RedSheDevil 08-16-2005, 01:44 PM Hey, has anyone checked this out before? Plainfield Cruise Night (http://www.mainstreetplainfield.org/mspevents_cn1.htm)
It's hard to tell if the "custom" cars must be from the 50s and 60s to match the music?!? I may have to run by this tonight to check it out....
How tight would it be if we rolled 10+ 8s down the main drag?!?!? :D :D :D

HELL YEAH! That would be sweet! I'm up for it two Tuesdays from now! :D :D :D
RedSheDevil 08-16-2005, 05:33 PM FYI, I'm just changing the first post to reflect any new info. Alleviates all that scrolling through ...
I added a tentative cruise nite on Tues 8/30! w00t! Um, and anyone who's organized one of these meet things, please feel free to jump in!!
Great... where was this thread when i was still living there??? LOL... have fun people ;)
RedSheDevil 08-16-2005, 10:00 PM Great... where was this thread when i was still living there??? LOL... have fun people ;)
Takes a girl to barge in an organize the troops! BTW, I cleaned the lounge too while I was here :D
: beer anyone? :
BlueRenesis82 08-16-2005, 10:41 PM it would be nice to have more participation on the MW forum, sees like a lot of important info get ignored about track days and such.
RedSheDevil 08-16-2005, 11:18 PM Hey Blue, keep me posted on track days if you want me to post on the front page of this thread ...
BlueRenesis82 08-17-2005, 12:50 AM I'm going to Gingerman with some of the guys from rx7club on the 2nd of September and hitting Road America with the Northwoods Shelby club on the 28th of this month. Also ther are still spots avaliable with the Midwest F body club a the 15th and 16th of October. I will be in attendance at all 3 of those
BlueRenesis82 08-17-2005, 12:51 AM oh and BTW red I love your new avatar
RedSheDevil 08-17-2005, 03:36 PM Hey all, I went and checked out the Plainfield Cruise Night yesterday. Wow, a LOT of cars ... I took pics and will post them later. I have to say tho, I did not have the guts to park in the "special area" without reinforcements... I think en masse, we will be fine. I'm new to this whole car meet thing and didn't want to upset anyone, so if I'm just bein silly...please let me know.
Blue, do you want me to post details on the track day info you posted above? I like my new avatar too, fitting for the windy city eh? Even tho that's not really why it's called that, but semantics. bah!
Anyone else want me to update the first post here with any info, feel free to PM me if I'm not on the ball!!!
BlueRenesis82 08-17-2005, 04:56 PM Yeah, I'll get your specifics on those track days once I get home from work tonight. Also for the car meet thing, gearheads are some of the most openminded cool people to be around. That being said they do not like ricers and/or trash talkers. Its not a big deal to them to have new people unless they are close minded, which is a very small amount.
RedSheDevil 08-18-2005, 11:41 AM Hey folks,
Here are some of the photos I took while wandering around the Cruise Night. Think this seems like a good time? The nice thing is, it's already organized and we would just have to come up with a pre-meet place so we can cruise in as a group. I'm pretty familiar with the area, so I can figure out a good place to meet on Rte 59.
Any thoughts???
RedSheDevil 08-18-2005, 11:42 AM Just a couple more ...
Racewar 08-18-2005, 12:30 PM [QUOTE=RedSheDevil]Hey folks,

I like it! Sounds all good to me. By the way nice pics. Oh and just wanted to let everyone know that I got my rotary cup from Target, but they don't come in silver :(
BlueRenesis82 08-18-2005, 01:50 PM Maybe a little, but I still think it would be fun to go
BlueRenesis82 08-18-2005, 02:30 PM why?
G8rboy 08-18-2005, 02:43 PM I'm just kidding. I'll probably keep the RX-8.
Most of my buds drive bmws and I'm a moderator of a local Euro car forum/club and I love BMWs.
I want something less expensive, like a $5K track car that I can do time attacks (solo I) in without worrying about destroying a $20K car like the RX-8. I might just buy another car for the track, we'll see.
Buy or build-up a spec Miata... probably the most bang for your buck.
BlueRenesis82 08-18-2005, 03:03 PM Just buy an Noble M12gto, those are good track cars!
G8rboy 08-18-2005, 03:04 PM That's what my racer friends keep telling me. Also lots of people have them so it's easy to find competition.
I can barely fit in one and my knee is practically touching the steering wheel. I'm not sure if I could turn my knee in order to heel-and-toe in a miata. :(
Yeah - size can be a problem, but I've seen pretty tall guys fit fine in them when fitted with racing seats. Being just 5'6'', I pretty much can drive anything :D
I wish I would have been able to keep mine... just not enough room for all my toys :)
RedSheDevil 08-18-2005, 03:53 PM Looks like hotrods and muscle cars. Isn't the RX-8 kind out of place with that crowd?
OK, well at least I know I wasn't bein silly about asking if this was "the place" for us.
I say what the hell (besides, there's safety in numbers right?!?!?) I'll give it a shot! I just did NOT have enough guts to do it myself :D
: hiding behind the guys :
RedSheDevil 08-18-2005, 03:55 PM Check out first post on this thread for dates!!!
RedSheDevil 08-18-2005, 04:31 PM Chicago Z is having a meet on August 28th. They are a cool group and would welcome some RX8s. Didn't you say your boyfriend is a member there?
I won't be able to make that day because I might be going to another meet with babes in bikinis washing cars :D
Um, no I don't have a bf !!! But I was with a guy who has a Z ??? Don't ask! :D
I'll be out of town til the 29th, so I'm out too!
RedSheDevil 08-18-2005, 06:08 PM What were you wearing at the meet? I'm trying to remember if I saw you.
LOL, you already posted a pic of me in this thread (http://www.rx8club.com/showthread.php?t=67863) and I said "yep, thats me behind the lambo door" Too funny
RedSheDevil 08-18-2005, 06:25 PM Yep! Tho I wouldnt bet you'd remember me from that pic, my hair looks brown and you can't see my face!!! LOL
BlueRenesis82 08-18-2005, 06:30 PM lambo door? cmon seriously
alnielsen 08-18-2005, 11:06 PM WOOT! Car is out of the shop with the new engine. I'm going to MRR/RA this weekend. Next weekend I will be at JGTCA meet (if i'm not working overtime).
BlueRenesis82 08-18-2005, 11:59 PM Yep! Tho I wouldnt bet you'd remember me from that pic, my hair looks brown and you can't see my face!!! LOL
Looks nice!
RedSheDevil 08-19-2005, 11:02 AM OK folks here's some new info:
Tuesday 9/13 (9pm-11pm or later) at Rock n Roll McDonalds - 600 North Clark, Chicago
This McDonalds is the newly redone flagship of Mickey D's in the city (it's futuristic looking now, you kinda can't miss it). Racewar is heading this one up, so if you have any meet-specific questions, ask him?
Speaking of which, Racewar, I know they used to be really harsh on using the parking lot...are they still? Can we actually meet there?
I'll be there!
RedSheDevil 08-19-2005, 11:03 AM Also, is anyone planning on going to the Plainfield Cruise night on the 30th? I'm going to be out of town til the 29th, so if I have to do some site scouting, I'll have to do it today. Just shout out if you're planning on going ...
BlueRenesis82 08-19-2005, 11:10 AM LOL, accidentall? riiiight
RedSheDevil 08-19-2005, 11:13 AM Okay, just making sure that you weren't the girl in the short skirt. I accidentally saw her panties :)
LOL! I think I was wearing a skirt, but there were a couple chicks there wearing scraps of fabric that I think were supposed to be skirts! Mine was a tiny bit longer!! But who knows ... as long as there is no photographic evidence, it's all good!!!
RedSheDevil 08-19-2005, 12:38 PM I'm game! Get me the details and I'll post it!!!
BlueRenesis82 08-19-2005, 12:41 PM Yeah, actually a weekday might be better for me, depending on what my work schedule is. I would love to meet up with some other 8 owners and exchange war stories
G8rboy 08-19-2005, 12:55 PM Allright, I won't feel guilty then..
So, what about a meet in the Schaumberg area, near the RAM where the Z meet was?
In Schaumberg, Fuddruckers and Qdoba are very car friendly meet places. We could do a weekday meet (just not on a Thursday).
I tried organizing one but only one other RX8 guy showed up.
There is also a web forum www.rx8group.com for Chicago 8 owners. They've had a few meets but they don't meet often and the forum is kinda lifeless and postless.
Schaumburg area works great for me... especially if it's after work on a weekday. The weekends are so damned busy for me...
RedSheDevil 08-22-2005, 12:31 PM Hey folks!
Here's some info on our first meet!
I scoped the area before leaving town and came up with a good (?) place to meet.
Meet at 6pm
NABBYS RESTAURANT
902 N MICHIGAN ST (corner of Michigan and Rte 59 just south of the railroad underpass on the East side of the street)
PLAINFIELD, IL
60544-1945
(815) 436-7502
Map here (http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?country=US&addtohistory=&formtype=address&searchtype=address&cat=&address=902%20N%20Michigan%20St&city=Plainfield&state=IL&zipcode=60544%2d1945&searchtab=home)
BlueRenesis82 08-22-2005, 01:28 PM What time?
RedSheDevil 08-22-2005, 01:43 PM Sorry I posted the time in the first post only. I was thinkin 6? this way people will have enough time to get off work and get there??? the cruise is officially from 5 to 9 I think. Any suggestions?
BlueRenesis82 08-22-2005, 01:56 PM I will be unable to attend, I don't get out of work until 9. :(
RedSheDevil 08-22-2005, 07:20 PM don't make me go alone ... :(
BlueRenesis82 08-22-2005, 07:31 PM yeah, red has done some serious work for us, and i think she deserves a round of applause!
:claps:
RedSheDevil 08-22-2005, 07:52 PM LOL, it's ok! I threw out the Plainfield thing when I couldn't think of anywhere else to meet. I'll wait and see if anyone else is goin.... :D
Dr. Rx 08-22-2005, 08:28 PM I would like to go, but I work until 10pm in Chicago....so not this time.
BlueRenesis82 08-22-2005, 10:36 PM fvck, we are just striking out with schedules!
alnielsen 08-23-2005, 08:30 AM If it would help, the Village of Lombard has cruise nites Saturdays 6-10 pm. This would be abit closer for the people from the northern burbs. I would rather meetup with the JGTCA people on Saturdays.
RedSheDevil 08-24-2005, 10:30 AM OK, I'm gonna suspend the meet for next Tuesday UNLESS some other peeps are going. It's totally cool, let's find a better place for us to meet that won't be so far for everyone.
Lombard works for me; Saturdays are also the JGTCA meets (northern burbs). Hell, I don't care where/when we meet, I just like to drive the SheDevil!!! :D
BlueRenesis82 08-24-2005, 12:21 PM is there anyone planning on joining me at the track anytime soon?
RedSheDevil 08-24-2005, 01:36 PM is there anyone planning on joining me at the track anytime soon?
MEMEMEMEMEMEMEME!!! : jumping up and down raising hand really really high :
BlueRenesis82 08-24-2005, 01:40 PM Did we go over the helmet needs already? Also you might want to bring a clean set of underwear, in case I decided to go off roading again
RedSheDevil 08-24-2005, 01:43 PM Did we go over the helmet needs already? Also you might want to bring a clean set of underwear, in case I decided to go off roading again
Yeah, but I don't remember if it was ok to use a motorcycle helmet or not ...
Undies, shmundies ... you underestimate my sense of adventure  ;) :D
BlueRenesis82 08-24-2005, 01:44 PM wowsers, ok then. Well you could bring a moto helmet if u wanted, as long as its fairly recent. Depending upon if you catch the bug or not, then it might be a bad idea to get a race helmet. Really does a number on yer hair tho, highly reccomend bringing a hat :)
Racewar 08-24-2005, 02:39 PM OK, I'm gonna suspend the meet for next Tuesday UNLESS some other peeps are going. It's totally cool, let's find a better place for us to meet that won't be so far for everyone.
Lombard works for me; Saturdays are also the JGTCA meets (northern burbs). Hell, I don't care where/when we meet, I just like to drive the SheDevil!!! :D
I'm still up for it! I may just go anyways and bring "Silver" along with me.
:D
BlueRenesis82 08-24-2005, 02:47 PM you have a silver? I'm sure you have full insurance right?
BlueRenesis82 08-24-2005, 02:49 PM What time on sunday?
RedSheDevil 08-24-2005, 03:09 PM Another interested in a car wash on Sunday?
How about a bikini car wash with women in bikinis washing your car? How about beer, BBQ and a DJ spinning some trance/techno music as well?
I can post some details if anyone is interested. It's with a Euro car meet but everyone is welcome.
There is also another Chicago Z meet on Sunday. Again RX8s are welcome there too.
I'm still in NC til Monday, cuz you KNOW I'm all for a bikini car wash. You are talking guys in speedos, right???? :D
RedSheDevil 08-24-2005, 03:10 PM you have a silver? I'm sure you have full insurance right?
Ah, the curse of Sunlight Silver ... drive safely!!!
RedSheDevil 08-24-2005, 03:11 PM I'm still up for it! I may just go anyways and bring "Silver" along with me.
:D
So should I unsuspend the meet in the first post? Anyone else goin??
BlueRenesis82 08-24-2005, 03:15 PM i thought chicks didnt like teh speedo?
alnielsen 08-24-2005, 04:29 PM I'm still up for it! I may just go anyways and bring "Silver" along with me.
:D
Hi Ho Silver, Away!
BlueRenesis82 08-24-2005, 04:42 PM <groans>
BlueRenesis82 08-24-2005, 05:45 PM I'm running with the Shelby Club at RA this Sunday, so I will not be in attendance sadly. However if anyone is going you should take pics!
RedSheDevil 08-25-2005, 02:28 PM *BUMP*
C'mon there have to be more people around the Chicago area. I see you drivin around all the time!!! :D
And this thread is not limited only to people in Chicago, but to anyone who is interested in meeting up near the Chicagoland area (we've already got some Wisconsin-ites)
BlueRenesis82 08-25-2005, 08:22 PM bwhahahahhaha, thanks mach, that makes me feel so much less loose in the rear!
:)
yandrs 08-25-2005, 08:30 PM Unfortunately mine is STILL at the dealership being fixed (3 weeks and counting). Keep posting and I'll join in when I can.
alnielsen 08-25-2005, 09:19 PM Unfortunately mine is STILL at the dealership being fixed (3 weeks and counting). Keep posting and I'll join in when I can.
Whats up? I haven't found a post where you said what is wrong.
yandrs 08-25-2005, 09:44 PM Originally posted back on a Shinka page I believe. There were some things that needed to be fixed when I purchased the car.
The Short story:
My wife and I went over it with a fine tooth comb and came up with some "cosmetic" items for them to correct. Stop here or continue to.......
The Long Story:
When I was taking delivery, the salesman comes up and says "I need to show you this". There was a paint chip above the passenger rear wheel; about the size of your pinky fingernail. I test drove the car and it wasn't there that morning.
They said is was a "paint flaw or bubble". I'm convinced soemone "knocked" it by acident while they were prepping it (a car door, a tool, something). So they now need to repaint it.
Looking over the car in GREAT detail I come up with:
1) blue shipping tape/glue still on the doors
2) a "bubble" on the passenger b pillar (think air bubble under wallpaper that won't go away.
3) Some general exterior cleaning/buffing on the hood in the grooves for the rotary indent
4) a few small "scratches" on the driver's seat. The vertical, door facing side. No biggie excpet you can see as soon as you open the door.
For $30k+ I expect the thing off the lot to be right.
The cleaning was quick, but they had to paint it twice because they didn't like it the first time (whole rear quarter panel). They had to order a replacement for the b pillar which was installed yesterday. Finally, they have to get Mazda NA to look at the seat for warrenty; they may replace the whole seat. Due to vacations and scheduling, they aren't looking at it until Monday.
I left my car with them while I was on vacation thinking "surely after 2 weeks they can get all this done". What was I thinking? I still have my Mazda buying survey and I toss that out occasionally. Looking like 4 weeks without the batmobile....
RedSheDevil 08-25-2005, 10:14 PM Wow, that really blows dude. Just out of curiosity, where did you buy it?
Hope the batmobile is back in commission soon!!!
yandrs 08-25-2005, 11:16 PM Liberty Auto City in Libertyville. It's a bit of a haul from Algonquin. However, the price was right (internet sales), I could test drive MY Shinka and it was an easy deal. It's not like the dealer is fighting me on stuff; we both agree it needs to be done right. I'd just like them to pick up the pace.

I'll let you know when it's back and we can hook up since we're "accross the street" from each other. I'll know more Monday.

Sweet deal, hope to see you there!
:D
JB_Rotary 08-29-2005, 01:17 PM So I was at a Euro meet last night and Schaumberg and there was someone with a new black RX-8 hanging with the S2000 crowd.
S2000 crowd was impressive. They have a large following in the area. Probably had over 20 cars at their meet. It would be nice to see the RX-8 crowd get organized and motivated to meet up...
Yeah that was me. A friend of mine owns an S2000 so he invited me along. Suprisingly they really liked my car and were very cool to hang out with. Most of them are like me in that they just like cars regaurdless of make and model. I also just got back from a Windy City Miata Club autocross at Tire Rack which was a blast. I finally got to really let loose on the car and man it was lots of fun.
BlueRenesis82 08-29-2005, 01:55 PM hey mach did you get those pics that I wanted? :D

BlueRenesis82 08-30-2005, 12:09 PM pics? details?
what kinds of cars? Shelby Cobras?
The run group I was in and the majority of the cars there were Mustangs. Lots of Boss 302's and Shelby GT's. There were 2 Rousch prepped cars there, a stage 2 and a stage 3, I'm not sure what they were running as far as HP goes. The only cars that were able to pass me were the 2 Rousch cars and a caged Mustang hatch on R-comps, also there were 2 Ford GT's there. I was able to keep up with another 05 GT vert on R-comps, and realistically they should have waved me by. I was on his door handle coming down into 5 and I didnt get a wave or a flag  But an Elise on Hoosiers felt my wrath, as well as a '67 fastback with a lot of mods. There were a lot of v8 owners that felt burned at the end of the day, thats for sure.
Plus Damian was there with the Killer Bee, so it was great to be able to watch him run in race form. Both of us will be at the F-body track weekend in October if you want to come! Also the great Howard Coleman of race fame was there to talk and give tips to us rotards(i.e. me)

RedSheDevil 08-30-2005, 12:48 PM Would anyone be interested in started our own website for Chicago area RX-8 members?
Someone I know tried to start up a chicago area track forum (chicagosportscar.net) but it basically failed and he has webspace and vbulletin license that we might be able to use for free.
I don't know if there are enough Chicago people to warrant our own space, but it might be fun to give it a shot. Of course, we'd have to get RedSheDevil as a moderator if we create something.
Or perhaps, we should do a few meets and see how dedicated the core group that RedSheDevil has rounded up here is.
LOL, me as mod... now THAT is funny. You must not visit the lounge much ... I'd end up banning myself!! :D
I was waiting for a few peeps to reply about the email group, but it seems they might not be interested. Any suggestions on the best way to get this info out? Excel, Word, pdf??? I can create it in any of them, just want to make it easy for everyone to open.
RedSheDevil 08-30-2005, 12:57 PM This weeks project.
Let's create a special RX-8 Club Chicago logo that we can all photoshop into our signature files to show our unity.
We could also change our user title to RX-8 Club Chicago or change our location to RX-8 Club Chicago.
Thoughts?
What should we call our little group here? Suggestions?
Damn, just don't ask me to design a logo right away. I'm still working on The Ladies w 8s logo!! I think the subforum idea is great tho!!! Lemme see if I can get that done ...
RedSheDevil 08-30-2005, 12:59 PM If we did Windy City Rotaries we could include RX7s and such .... ???

any suggestions?
I Like it! I would go with "RX-8 Club Chicago" or "Chicagoland Rotories" something like that. lol. It would be nice to have our own logo though. :)
BlueRenesis82 08-30-2005, 01:46 PM RCC was the Rotary Club of Chicago, they have a spot in the MW forum over at the 7club. But the club is basically defunct, and they dont really run anything. If we could get something going we might be able to pick up some of their more active members.
BTW the fbody event is the 15th & 16th of October. They have a driving seminar on that Friday IIRC if you havent run the course yet and would like some help. They also have awesome instructors if you want someone to ride with you. Also the help is free, so dont hesitate to ask!
BlueRenesis82 08-30-2005, 02:37 PM Hey Blue, Are you joining NASA? They will run RA at least once next year.
I just saw your tire pressure quote in your sig? What tire pressures were you running? Didn't I suggest to you that 40 psi was on the high side? ;)
Yeah, I think I will. (join NASA)
Also you were right about the pressure, it almost bit me too. My rear got loose coming down in 5 at ~115. That was SCARY. I backed off during that session and let out a ton of air on Howard's reccomendation. I dropped down to 33 front and 29 rear and it was like driving a different car. Totally awesome!
BlueRenesis82 08-30-2005, 03:20 PM It didnt look like I was getting any tire roll, but what would I be looking for?
Just had a lot of small pieces of tire inside the lip of the wheels. (and they were BLACK with dust)
RedSheDevil 08-30-2005, 04:00 PM Info added to first post!! :D
BlueRenesis82 08-30-2005, 04:07 PM You'd look for scuff marks/warn tread on the sidewall of the tire. Autocrosses put white shoepolish on their tires to check for rollovers. You can tell how far the tire is rolling over by seeing how much shoe polish rubbed off.
The tire bits were proabably just clag that you picked up from people's R comps on the track.
I was checking the tires as I came off the track and scrubbed area wasnt very far into the sidewall. is that the same thing? Also its normal to have little bits of melted/torn off rubber stuck to the tread blocks? I guess I never noticed that before...
yandrs 08-30-2005, 05:14 PM FINALLY! Got my Shinka back from the dealer after they mucked about with it on "I owes" on the original purchase for 3 weeks. Dang, they had it longer than I did.
So now to scour the forum for tips on cleaning, rotor rust, etc. I'm getting ready to take the Batmobile out for a spin.
Hey Gator, let me know when you want to hook up!
BlueRenesis82 08-30-2005, 05:20 PM ^w00t! go have some fun!
BlueRenesis82 08-30-2005, 05:54 PM there are little nicks in the blocks, but nothing bigger than a very small pebble. about the size of a letter here. A<----like that. No big chunks. In the upper classes I thought there were a decent amount of people running R's.
alnielsen 08-30-2005, 05:59 PM Or maybe, perhaps it is possible that we can get the RX8 club admins to create a chicago area subforum just for us. Chicago is the third largest city in the US and the best city in the US so maybe we can get our own subforum :D .
The 7's tried to do that over at RX7Club and was shot down. But hay, go for it!
BlueRenesis82 08-30-2005, 06:48 PM Oh yeah, Machan, I need you to show me how to heel-toe. I can't do it. HELP plz!
BlueRenesis82 08-30-2005, 07:40 PM ahhhh, makes sense now. Time to try with my thin soled shoes!
LostSailor 08-30-2005, 08:02 PM Munster, IN (near hammond/gary) But I work in Downers Grove. Just picked up my new RX-8 at the dealer in Olympia fields last Wednesday (August 24th) And I love it. I cannot believe how many people come up and talk to you and ask you so many questions and think that I paid over 50 g's for the car. It is great.

Not yet, I do so much travel that I've really only driven it for 3 days. When I get home (either thursday or friday) I'll post some pics. It's a sunlit silver GT. So I like the idea of meeting up but am sorta shy because I'm totally new to this rotary engine concept and have only a stock car (so far) I would like to add a carputer to it ... possibly in the spring. For winter tires what do ya'll recommend? I commute like 50 miles each way to work so snow tires are a definate for me. If there is a meeting and I'm in town (and it's not to late at night cause I leave for work at 5:30am) I'll try and be there (if welcomed). :)
BlueRenesis82 08-30-2005, 08:49 PM Machan how do you know what revs to match at? just practice?
Racewar 08-30-2005, 11:01 PM First official Chicagoland meet took place today in Plainfield. Yeah it was small, but it holds to a promising future. RedSheDevil, Al, and myself Racewar were in attendence and took a few night shots after looking at the classic cars. And were all looking foward to meeting more of you soon! :D

Sorry I missed it guys, but I didn't get mine back from the dealer soon enough to make it. Let's see, 1 black 1, silver, 1 red. Looks like you still have room for a Shinka! ;)

Damn dude, I had no idea you possessed those powers!!! :D
BlueRenesis82 08-31-2005, 01:55 AM RA in the spring Mach? There is still an event left!
BlueRenesis82 08-31-2005, 09:43 AM I just tap the brakes to settle the rear for grip, I'm WOT thru the kink in 4th, prob going about ~90. Exiting the carousel aiming for the blacktop I'm at the top of third, just like you.
alnielsen 08-31-2005, 09:55 AM Damn dude, I had no idea you possessed those powers!!! :D
I just don't talk about those things. Goverment secrets and all. Dept of Homeland Security.
Things to do:
Delete offending Picture
Erase from memory of all viewers. :D
BlueRenesis82 08-31-2005, 10:02 AM well, this past weekend I was up to 115 or so on the front straight, I was actually faster by a couple mph in the rear straigh going into 5. everyone wants to follow the road rather than just taking a straight line thru. Lap traffic was slowing me up IIRC.
BlueRenesis82 08-31-2005, 10:04 AM May I be the first to say that this thread is
The best thread EVAR!

alnielsen 08-31-2005, 10:12 AM Hi Alan,
I'm going to Grattan in 2 weeks, any more tips???
In the other thread, I gave all I could think of about driving the track. Cann't think of anything else. I will post a picture of me racing the RX7, exiting turn 3, when I get home tonite.
Allen
Edit: First Picture it Gratten (85 GSL-SE w/13B), Second is RA entering Turn 5 (82 GS/w 12A) and Third is Michigan International Raceway (85 GSL-SE w/13B).
alnielsen 08-31-2005, 10:29 AM well, this past weekend I was up to 115 or so on the front straight, I was actually faster by a couple mph in the rear straigh going into 5. everyone wants to follow the road rather than just taking a straight line thru. Lap traffic was slowing me up IIRC.
You should have been able to hit 130 before breaking for turn 12. In the RX7, I used to hit 115-120 at the Kink. It is over a mile between turns 9 and 12 which is the next break point. I would exit the Carousel, holding my shift to 4th( on a 5 speed trans), at about 95.
BlueRenesis82 08-31-2005, 10:47 AM well in that case I still have a LOT of work I need to do with my braking points and exit speeds.
BlueRenesis82 08-31-2005, 11:24 AM well, gotta get faster! Next year I think I'll get a set of RT-615 Falkens and a track set of wheels, maybe do coilovers. Dammit, I need a bigger track budget!
RedSheDevil 08-31-2005, 12:30 PM I'm an excellent driver. Dad let's me drive slow on the driveway every Saturday.
:D
BlueRenesis82 08-31-2005, 12:41 PM LOL, red, im sure you have excellent driving skills.
BlueRenesis82 08-31-2005, 05:17 PM You don't need me to tell you that all you need to go faster is more seat time. Spend the money on HPDEs rather than mods. Although you will probably need tires eventually.
How much have you run with instructors at RA?
I had an instructor with me for 2 full days riding on me for every lap. It makes a big difference having someone with you to tell you where you are f***ing up.
Pretty much the same here, I had one for pretty much the whole Fbody thing before, and it did make a huge difference. I'm gonna concentrate on my shifting the next time I head up there, that and enter/exit speeds.
alnielsen 08-31-2005, 07:25 PM I'm an excellent driver.
:D
Thats what Rainman said. :D
alnielsen 08-31-2005, 07:30 PM ^ you're fast!!
Have you run it with the RX-8 yet?
I was hitting about 123 or maybe a little more before turn 1 and the same before turn 5 and turn 12. I was running with the bend (no kink) so that might have slowed me down from 9-12. I was also usually passing slower cars on that stretch because I would run up on people from 8 to 9 and the first passing zone was after the kink.
I was in a novice group and there were some slowpokes in my run group.
I should be quicker next time out. That was also my first time on the track.
Someone said I might be able to hit 130mph on the straight at Grattan? What do you think?
Because of the Warrenty thing, I admit to nothing here except my experiences with the RX7. I will answer the first question. No, I haven't taken the 8 around RA. I only went there as a paying spectator. And that was weird having to pay to get in the track. I haven't had to do that since 1978. PM, Email or talk to me later.

Added!!! Wow, we're getting busy!!! w00t!
RedSheDevil 09-01-2005, 11:21 AM According to this thread, that RC3 is dead.
http://www.rx7club.com/showthread.php?t=444256&page=9&pp=15&highlight=RC3
Should we try to resurrect it? That Christian guy sounds like he is handing over the keys. We could recruit a bunch of RX-7 guys in.
Like I said, I'm know someone with free webspace and V vulletin license that we could use (at least for the next year).
We could set up a new RC3 website and include RX7 and RX8 folks.
I'm also a supermoderator for another local club so I have some experience running the software and organizing things.
What do you all think?
Machan, you should talk to alnielsen. He knows Christian and was part of the club (I think, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong). Tho do you really think we need another forum? I've put in a request for a subforum here already. We'll see what the mods say.....Zoom, where are ya? Still working on that ridiculous post count issue? :D
BlueRenesis82 09-01-2005, 11:22 AM I'm down. I can bring my sense of humor!11!!!11!!!numper 65!
BlueRenesis82 09-01-2005, 01:32 PM I would be happy to help with anything/everything that I can help out with.
BlueRenesis82 09-01-2005, 02:33 PM Yeah, some kind of neat stamp that we all can use. Thats a really good idea Mach
alnielsen 09-01-2005, 04:39 PM You know, the more I'm thinking about this, the more I think we don't need our own webspace.
Think about Chicagosportscar.net. We had probably 50 members there and didn't have enough posts and contents to keep it alive. You and I had more posts than most of the other members in fact.
Here on RX-8 Club there is enough content to get everybody logged in every day. And if we keep most of our posts in this thread, it is easy for people to see what's going on with one click of their mouse. Of course it we had a Chicago sub-forum that would be even better although I don't mind post whoring it up in this thread.
Perhaps, if it gets too big we can have RedSheDevil create a new one each month...
We still need a logo or something for our sigs or avatars :)
We could get the logo from the old RC3 splash page. It was a picture in blue (?) of the chicago skyline.
Why reinvent the wheel.
BlueRenesis82 09-01-2005, 04:41 PM you have it?
alnielsen 09-01-2005, 04:54 PM you have it?
No, but the 7 guys would to have it somewhere. Hell they built the site. They have the domain name. We would need that also.
The reason I think we should have our own website rather than use RX8club is, It is a rotory club not exclucive to the RX8. This is the same argument I had with the 7's. Someday, hopefully, there will be RX9's, RX10's, etc. and they won't want to be going to the RX8Club to find out what is happening around Chicago. The Tri-State area around Chicago is big enought to support a club. I've also been thinking about fund raising. We could use CafePress to generate funds for misc. expences such as running a website. And also sponsor ship/loaned space at a location such as A-Spec or DriftCity
alnielsen 09-01-2005, 05:10 PM More Random Thoughts:
With a secure board, we could share real names, IM names, email addresses, have a place to share photos, place to store avatars......
There are other good reasons I cann't think of at the moment.
BlueRenesis82 09-01-2005, 05:17 PM yea, the mazda guys wouldnt have an open forum to check our shit out.
I agree with alnielsen completely
RedSheDevil 09-01-2005, 05:17 PM When I go in for my fuel tank explosion, er, um I mean recall work next week I was gonna ask the dealership if they wanted to give away any stuff. Guy321 did this at his dealership and got hats, shirts, and other stuff.
As far as creating another forum, it's taking a lot of time just to keep this board and email list updated. I'm not complaining by any means, but whoever is going to take this on had better have a lot of time to devote or it will fall by the wayside liek the others.
BlueRenesis82 09-01-2005, 05:28 PM i thought I posted a pic of the bracket?

RedSheDevil 09-01-2005, 09:52 PM Hey Machan, any more interest in the Schaumburg meet?
BTW, my parents think I'm either 1) nuts, 2) made up a whole bunch of "imaginary car people" to hang out with, or 3) both! :D

I can't.....you're shapeshifting!!! Somehow I don't think this will help my case :D
yandrs 09-01-2005, 10:13 PM Given the price of gas  , Schaumburg would be closer and more doable. I travel nationaly for work, but I'm going to be "sequestered" downtown Sept 12-16. So if the Rock 'n Roll McDonalds could be an option that week, I'm in!
BlueRenesis82 09-01-2005, 10:19 PM lol, shapeshifting people will NOT help you in this argument!

You are in luck! Rock and Roll is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept 13th! Check the first post in this thread (it's the only one I update regularly) ...
RedSheDevil 09-01-2005, 10:39 PM Check out the IL Spotted Thread if you're interested in an I SAW YOU flyer available to print out. There's a sample over there...just PM/email me if you want a pdf file.
BlueRenesis82 09-01-2005, 11:16 PM schweet. I'll take some with me the next time I go out

BTW, my parents think I'm either 1) nuts, 2) made up a whole bunch of "imaginary car people" to hang out with, or 3) both! :D
Sure, Let's do Thursday Night at Fuddruckers in Schaumberg.
When:
Thursday, September 15th
Where:
Fuddruckers
436 E. Golf Road, Schaumburg, IL 60194
Phone: 847-519-9390
Time:
7:30 pm
Best place to park is the parking lot on the South Side next to Golf Road. Back into the spots so we can do a nice photoshoot :)
If another car club is there first, then the alternate parking spots are on the north side in the big parking lot of the adjacent shopping center.
After dinner, we can cruise over to Streets of Woodfield for coffee or icecream or something.
Red: Please move to front. Who is in?
EDIT: My euro club will also be out that night but at another place so if anyone is interested we could cruise by them wherever they are.
And for those north and east, let's cruise home together. Blue is in brew city and i'm northshore so we can cruise back. The offramp between the interstate by Streets and I-90 has 3 nice sweeping turns in it that another RX-8 owner would love.
BlueRenesis82 09-02-2005, 01:35 AM if it was the 15th i would be down. fvcking work
Matt RX8 09-02-2005, 01:47 AM if it was the 15th i would be down. fvcking work
It is the 15th. Are you nuts :)
And you can hear all my stories from Grattan.

You just changed it!!! bwahahahahahah! Now I have to go back and change the first post AGAIN :D
RedSheDevil 09-02-2005, 01:54 AM BTW, I'm in! AND I'm in for the 13th at Rock n Roll ... Hope gas prices go down before then! ;)
Matt RX8 09-02-2005, 01:57 AM I took the main straight in 4th. Turn 1 could be taken in 3rd. 2 is a 2nd gear corner. Shifting back into 3rd exiting 3. Back into 2nd for 5. 3rd exiting 8. 2nd for 10 and 3rd when exiting 10. Hang your inside tire deep off the track for 11 & 12. Much as you see the F1 cars do with the rumble strips on tight tracks. It will improve your exit speed.
Then again, I am going from memory and I could be wrong. I've had 4 road races and 1 lapping day at that track.
Al, I was talking to some BMW guys about your track notes and everything made sense. My friend has a 325 which has similar torque to our cars and some mods that make about 190 hp to the wheels.
The only thing that I wanted to verify is that you are saying to stay in 2nd gear from 5 all the way until the exit of 8. My friend thought 8 might be a third gear corner.
And 120mph on the front straight 10-11-12-1?
Matt RX8 09-02-2005, 02:00 AM BTW, I'm in! AND I'm in for the 13th at Rock n Roll ... Hope gas prices go down before then! ;)
I'm out for the 13th (wife constraint of one meet per week). Hope it's ok to have 2 meets in one week. I thought we should let BlueRenesis in on the fun.
BlueRenesis82 09-02-2005, 09:47 AM well, in that case I will be there
alnielsen 09-02-2005, 09:57 AM Al, I was talking to some BMW guys about your track notes and everything made sense. My friend has a 325 which has similar torque to our cars and some mods that make about 190 hp to the wheels.

Let me put it this way, a RX8 should be able to hit 117-119 before braking into turn 1. That would be with OEM tires. And yes, you would need to get into third gear before breaking for turn 8. Turn 8 is like a 120 degree blind corner. The track seems to be wider at the exit.
I would like to go back with the RX8 /w the Falkon tires, but I would be worried about the warrenty thing.
Matt RX8 09-02-2005, 10:08 AM well, in that case I will be there
For the September 15th, meet.
If you want to meet up on the way down, let me know.
I live near the Lake Forest Oasis on I-94. I could meet you there on the southbound side and we could cruise to the meet together if you want.

So when do I make the 2-3 upshift? After exiting turn 7?

I was thinking that you could give me GPS coordinates but I didn't get the nav system to save weight...
RedSheDevil 09-02-2005, 02:46 PM Who got banned? For what reason? How did you find out?
Because I am a lounge lizard, I saw a couple threads. So far the ones I saw were Truemagellen and jsh1120 for fighting in the hurricane thread--3 day ban. Boohoo, I like True...
124 spider and Speed-ER Doc got SEVEN day bans  Doc and I have locked horns b4 (never in a bad way tho)
97zimmer got his 'tar removed :D
A mod changed one of my thread's titles ... but that's ok by me. *PLEASE DONT BAN ME* see how easy-going I am? ;)
Those are the only ones I saw ... I'm sure there will be more!

Note to self:
Remove stainless steel coffee mug from beneath passenger seat. It's been driving me nuts all week when I go through the twisties.
Tomorrow I won't cruise. My wife thinks all the car stuff is pretty immature and silly. Imagine what she would think if I took her on one of the cruises. ;)
