For those with some love for Honda, here is the full rundown on the 2006 Civic and all its variants (Si, Coupe, Sedan and Hybrid) thanks to TOV.
In summary, I think the styling of the new civic is great, the coupe is definitly going to be a home run IMO. The interior is pretty incredible when you think about the price point. The civic will give the 3 a run for its money in this area now.
As far as power trains, the Mazda 3 edges out the civic, but it remains to be seen how powerful in the real world the new 1.8L is compared to the standard 2.0L in the 3, as Honda's iVtec engines have typically been underrated in terms of power.
the economy out of that 1.8L is pretty incredible, almost Hybrid numbers on the hwy. My friends civics can usually hit or exceed the EPA ratings, so I have no reason to think the 06 won't either.
the initial drivng impressions for the Si have been very positive, basically a better, sharper RSX with a LSD (thank god).
I imagine that the new civic will be quite a seller. I hope Mazda steps up with some new technology, a direction injection engine would be nice since I doubt mazda will offer a hybrid 3. The MS6 already has a direct injection 2.3L (granted its a turbo)
