View Full Version : Supra is coming as early as spring 2006
playdoh43 08-22-2005, 10:26 AM taking a page from Nissan, Supra will be built on the new IS/GS platform as 350Z is build on the G/M platform. This way they will be able to keep cost low. Engine will be 4.0L V6. I expect 330-350hp

Rhawb 08-22-2005, 10:57 AM What da?! RX8 Coupe/convertable in 07?
s13lover 08-22-2005, 11:16 AM What da?! RX8 Coupe/convertable in 07?
I think that may be more likely than a new RX-7. RX-8 variant would probably be cheaper to develop, and Mazda would have to worry about a new 7 living up to the heritage and performance of the old RX-7s.
I'm glad to see that the new Supra with a corporate platform and motor. The car should be able to be marketed in the same price range as the RX-8/350Z. Sure RX-8 sales may go down if that is the case and Mazda doesn't built a coupe version, but at least there will be another affordable rwd Japanese sports car in the market.
Mugatu 08-22-2005, 11:18 AM that list says that the Acura RSX is being redesigned for 2007...i thought Acura was killing the line after this year?
wedge357 08-22-2005, 11:21 AM HP bump likely??? Are we getting this too via flash update or not?
playdoh43 08-22-2005, 11:25 AM HP bump likely??? Are we getting this too via flash update or not?
highly unlikely
TownDrunk 08-22-2005, 11:30 AM Funny.. The first picture I saw when I hit the link was:

I thought, "WTF?! I hope that's not the new Supra." Then I realized it wasn't.
Mickeyblue 08-22-2005, 11:41 AM LOL that piece of junk the new supra!!!
seen a few pics of the supra, if the build quality is any thing like the rest of the range i dont think i will be ditching the RX for one......well ok i might be tempted as it looks amazing!
moete87 08-22-2005, 11:44 AM Are there any pics of the new supra?
playdoh43 08-22-2005, 11:45 AM all the pics you have seen are artist concepts, we wont know what it will look like until October at the tokyo auto show
moete87 08-22-2005, 11:47 AM Ok, sounds good. That show isnt until Oct/Nov..right?
BlueEyes 08-22-2005, 11:47 AM LOL that piece of junk the new supra!!!

Build quality like the rest of the Toyota range? great? you wouldn't look if it had great build quality? weird.
playdoh43 08-22-2005, 11:48 AM with a more powerful engine than the Z, i think it will be as fast as the EVO and STI, but short of C6.
"Shanika" 08-22-2005, 11:52 AM Are there any pics of the new supra?
Could this be it?
Smoker 08-22-2005, 11:57 AM LOL that piece of junk the new supra!!!

Huh? all of the Toyotas from top to bottom has the industry best build quality.
Could this be it?
That picture has been floating around the internet for years.
N8theGr8 08-22-2005, 01:26 PM i hope they keep it wide and low like the last supra......and keep remnance of the tail...that is one hot ride.
yeah that pic is really old, so I doubt it will be exactly like that, but if it is, I like it.
RX-Hachi 08-22-2005, 05:23 PM ^yup, me too. If the new Supra does look like that, I'll give it some very serious consideration.
The Tokyo Auto Show in October is shaping up to be the return of Japan's early '90's near supercars. The GT-R is almost certain to make a showing, a Supra Concept seems likely as well. Still on the fence (or best kept secrets?) are the NSX replacement and RX-7 concept (or some kind of RX coupe). I can't wait for October...
Mikelikes2drive 08-22-2005, 06:25 PM i thought the new supra was going to be like the new lexus lf-a concept???
Gambit 08-22-2005, 06:29 PM no one knows about the new supra
RX-Hachi 08-22-2005, 06:40 PM i thought the new supra was going to be like the new lexus lf-a concept???The Lexus concept is said not to be the next Supra, but a very high end NSX like super car. The whispers around the Supra indicate something more affordable by your average Joe. But nobody really knows.
Mikelikes2drive 08-22-2005, 06:45 PM well wasnt the last supra if you were to calculate inflation into it, have costed 60k+?
Soundave 08-22-2005, 06:54 PM Yah, didn't it rank up there with the old 3rd gen RX7's? Like $40k 10 years ago would be about $60k now?
RX-Hachi 08-22-2005, 08:17 PM Yeah, but the talk about the Toyota super car had it over well over $100K. While the buzz about a possible Supra had it a bit more down to earth, maybe between $30-$60K, who knows.
Cattywampus 08-22-2005, 09:10 PM here's an idea. How about we worry about hp changes and not a convertible that will look like hell. eh. Or how about tunning the 8 with the suspension mods the Shinka has on the GT models. I think that will be just dandy. Back to you regular schedule program.
SSJ 909 08-23-2005, 03:20 AM Could this be it?
I hope not, thats one ugly car, imo
foo77 08-23-2005, 07:12 AM i've seen one before in these forums,but don't remember :o
ps:just remember it was mention with V8
VikingDJ 08-23-2005, 10:41 AM I really hope to see a high powered rx8 2 seat convertible. I sold my RX8 because I really had no use for the two back seats, and I wanted a convertible. It became a fun summer car when I got STI as a daily, and it just couldn't meet my needs anymore. I do miss it though, because it's such a great machine. I'd gladly part with my S2K if a convertible comes out. I like the RX8 more overall then the S2K, but it just didn't cut it for me as a pure fun car. I'll just have to sit back and wait, and start saving. Now that I've gone convertible as a fun car, there's no going back for me, so the only way I'll ever own an RX8 again is if it's available as a roadster. :)
rotary crazy 08-23-2005, 12:07 PM I have a photo that was floting around of the supra but its too large I cant post it, is in a japanese magazine. it looks hot.
Apophis 08-23-2005, 01:01 PM Then there's the Mazda5. What is it, a tall wagon or a small minivan? Toyota, Hyundai Motor Co. and Kia Motor Corp. are eyeing similar vehicles, but General Motors, Ford Motor Co. and the Chrysler group apparently have nothing on their drawing boards.
Um, how about the Ford Freestyle? Chrysler Pacifica? Chrysler PT Cruiser? Chevy HHR?
Or are the US manufacturers making a mistake by branding them as wagon/SUVs instead of wagon/minivans? As if "minivan" isn't the automaker's marketing curse word...
zoom44 08-23-2005, 01:03 PM you havent seen a Mazda5 in person?
BlueEyes 08-23-2005, 01:06 PM I saw one the other day on the highway. I came up behind it and didn't know what it was from a distance. I thought, damn, that thing is really ugly. I figured it was somebody who drove here from mexico or something in some weird mexican car. Nope, it was a mazda.
playdoh43 08-23-2005, 02:22 PM ooooo, sounds exciting. post them
Aoshi Shinomori 08-23-2005, 02:27 PM I think I got spy pictures of it.
The other day I saw a green car, looks just like the picture about. Had tape and camo all over it, interior wasn't finished, and it had equipment inside.
I'll post pictures tonight. Not great quality since they were my 2mp phone, but as soon as I saw it I knew it was the new Supra.
http://img160.imageshack.us/img160/4218/ohnoes2zd.gif (http://imageshack.us)I'm so a-sited :p I really can't wait to see these pictures.
...Did you say your phone had a 2 mega pixel camera?
That is pretty sweet my friend.
playdoh43 08-23-2005, 11:12 PM go home now
Audioslave8 08-24-2005, 12:30 AM Could that be the next supra? I really hope so..
Those pics look like a jaguar XK
playdoh43 08-24-2005, 12:31 AM great job!!!, you should submit these photos to autoweek.com they give u free subscription for it and if they really like it, you can win prizes. you are the man ryan13b.
playdoh43 08-24-2005, 12:35 AM possibly supra, possibly aston martin?
Christianv 08-24-2005, 12:47 AM possibly supra, possibly aston martin?
Jaguar. Looks a lot like the concept XK8 from a few months ago.
playdoh43 08-24-2005, 12:49 AM yeah, i think ure right, it does look jaguarish, its got the dark green jag color too. still, nice job done ryan13b
RX-Hachi 08-24-2005, 02:34 AM Ok here they are.
Sorry for the bad quality, but this definitely looks like the new Supra to me. Plus you can't see it in the pictures, but in the grill there was a circular emblum, the emblum was removed though.
I resized the images to fit them on the forum, but if anybody wants to see the origanals I can email them. They suck just as bad, just bigger though :DI agree with the others, looks much more Jaguar-ish than Supra-like, it doesn't seem to be in the mold of Toyota's current styling trends. Something about it just seems more European. And I don't think the Supra would be far enough along to be running these kinds of test mules.
Really hard to say though, I suppose it's possible it could be a Supra. It is a great spy shot regardless. You should of looked harder for a clue to really tell the make. A lot of cars have round emblems.
Christianv 08-24-2005, 01:00 PM Jag all the way.

RX-Hachi 08-24-2005, 01:20 PM That settles it. It's a proto Jag without a doubt.
Boxcar 08-30-2005, 12:33 AM The Supra was my dream car in HS. Now it's my most anticipated car. If they can keep it between 40-45grand I'm gonna start selling off my orgins.
Gambit 08-30-2005, 08:18 AM Edmunds.com has a little blurb on it....they seem to htink it will be 30ish and may debut at the Tokyo auto show in Oct
playdoh43 08-30-2005, 10:42 AM yeah I expect it to be very competitive price wise with the 350Z. So dont expect it to be like the old J2Z twin turbo Supras, at this price range ull get a reliable and fun sports car with 300+hp naturally asperated. the expensive price was the reason that killed the supra in the first place, Toyota wont do that agian.
AQA101 08-30-2005, 05:13 PM Same here - that pic looks a lot like the new Jaguar XK.
The new Supra will (hopefully) be outside of the 350Z range. I hope Toyota starts a second japanese super sports car period ...
I love my RX-8 and like the 350Z and the S2000, as well as the Evo and the Sti (sort of), but the approach to really attack in the high performance segment happened with the likes of Supra, RX-7, NSX and 3000GT. If one manufacturer starts that race again, the others will follow.

Don't count on it. The money these days is in the sport-sedan segment and the //M3 and the C6 Z06 own the 50-70k range where the Supra, 300ZX, RX-7, etc used to compete. The bar is pretty damn high these days. Closest we may come to seeing an actual super car from Japan for the time being will be the upcoming R35 GT-R.
Hmm, new Supra, new RX-7, Evo 9, R35 GT-R... there's some exciting times a comin'.

I second that, Toyota already have high performance super cars in development, both lexus, the IS460 (yes not 430) and the LFA super car. expect Japan to be competitive with hp again with the 280ps agreement a thing of the past. just dont expect the supra to be a M3 or vette killer. dont forget the number 1 perogative of a company is to make money. Theres a reason why Nissan hasnt put out a twin turbo 350Z with bulletproof internals. Because they dont sell! I also expect anything that will offer super-car performance will be under the Lexus, Acura, Infiniti badges now. the new NSX, skyline GT-R, and the LFA will begin a new era of japanses performance. Hopefully well see a RX7 this october also.
mike1324a 09-06-2005, 09:56 PM i love the supra im glad to hear its back
