View Full Version : How often do you floor it?
No More Oldsmobiles 08-09-2005, 08:34 PM Let's see how people drive their RX-8s. How often do you go WOT?
This poll assumes you're driving an RX-8, so if you're not, post your car, too.
Speed-ER doc 08-10-2005, 08:48 AM WOT is too fast and too loud. I give her a few little blips every day though. :)
rx8wannahave 08-10-2005, 09:43 AM Yeah...me too, I don't go WOT...but I do take her to 7.5K at least once a day after the light turns green.
guy321 08-10-2005, 09:46 AM Oh hush!

Gambit 08-10-2005, 10:19 AM I usually shift between 5 and 6....but sometimes she just wants to run
wedge357 08-10-2005, 10:41 AM Guys, I think the question only relates to completely taking the engine to redline via WOT. 7.5k RPM does not count :D
I blip it at least once a day but sometime up to several times depending on my mood. I chose once/day on the poll because that's how I usually do it.
Remember, that you need to practically mash the pedal down (WOT) to clear/avoid carbon buildup in the renesis engine. Bringing the RPMs up slowly until it gets there will not do the trick. So for you grandmas out there tie a lead brick around your shoe and just let loose :D
ZoomZoomH 08-10-2005, 10:43 AM you can literally see the fuel needle drop as you mash the gas pedal :o
WOT at LEAST once a drive.
TRU681 08-10-2005, 04:26 PM Only when provoked or encouraged by alcohol in my system., other than that I rarely redline it. I almost always shift around 3k-3.5k.

Right. This is about flooring it. Redlining it doesn't count. I'm talking about pedal all the way down.
Anyone need to reconsider their votes?
TRU681 08-10-2005, 05:25 PM ^^^ grandma :D
:D :D :D :o , I do drive fast but I just dont rev that high that much. The gas mileage has something to do with me not reving that high, only getting around 12-14 per gallon on city & about 18-20 if its all highway.

I may hit the rev limiter a couple times a week but WOT isn't necessary or wise most of the time.
Im_DANomite 08-10-2005, 06:19 PM i don't ever let off the gas. power shift all the time. i even left foot brake.
JeRKy 8 Owner 08-15-2005, 02:25 PM I'm sorry. Something just doesn't feel right when you keep this car below 9000 RPM in 1st and 2nd gears for an entire car ride. Yes, even during a 2 minute trip to the liquor store you should at least be redlining 1st. What's the matter with you people?
Oh yea...there are two things I forgot about....called laws and bullshit gas prices.

All responses to the poll are hypothetical and does not, in any way, imply that said poll participants have operated their vehicles beyond what is considered prudent and lawful.
:D

Your transmition will last 2 years (not flaiming).
Just rev match at 7500 RPM (about right for next gear if your redlining) its a lot more fun and not as damaging to your tranny.
EsCoBaR1 08-15-2005, 10:16 PM Havnt "FLOORED" it yet, my car is a brand new virgin im gon wait for awhile till i actually floor it.....yea i know i must be a grandma too but i dont really give a Sh**
KYLiquid 08-16-2005, 08:26 AM I redline line the car (shift at 9k) at least 6 times a day. I know that cause on my way to work I run gears 1, 2 and 3 to 9k getting on the freeway in the morning and again in the afternoon. Then there is the weekend.....ohhh how I long for the weekend. Half the cars time is spend WOT from 6k-9k rpm...muhahah. It helps clear the 'spider webs' (weekday trafic jams) out of the motor. Plus if im not getting into high rpm Im not getting the fuel systems cleaner into all the injectors.
IMO : You really need to redline the car with WOT at least once a day to keep it in tip top shape. I think of it like this...if your a pro athlete, lets say your a runner. Do you walk around all the time, at a slow pace and then run only when you really have to (merge into trafic, go to a track day...ect) hell no....you spend at least part of every day running, pushing yourself, making sure your in the best shape you can be, you might not 'have' to run every day, but you do so that you know everything is in sync and working as it should.
BlueRenesis82 08-16-2005, 08:21 PM Track time owns j00!
xpixieshadowx 09-01-2005, 10:55 PM im always driving my 8 hard, I guess I shouldnt do that all the time though lol
Revolver 09-25-2005, 12:57 AM One of the central appeals of this car is the way it revs cleanly to redline.
There's plenty of cars out there that will blow you away for power so why deny yourself the pleasure of revving to redline with your foot flat.
Once it is properly warmed up I floor mine every time I drive it. :D :D
NgoRX8 09-25-2005, 01:12 AM Umm... I try to floor it everyday.
StealthFox 10-17-2005, 01:59 AM this sort of doesn't work for people that have it as a second car, while not the majority, there is still a fair amount.
for me once a week but it only gets driven once a week anyway. so i suppose if i daily drove it it would be once a day...
msrecant 10-25-2005, 05:02 PM I once read a post from a Miata owner who said his gas pedal had two positions: all the way up and all the way down.
Seems a reasonable way to drive.
StealthFox 10-25-2005, 05:48 PM lol reasonable if you live out in the boonies
