Well, I pulled the 8 up in the drive and went inside to let her run abit before shutting her down.... Well, as we are just moving in to a new apartment, I got sidetracked with hanging things and going through boxes. When about 2 HOURS LATER :eek: :mad: I remember she was still running. So I calmy trip over all the boxes on my calm dash to shut her off :rolleyes: . I shut her off and waited to see how long the fans would run. They ran for about 3-5 seconds, then shut-off. I waited to see if they would come back on for another 20 seconds (They did not) before starting her up and taking a gingerly cruise at about 60mph for about 15 minutes to cool her down. Am I the first to do this :o ? The temps then were about 76-81 and she was out of direct sunlight. I also did 2 oil changes within the last 800 miles, of which the second one was actually done this morning :rolleyes: . I am thinking it should be alright, and I will shorten the next change interval, but what do you all think? I know running a boinger at idle is not really hard as long as the oiling/cooling systems are proper, but what about extended idling in a rotary?

Also, the oil in the car now is 5-30 rather than the 5-20. I got a little nervous about the 5-20 in the summer and want to try something new. I will be going to royal purple at the next change. (PLEASE, I know the whole syn in a rotorary, but I am choosing to change, so please lets not debate it :p :D )

the sky is not falling. i have been enjoying my 8 for 30kmiles. no problems.

unless you have been dealing with 115amb temp. for weeks on end . you are probely ok.

It's probably OK. Mazda may have run similar stress-tests during development.

When I took mine in for A/C service a while back, I got it back with 1/4 of the gas gone but no mileage added on the odometer. To me that meant alot of idleing time. My car seems none the worse for wear.

The conditions you described seem very mild, and would be considered a "best case senario" I wouldn't loose too much sleep over it.

Your MPG is going to be crappy at the next fill-up! :eek:

If it was me, I'd change just the oil & leave the filter.

Doesn't sound like engine was overheated or anything. Given the exhaust-heat at idle recall, I'd wonder about that issue. Even though the recall is due to high-rpm idle I wonder what normal idle for 2 hours might do. Have you had the recall yet?

The way my car sucks gas at idle I'm surprised you got 2 hours out of it :)

I'm sure it will be fine, if the fan turned on for only 5 sec after cutting the engine, then the car was not to hot.

I figured all was well, but none the less, I thought I'd consult you guys. No recall yet. The dealer service manager seemed suprised when I asked him if he was active in the recall campaign, but said he had not received shipment of the shields yet. No big deal. If that were a real crissis, cars in Vegas would be exploding rather than just blowing engines!
