Something funny happened on the way to the beach and back this weekend. On my entire road trip (about 2.5 hour drive from Baltimore to Dewey Beach, Delaware), I did not see another RX-8 on the road. Figured I would, but alas I did not...

Figured I should start a forum for spotting other RX-8s on the road. So far, in owning this car for a little over a month, I have seen a grand total of 3 other RX-8s.

Since I haven't seen any in the past couple of weeks, I cannot report that I saw one recently. But if you do, here is the post for NE folks to mention it.

May I suggest the following, if you see another RX-8 on the road, tell the following and see if you saw another RX-8 NE owner.

I saw a (fill in color) RX-8 with (any extras you noticed) (driving/parked) (approximate location and direction if applicable) at (approximate date and time).

If it turns out that you were spotted, mention it if you like.

Here is an example:

Let's say I was spotted driving this morning by you. You may write:

I saw a silver RX-8 with a spolier and areo flares with a UM license plate holder driving north on US1 near Route 24 in Bel Air MD on July 8, 2005 at 8:30 am.

Same thing happened with us on our trip from NC to NY. Not a single rotary spotting in the entire week we were on the road. Night-time spotting is a little difficult, and maybe some slipped by unnoticed, but for all of the daytime driving we did, not a one.

Saw a Titanium Gray one, coming in the opposite direction, yesterday (8/7) around 5pm in the Roxboro NC area. We were coming back from the VIR field trip.

Should I post every time the guy down the street drives by in his white one? Hehe :p

Friday night in AC I saw a silver Rx-8 and I'm pretty sure I saw a chrome gas tank cover too. I couldnt' catch up to see who it was though

I also saw RX-GR8 on my way home from work last week, but I was driving my other car and going in the other direction so I couldn't really do anything

I saw a silver 8 on 320 about 3 or 4 days ago, i tried to get them to play on the curves with me but they held back.

i almost never see any 8's in my area. when i do, i wave but nobody seems to wave back, very few times do i see one going the same way either, almost always going other way. and out of all the ones i do see, i dont see very many with the full appearance package (spoiler, front lip side pieces and rear "mudflaps")

though i can say i met my first fellow member last week, and i must say it was pretty cool.

I saw a titanium gray one the other day on 64E (fellow officer) and last Sunday I saw a hot blonde driving a black or black cherry one on 64E.

There's also a red one that lives in my friend's neighborhood off Chesterbrook in VA Beach.

I haven't seen much more than that.

Yesterday @ 6:20PM there was a VR 8 right behind me when we pulled out of the shopping center, by Apple Ford in Columbia, onto Dobbin Road.

It was driven by an older woman with short blond hair. She took a right onto 175.

No spoiler or any mods I could tell from looking in the rear view mirror.

Today, around 11:30am, on 40 just before the RDU airport exit, I spotted a red 8 heading west while I was east bound. Whoever you were, you were just hitting the traffic jam due to a flatbed truck blocking traffic and retrieving a car that looked like it had jumped the guardrail and ended up at the bottom of the embankment.

Sound like RX-8 owners live in certain cluster areas.

That's been my experience too. My commute is 50 miles round-trip on rural, yet very congested roads. I too take different routes home each day. Yet I can easily go weeks without seeing another RX-8. I see more Vipers, 911s, Evos, STis, even Elises(!) than RX-8s.

I do occasionally see a blue one with an aftermarket exhaust on 202 here in New Hope (PA), and another(?) blue one in Morrisville with some sort of vanity plate. And once in awhile a black one on 32 between Yardley and Morrisville.

No response to waves :(

I flew pass a female driving a Silver 8 on Rte. 22 West in Bridgewater yesterday at around 6:45 pm. I got off at Commons Way and she got off behind me. At least she acknowledged me. She was pretty hott too! :D I can't stand when people don't say hi back. Anyway, I just wanted to see if she belonged to the club!

SE PA. Saw a Blue on Providence Road near Gradyville Road off of W. Chester Pike on 8/30 about 0900. Waved but didn't see a response.

On 8/23 morning rush alongside of a different Blue on the Blue Route northbound near the Expressway, mutual head nods.

MInes silver w/ clear corners, factory spoiler and a Zoom Zoom sticker on the front windshield. Usually find me around Western Delaware county and the Great Vallley area. Wave or flash the lights if you see me, I guarantee a wave.

Was leaving Nottinghams at lunch today and saw a Shinka parked in the back lot of UoP. Had HRTLESS on the plates and a US Army Retired sticker on the rear window. Also had a spoiler and moon roof deflector.

Saw a tit gray merging onto 422 East, around King of Prussia, yesterday on my way home. They were behind me until I changed lanes to avoid a sharp ridge in the pavement just after the 1st Ave exit. I gave them a thumbs up. After that they took off like a shot and were driving like a maniac up 202 and then 76 and then Mall Blvd.

Saw a blue 8 on 113 South; I was going north. Also gave them a thumbs up.

Saw another one today. A yellow one, in the Long Horn restaurant in Columbia, at 1230 for lunch.

Spied two 8's this past Saturday, a black in the Edison Pep Boys lot and a red on Rt.1 by Menlo Park Mall. Red, if you're on here I honked at ya, was on a yellow Ducati.

PA, Lionville/Exton, southbound 100 crossing rte 113 around 3:45 pm. Two red RX-8's following each other the first one was driven by a woman, the second by a guy. Both had spoilers. The lead one had a GBA- or GBZ- plate, which leads me to believe it was purchased in 2005. The other had a FMA- plate, like mine, so I'm thinking a 2004. The different ages of the cars might be why I kept thinking they weren't identical. same body kits etc, but either one was a lot cleaner or the paints were a bit off from each other, couldn't quite figure out why. I would have rolled down my window and waved, but felt goofy in my minivan. Had to get too many groceries to take the 8. :-(

Went to wash my car last Sunday and wouldn't you know it... The car in front of me was a black RX-8... not sure if driver noticed the car behind him with all the soap.

Just saw a blue one, with Antwerpen dealer tags, sitting in front of Giant, off of Cradlerock in Columbia. Male driver was on the phone and a lady was getting in. Pulled up beside him and said "nice car" and he acknowledged. Parked and he was gone.

I got a minivan, too, for those times that the 8 doesn't quite cut it. I drive it sometime just to appretiate the difference between the two. (I found some eibach lowering springs for the van :eek: that made a huge difference, but it is still a minivan)

I saw a brilliant black with OEM spoiler and appearance kit northbound about 3 cars ahead of me on 420 off of 95 in the Prospect Park area in PA at about 5:45-6:00 this evening. I was the Sunlight Silver with appearence kit and chrome wheels that drove past and made a left. I cut back on to 420 1 street up, and I think I saw you pulled over on the side in my rear view mirror.

You looked to be male, about mid to late 40's with graying hair, business casual dress and dark sunglasses. Your car looked super clean. Almost makes me wish I got a black... almost :-) Didn't catch the license plate number.

Saw a guy in a Winning Blue with spoiler, moon-roof and a black hood-bra (or decal?) with custom plates ending in `85.

I was driving my brand new 2004 Winning Blue with spoiler, moon-roof and all the trimmings. I had been an owner for about 30-minutes. Just picked it up at Shaefer and Strohminger and was headed back to Corning, NY.

I actually cut him off by accident, then eased over to the side. When he came along side he gave the car a quick look and flashed me a thumbs-up. After reading this board in the week preceeding my purchase that one gesture really made me feel a part of the RX-8 owners' community. I returned the thumbs-up and a smile and had an excellent drive home.

Nothing like 5 hours of quality time with your new baby to get to know her. :)

yeah, we are few and far between! i actually switch btwn this forum and another one- i'm not on this one much.

don't know much about the meets, haven't been to one yet (have only had my 8 for ~ 3 months). haven't really looked into any yet, so don't know when/where they are. someone mentioned that there are some in jersey, but, not to be biased, i'm not fond of jersey for personal reasons! :D

when/where are they this month? what's all involved in attending one?

I passed a silver right by the Backdoor Tavern on Sunday, I was in my VR with my girl. They waved big-time, that's awesome. My girl says who was that?! I said that was an RX-8. :cool:

Saw a Blue one with an MS wing? on Route 22 near the Lehigh Valley Airport on Tuesday evening around 11PM... It also appeared as if you have modified your fog lights to the super whites as the color temp matched the HIDs pretty well.

It was a great morning. Comming to work this morning on the GW parkway at about 6 AM in my white 8. I pass a titanium grey 8, which let me over in front of him (thanks by the way), he then followed me. Next I see a starlight silver 8 two cars ahead of us (could'nt catch up- dame cabbies), then to top it off a VR 8 pulls up beside us and proceeds to follow me into the pentagon parkinglot. Most 8s Ive ever seen in one spot of morning commute. I waved to all but it was to dark to see.

I have noticed the same thing, most of the states up north lack a number of RX8's where as the further south you go, the more you see. around 8:45, making a left turn onto Washington Blvd in Falls Church, to get on I-66 E, saw a TG RX-8 in front of the truck in front of me. Once the truck moved out of the lane i followed the TG onto I-66 E. Followed for a good bit until around I-495 N exit. I moved to the left lane and as I came next to the car I looked and waved. He definitely saw me wave but he has dark tint so I don't know if he waved back, then I kept on I-66 while he exited to I-495

In Virginia Beach / Hampton Roads area. The 7's & 8's get along quite well. Many 7's show up to our 8 meetings.
I also have heard very much the opposite from other regions of the country that 7 owners usual act elitish over the 8's. More HP / Less Weight / Turbo etc...

yeah i definately agree with that! theres a 7 around here that some old lady drives and i always try and grab her attention but she just gives me the look of death everytime.

theres always those sort of people with cars. theres rich people in my town (severna park, md) that have ferraris and still dont know what they have. i guess you cant blame them though, they are doing all the car was meant to do... drive.

there IS a few 8's around here that give a smile and 'the mazda wave' back when i pass by, but just lately i ran into those two 8's, which kinda shocked me. even miata owners are into the mazda spirit!

I know an old lady that travels up this way to teach.. she has a white 7 with an M-Tag on it.. so i take it she travels alot but i dont know where she stays.. there is another white vert 7 owner an old guy with glasses that drive up 95 N near whitemarsh area.. i tried to stay next to him and wave.. and he just ignored me.. What color is your 8? I've seen a blue one in the area most often around Pleasant Valley whenever I'm out there, but I haven't passed an 8 in daylight since I got my car 2 months ago. Not 6 days after I got my car, I passed by another white one in Fishkill on Route 52 at midnight. It was too dark for either of us to notice though I'm sure until the other passed by.

Do you chill anywhere or do anything around the area with ur car? Im always tryin to find peoples to just cruise every once and awhile!

Maybe we could do a brunch run to a nice diner or something. I'm busy the next couple of weekends getting ready for my sister's baby shower. Sometime after the 4th of Feb sounds good. actually no, there are AT LEAST 2 RX-8s I know that live in my subdivision, and then there are a few more that i see when i leave work or coming home from work

yeah, most of the local RX-8 owners are NOT rotary enthusiasts...

ahahhaa There are to many RX8 in Northern Va. I see at least 2-3 a day :)

i see a blue gt, a black base model, a yellow with apearance pkg, and a silver auto GT with 18" wheels in salisbury none ever even look at me :(
