of events in the coming weeks. Allowing non-US flagged vessels to start delivering crude is a sign of concern also, and that effect won't be felt for about a month, plus time to refine it. Top off your tanks today(I did) and maybe a little extra in containers. Gas may jump a quarter or two overnight after this speech. We're teetering on the edge of a recession, imho
Kel Rx8 09-01-2005, 04:44 PM theres no way around it
I would boycott it if my car ran on toilet water.but the truth is it wont run on anything else.
im using my civic now but since my last swap its starting to be a slow guzzler.only thing left is a motorcyle and my bike hasnt turned on for years :(
XDEEDUBBX 09-01-2005, 04:54 PM gas are you kidding? My car runs on money!
Photic 09-01-2005, 05:21 PM They work if you boycott one brand until they lower their prices instead of all brands for a short time. Think about it.
I was reading that that particular movement wouldn't work because they can just sell it to another Station that would need it. They will spread it out to other dealers to cover any loss they might get from people not buying their gas.
This has been a subject in chainmail for years now.
Nemesis8 09-01-2005, 05:27 PM I need gas, I'm at 1/8th tank :(
90cc mopeds for all my friends
JoeRX8ter 09-01-2005, 06:13 PM Gas is going up 60 cents tomorrow. When it hits $4.00 it will drop 25 cents and stay at $3.75. How is that for price fixing bullshit!
zoom44 09-01-2005, 07:12 PM i didnt buy gas yesterday or the day before or today and wont be buying any for at least a week. i filled up last friday.
BlueEyes 09-01-2005, 07:14 PM haha, damn zoom. I was following you from thread to thread watching you crush them. Then you didn't do it to this one, I'm a little dissapointed. I was enjoying it.
MidLife8 09-01-2005, 07:14 PM As for boycotting, it is an old hoax. Visit www.snopes.com and search the site for "gasoline" - you will find some familiar blurbs about boycotting either on a specific date or a company and the rebuttal arguments that explain why they won't work. If everyone got rid of their cars and rode bicycles, then that would have the desired effect but that is not my option - I bought my 8 to drive.
97zimmer 09-01-2005, 09:00 PM mmmm i went and filled up the v8 bmw..hmmmm gas guzzling... :D glad i have a fuel bank, i pay 1.97 a gallon for super unleaded.of course you all should have looked into that before gas hit 2 bucks. i only have 3k in my fuel bank. so once thats gone im fuked... :(
Buzz'n 09-01-2005, 09:44 PM I would be glad to find a gas station that was only 2/gal. Here in MD I am paying 3.96/gal...was 2.84 yesterday!!! Don't know what is going to be higher this month my mortgage payment or my gas bill...Rumors around here is that gas will be 5/gal by Monday.
Luftwaffle 09-01-2005, 10:02 PM I'm heading over to Jersey sometime this weekend. I'll go check it out. It's 3.90 right now at the station by my house. If I go another mile, it drops to 2.90. I might go shop around. :D

$1 difference in a mile! That's hilarious. Right off the exit to my town it's about 3.10 or so(might be more now, haven't been home in a week will find out tomorrow) and about 15 cents cheaper a mile down the road, but damn a dollar. WTF mate?
chrism 09-02-2005, 05:34 AM its between $3.11 and $3.45 in jersey now.....or at least it was last night

It's just price gouging on an individual basis. I have an Exxon and a Citgo next to each other about 6 blocks from my house. If I go all the way down the road and turn left, there's a BP that sells for a dollar less. I dunno what's up with that, but it's true. For some reason, the Northern Blvd. stations are a bunch cheaper than the Bell Blvd. ones.
rkostolni 09-02-2005, 07:50 AM How much of the price increases are due to oil prices being raised, and how much is due to the gas companies, exxon, bp, citgo, just raping its customers and adding huge markups to their product? I would love to know how much profit they get per gallon or per dollar of gas sold.
Luftwaffle 09-02-2005, 08:00 AM As much as we complain, gas is still cheaper here than in other countries I believe.
jaguargod 09-02-2005, 08:42 AM Atlanta is paying more than $6 per gallon now. Something about a special pipeline that comes from the disaster area. Those people are in trouble. If it hits $5 per gallon nationwide, this country is going to crumble. And all in the name of making a buck. I hope the oil people are proud of what they are doing. It seems the federal government isn't doing much to control prices or deliver aid to the hurricane victims. Can you imagine paying $75 to fill the tank of your RX-8?

It has already been discussed that most other countries pay more for fuel because of taxes that fund public transportation. Public transportation in the U.S. is pretty much non-existent, so why would we pay even close to what those countries do?
Luftwaffle 09-02-2005, 08:52 AM I have public transportation.
Hotsauce 09-02-2005, 09:07 AM Fill up the Rx-8 yesterday before the gas prices shot up. Parked her in the garage, rode in to work today on my bicycle. It was an excellent ride look forward to riding in again next week.

nah, that was just tuesday when the local paper reported that atlanta was going to run out of gas (that's some good, quality, responsible journalism right there  ). gas prices are back down to normal prices. i passed a station this morning that had premium for $3.10. range for premium seems to be $3.10-$3.50.
Rotarian_SC 09-02-2005, 09:31 AM I have public transportation too.
alcimedes 09-02-2005, 09:55 AM The reason why prices are so different is it depends on when the station bought their gas, what they paid when they bought it, and if they have enough cash on hand to pay for the (as of yet unknown) next tanker of fuel coming their way.
If you buy 1000 gallons at $2.25, sell it at $2.50, you make $250, and you spent $2,250 to do it.
So you go to buy your next tanker full in a week, and holy crap! This tanker is going to cost you $3.25 to purchase. Now you need $3,250, and you've only got $2,500 on hand.
Now, take those numbers, increase the gallons you buy by around 80 times, and cut that profit margin from 25¢ per gallon to about 2¢ per gallon, and you can see why there would be huge differences in what people are selling their gas for.
The stations that are cash rich can afford to sell for less, as they can purchase a tankerful at whatever the price is. The stations that are cash poor have to charge based on what they think they market will be when they have to refill their tanks, and so charge more in this type of situation.
"Shanika" 09-02-2005, 09:58 AM Wow! This is the first time since I've been buying gas that Calif gas prices are less then the East coast states.
Armaant 09-06-2005, 12:59 AM Do what i did....take a decent amount of money and use it to buy stock in oil companies...I bought haliburton and exxon(this was in june but lets assume prices are still rising  ) That way when you look at the extra $1 your spending per gallon your almost paying yourself.
Cokerx7 09-08-2005, 02:25 PM Well all i do now is ride my bike to places that i normally go that are local.. like in a 20 mile radious.. and i do fine on gas now.. i found i save 60 bucks per week by riding my bike.. now i have money for a hair cut and to pimp my ride while it sits
