The warantee in Canada is shorter than the US.

The basic warranty on Mazda vehicles covers all parts found to be factory defective for 3 years or 80,000 km, whichever comes first. Additional warranties cover powertrain components for a period of 5 years or 100,000 km whichever comes first, body sheet metal perforation for 5 years and unlimited mileage and specific emission control components for up to 8 years or 128,000 km.

Exclusions from coverage are limited to maintenance items or adjustments (repairs not requiring parts replacement) on vehicles over 12 months old and repairs due to normal wear and tear. Ask your Mazda Dealer for additional information.

The extented (MAP) waranty is:

Mazda Added Protection Plan

Fully-backed by Mazda Canada Inc., the Mazda Added Protection Plan (MAP) compliments your Mazda Limited Warranty for up to 7 years or 160,000 km and protects you from unexpected repair expenses and the rising cost of repairs. MAP includes Personal Budget and Repair Inflation Protection.

Map also includes Premium Roadside Assistance, which extends coverage offered during the new vehicle limited warranty period throughout the MAP term. Premium Roadside Assistance offers Towing, Battery Boost, Out-of-Fuel Coverage, Tire Service, Lockout Service, Emergency Travel Expense Reimbursement and Travel Planning.

I was considering the 7 year 160Km, since I would like to keep this car a while and it is all new. Has anyone had experience with the Mazda extended warantee? How many things were not covered, how did the dealer handle things?

So the factory warranty is 3 years/80k, can someone explain what you get when you buy the extended plan labelled "3years/80k" ? ? ?

Maybe I am dense this morning, but I can make no sense of it.....

I'm trying my best to make a decision as to whether or not to go ahead and spend the money on the MAP warranty. My biggest question is, once the factory warranty has expired, can we continue to take in our TSB's and have them fixed? If not, I might conider getting the added protection, if so, screw it. It's going to take quite the breakdown outside of powertrain to foot a bill of $2000 depending on which plan you get. Warranties, warranties, warranties.....Have you ever had anything that fell under extended warranty before.....not me. :nono:

I have a 7yr/160kkm bumper to bumper on my Millenia S----but nothing goes wrong!

Recalls are done after the warranty expires but not TSBs.

Really its a gamble,except for Mazda they probably make money any way.

Yep, I've got to decide this week whether or not to get the extended warranty and unless someone can convince me otherwise, I'm not buying it.

Depends on the vehicle I suppose, and if it's likely to have some problems or not.
My girlfriend has MAP on her MazdaSpeed Protege.

It's gotten her a new Turbo (leaky oil line on the old one) a new Head Unit for the stereo (known fault on that car) and will get her a new LSD, amp and sub when those fail (all known weak areas on this car.) It also payed to have her car flat-bedded to the dealership when the factory alarm freaked out and thought the car was being stolen and killed the ignition. Also, MAP provides for a loaner car if your car is out of service overnight (standard Mazda warranty doesn't.)
We bought her car used, but the fact that it had MAP on it (which is transferrable) was a major factor in us deciding to buy it. (Turns out to be a lucky thing for us.)

Now, if I was buying a Mazda 3, I probably wouldn't bother with it.
With the 8? Tough call. Still not much long-term reliability history with the car, but they seem to either have trouble out of the box (which would be under the standard warranty) or they run great.

I picked up the added warrenty to 100k . I've now gotten over 61k and have had a REALLY annoying problem that KEEPS happening.. I got it fixed @ 59,500 so the next time it screws up I'll bring it back and see how they treat me then.. I did ask them if they'll give me the cold shoulder and they said with the upgraded warrenty, pretty much everything is covered until 100k and there should be no issues..

My problem is there is a short in my glovebox which appears to be tied to the parking brake and the mechanism to shut off the day time running lights when you put the parking brake up. It seems the techs aren't smart enough to pick up the manual and investigate what this is because my day times have burned out 4 times now and it takes a few hrs to fix if they have the parts. I can even hear the damn thing short out sometimes when i put up the brake. It's actually frustrating because I tell them what the problem is, but now that everything is ECU based if the damn thing doesn't tell the tech "please look at this" they don't do shit! The art of troubleshooting has been lost in this industry!

oh yea, and if i had to pay for the fix it would be over 700 bucks.. so i'm sure i'll get my money's worth!

Sorry to vent.. heh, I just don't want to be paying 700+ every other month because they can't get their shit together :)

Extended warranties are almost pure profit for most insurance and car companies. Most reliable makes have very, very little that goes wrong. Even if it does, the wording and coverage of most extended warranties (which are not as comprehensve as the original manufacturer's warranty) excludes a lot of things that probably could go wrong (e.g. premature break wear, wonky electrics). Unless you have an Aston Martin or a Ferrari, in general, it's not worth it.

I had an offer from my dealer this week to buy into the Added Protection plan. I told them last January to forget it. They seemed rather offended that I wouldn't even listen to the pitch. It's pure profit for the dealer. If you buy an extended warranty from Best Buy you're throwing your money down the toilet. Same thing with the MAP.

Waste of money.
