Heads up on JIC

Hey guys, came across a thread when browsing my350z.com today, and thought it'd be of interest on here.

http://www.my350z.com/forum/showthread.php?t=56791

Its about JIC and some of their antics (apparently) makes me think twice about getting stuff from them (JIC USA even). I know that theres JIC stuff out for the 8's, but would hate to see anyone on here go through some of the stuff i've read on those forums, just posted the link to make people aware more than anything else.

Surprised when i read it, cos i thought JIC stuff was top notch (their suspension anyhow, which seems to be the items in question). Anyway, happy reading

1st few pages are just a bit 'flamey' but the last couple raise a few eyebrows

Thanks for this info. Another example of how this forum makes the 8 community much better. This is coming at the time I was just about to order the jic's or the koni/springs for my car. i was favoring the koni's and now I think I will get them and not jic.

WOW is right. Great info. We have vendors that sell JIC. What do they think about this?

And I thought JIC was a good reputable company...
My faith in JIC has diminished.

Yeah im also waiting on yukio to make some sort of comment.

I was pretty certain i wanted a set of JIC coilovers when i get my 8, but after reading that, and considering the fact they arent a set of cheap coilovers i dont want to take any chances when it comes to something like suspension.

I was actually planning to get a set of FLT-A2s this winter while my car is in storage.
Guess that's not going to happen now.

I had the oposite experience with JIC and their FLT A2S on my RX-8. I had the top seal on one of the rear shocks weep a little oil within a month after I bought them and they replaced it quickly with no questions asked.

I think anyone who was seriously considering purchase of JIC products should call the company and indicate their interest was chilled by this story.

The original complaint and JIC's response don't mesh. Both sides have gaps they (conveniently?) chose to omit. On one hand JIC didn't refute they took a long time to examine the shocks or act once they received stuff back, but on the other hand the customer didn't mention a shock rebuild.

I'm more interested in the "JIC is really Korean stuff they fraudulently say is made in Japan" and "no serious asian tuners use JIC products" statements. I'd like to hear more regarding the validity of those claims.

I've got FLT A2s on my Miata, and I think they are top-notch. I've had R-package Bilsteins, as well as Tokico Illuminas w/GC sleeves, and the JICs are in another league. Ran them at the Packwood SCCA National Tour event in CSP, and I would have been .15 seconds out of a trophy if I hadn't been protested (unrelated to the JICs). Have driven them over nasty but oh-so-wonderful backroads, complete with broken pavement, invisible dips that want to launch the car, pot holes, etc. and they came out smelling like roses. I'll say it again: I think the FLT-A2s rock.

On the customer service side, I went in knowing they have a image problem on the 'net. You'll find issues on other boards, S2000 in particular. I decided I was buying a product first and customer support second, so I decided on JIC over Tein. Plus, most of the threads I read clearly had "another side" and had gaps, just like PUR NRG points out. So I went for it.

I bought mine through good-win-racing.com, (who sells RX-8 parts as well; Brian Goodwin is a good guy) and got good pre-sales service. Highly reccomend them, BTW. He's running FLTs on his RX-8 in STU currently, if I'm not mistaken.

I had one post sales issue. The first car I installed the JICs in had an engine fire two weeks after I installed them. Between the fire hose flooding the engine compartment and four weeks of constant rain getting in the engine compartment through the buckled hood, when I finally got around to installing them in a new car, I found one adjuster sticky. Sent it in to JIC and they fixed it for $20 in a few days, and they told me to call next time and they would tell me how to fix it myself.

Oh, and did I mention that JIC assembles each kit to your specs? Tell them the spring rates you want (but listen to their reccomendations, please) and they assemble the dampers in San Diego with valving specific to those rates, all the base price. How's that for customer service. Does Tein do that? No, you pay extra if you want valving specific to your rates (assuming they are different than the stock rates). I'm not knocking the Teins - by all accounts they are well made and perform well.

But my expericene with JIC has been good, both on and off the road. I'd buy them again if my Miata was stolen, totaled, etc. I'm a satisfied customer.

No affiliations, etc.

Hey guys. This is raised up by an UNHAPPY vendor about JIC because we closed their account because of their unprofessional behavior and poor customer service. We at JIC make sure that all of our vendors uphold the professional level that we expect, and GT PRO demonstrated (as you can see on their post) that they are immature and they do not know how to deal with the public.

That thread was read by our past sales manager and was taken care of and that thread was a over YEAR and a HALF AGO. This guy, Brian at GT PRO, acts like a child and I disapointed in the way he has acted.

I assure you that our products are top notch. Since I have been here on this forum, I have heard nothing but good and positive things from this community and I hate to see a vendor that is looking out for revenge do this to our name.

Again, I want to reassure you that "Brian from GT PRO" is nothing more than an unhappy vendor and that our products are one of the best. If you would like to ask me questions, please let me know. You may personally call me at 562-803-6122. I want to make sure that you are all taken care of and that unhappy, unprofessional, vendors do not go out and blatantly try to ruin a company because they could not take care of their own customers.

Yukio,

I appreciate your response. A lot of times we hear one side of the story. It is good to hear another side, as well as it seems a representative of the company standing behind his product line.

Absolutely. It's quite sad that someone has the time to waste by going to forum to forum posting the same thing (by cutting and pasting the same message over and over) out of spite. It's a personal vendetta and it's disapointing to see someone that has no class by ranting and wasting bandwidth on someone else's forum with personal problems that he may have.

I'm glad that I can help out this forum. Again, if anyone has any questions in regarding our products, please fee free to call me or email me or PM me and I will do my best to assist you all. That is why I am here.

I'd like to add my 2 cents in here, as well. I've had the FLT-A2 coilovers and other JIC components for over a year and true to my online "handle", I have put probably more stress on my suspension set-up than most 8 owners. Bottom line: They've held up. I've talked with Ben and Yukio from JIC personally on suspension matters, and have nothing but positive things to relay to you all. So, product quality? Top notch and battle tested. Customer service? Again, top notch and I have the numerous emails and PMs from JIC to back that up.

Remember, I'm just a retail consumer like most folks on here, not a vendor that deals with these companies on a day-to-day basis. If they (JIC) afford ME (yer average joe schmoe drifter) with the kind of service and product that they have, I would say they've earned my loyalty.

Yukio, I was just waitin' for you to respond before I chimed in. As Fanman alluded to, there's always two sides to the story and it is good to hear you (JIC) set the record straight.

Thanks for replying Yukio, i was seriously considering JIC coilovers for my 8, when i get it, and posted on here to see if this was known issue, or a isolated event, the information given by both sides was obviously not the whole story, and wanted to see if people with the set on here knew of such an issue. Thanks for taking the time to reply again, and thanks to everyone else who replied.

Now back to being not sure what coilovers to get... lol
