View Full Version : What Accessories Are You Getting?
oilman 07-17-2003, 08:02 AM Now I've seen more pics with accessories and the prices (which I think are pretty silly) I would be interested to see what people are getting or are particularly interested in.
MAZDA UK may be interested in this info too!
For me (at this stage, may change my mind nearer the time)
Definates:
1. Strafes (aluminium)
2. Rotary accents front and rear (aluminium)
Possibles:
1. Alloy filler cap
2. Alloy exhaust surrounds
Body kit's not for me as the car's low enough as it is, my drive is too bumpy and long!
Cheers
Oilman
cw007 07-17-2003, 08:06 AM Im with Oil but i may go for the Mazdaspeed Spoiler as well.
havent seen much of the accessories really, get my accessories pack on Saturday will be in a better position then.
Definate though is the strafes.
RobDickinson 07-17-2003, 08:10 AM Probably just the strafes, look great on the titanium.
Filler cap is tacky the way they've done it, little better than a stick on halfords job.
No body kit for me, far to many sleeping policemen.
As to the rest, I'll think about it but its all stupid money.
MarkW 07-17-2003, 08:12 AM Oilman,
You have exceedingly good taste. My car is going to look very disconcertingly like yours (but with tints :) ).....
Definates:
1. Strafes (aluminium)
2. Rotary accents front and rear (aluminium)
3. Alloy exhaust surrounds
4. Window Tints
5. Private Reg
6. Mats (Will try to get dealer to throw them in!)
Possibles:
1. Alloy filler cap
2. MP3 player maybe
3. Some Mazdaspeed bits in the future
4. Aftermarket Exhasut in the future
5. Starter button if they ever do it
Cheers
Mark
morganrogers 07-17-2003, 08:19 AM Just the strafes....
Fuel cap is horrid (all opinions purely my own etc etc...)
£175 is wayyyyy too much though.
I may have been interested in rotary accents front , rear , B-pillar etc but at the prices they want - not a chance.
Mazda - Stop asking silly money and you will sell more bits. Word to the wise...
sixspeed 07-17-2003, 08:29 AM Hmmmmm... too many goodies...
Definates to start off with:
Mazdaspeed Kit and Suspension (already ordered to be fitted before delivery)
Exhaust (Re-Amemiya?)
Factory MP3 Unit (in place of 6-CD)
Window Tints
Custom two-tone leather re-trim
Private Reg
Starter Button
Possibles:
Strafes (brushed aluminium)
Rotary Accents
Ally Fuel Filler Cap
Definates for future:
Mazdaspeed strut/under-car brace
Mazdaspeed Dials
YAW Power Supercharger? :D
-andy-
jimbobjoe 07-17-2003, 09:34 AM I might buy the strakes.
But the prices for this stuff is just ridiculous. At these prices that i sthe only option I'll be going for. (Maybe the mats)
AnilS 07-17-2003, 10:24 AM For me;
1. Alu side starkes
2. Parking sensors (if they become available)
3. Window tints.
4. Mats
5. Private plate (A5 RXB)
6. The fangs either the side of the front No plate from the X-Men car (if available).
7. Tow bar + trailer (just kidding):D
AnilS
Brush 07-17-2003, 10:49 AM Am I missing something? Where have you guys seen the availability of accessories? It's not on the web-site, so is it my dealer that has not told me about them?

renegade_si 07-17-2003, 10:59 AM hmmm
well heres a question (which couldn't be answered by the guys at the Henley do with the strafes there !)
to start with, I WILL wash the car by hand. However, after a while I will put it through the car wash. Will the strafes stay fixed? Dont know was the reply, but I'm pretty concerned they wont. They look great (esp on titanium - darn getting silver) but...
anyway, my list (with strafes depending)
1. Mazdaspeed rear only, not side and front (if possible)? Again they couldnt answer that....also couldn't tell me the price - sixpeed, do you know???
2. Tinted Windows to the max
3. mats
4. Personalised Plate
5. starter button (but from where?)
liked the alloy exhaust surrounds, but at £200 they can poke it. Even the strafes at £175 is expensive! As for the front and rear accents I think they will look cool, but I reckon some silver paint will do it for £5 rather then their prices!! :D
Parking sensors are in the accessories catalogue Anil

Firstly ... noooooo! How could you put a car like this through a car wash??? :'( Please!!! Don't! At least use a jetwash. Those car-washes are horrible. Swirl and scratch the paint, and never do a decent job of getting the car perfectly clean.
Now I've got that off my chest.... The Mazdaspeed kit. No reason you can't just get the rear piece. Each section is a seperate piece, so can be fitted independently of another. I'm not quite sure how it will look though, since it will lower the line around the bottom of the car, and it might look a bit strange if the rear of the car sits "lower" than the rest.
I've no exact price since the kit that I am getting has being ordered from Japan by my dealer along with others in different colours. I imagine it'll be fairly pricey, if just because you are paying the shipping on that one part. You could speak to T W Whites in Bookham. Ask to speak with Neil if possible, as he has arrange the import of the kit. He may be able to bring you a rear-section over with the other kits which will save you a lot in shipping.
Likewise with the starter button. AFAIK this is only available in Japan, but my dealer is happy to import any item from there for me and others. I have not asked for the starter button kit yet, so maybe a group buy could be arranged through them?
As for the exhaust trims (and the rest of the small Mazda accessories).. too right! I could have a complete custom rear-box made for a little more than that price! Like I'd pay £200 just to have some fancy end-caps! Same goes for the fuel filler and strakes. They're on my possible list, since I just can't see the justification for it!

Lensman 07-17-2003, 12:04 PM I've obviously missed the prices for these accessories. Were they posted somewhere?!
Definite
1. Private Reg
2. Mats
Possible
1. Park Distance Radar (depending on cost, £360 for the BMW I looked at, didn't seem excessive)
2. Front and Rear Rotor Flashings (although I need to see these in the flesh)
Just as long as Mazda don't forget that whatever they come up with will be copied at half the price by the aftermarket boys
Goose 07-17-2003, 01:23 PM My definate list:
Strafes
Mats
Sill guards
Tints
Pillar Trims
Starter button
Cargo net
But i'm not going to pay the Mazda UK prices. It wouldn't be a bad idea to talk to one of the large Mazda accessory companies and see if they can import a truck load for us at discount. Japanese price is less than 2/3 our prices. A group buy may get us all feeling a little better, i know i'd be happier being able to hold at least a part of my 8 before Christmas!
Lensman 07-17-2003, 01:27 PM Uhmmm... the prices gentlemen, the prices?
sixspeed 07-17-2003, 01:34 PM Lensman,
I don't know about official Mazda UK prices, but all the prices for accessories and the Mazdaspeed kit are on the Mazda.co.jp website. A quick check on www.xe.net/ucc will give you a conversion from Yen to GBP. Shipping will depend on what's ordered.
T W Whites are importing Mazdaspeed kits from Japan (I believe one kit in every colour, and a couple in the popular colours). They can import anything else from Mazda sources in Japan as well. I would be happy to speak with them in arranging some sort of group buy for us all. It will work out a lot cheaper for us all if more items are ordered at once.
I intend to speak with T W Whites tomorrow or this weekend regarding a few additional items, so I will mention that there are more people on here that want accessories and see what they can do.

c170673 07-17-2003, 01:38 PM For me I think I will stick to:
1. Rotary crest (brushed aluminium)
2. Air outlet fins (brushed aluminium)
I was considering the exhaust trim, but I think before too long some specialist company will be selling after market versions for less than the £200 Mazda price.
Chris
Lensman 07-17-2003, 01:50 PM Thanks Sixspeed.
MarkW 07-17-2003, 01:53 PM Maybe we will all get a nice voucher from Mazda for 50% off accessories, to make up for the delays :D
At half price the prices would look almost reasonable.
c170673 07-17-2003, 02:04 PM MarkW,
I think we will be waiting a long time before we are offered such a thing by Mazda....
But if they want to prove me wrong and make such a generous gesture, then I will be more than willing to hold up my hand and say I was wrong to be so cynical about them....(so Mazda if you are listening.....)
Chris
Goose 07-17-2003, 02:15 PM sixspeed,
please ask if they will be happy to import our accessories for a good price (minimum mark-up for them!), it's my birthday next month and i fancy treating myself!
i'll definately be up for it! Even with the shipping costs it should be about 75% of UK price.
If they are willing and able then we can put a deadline of a couple of weeks for everyone to place their order, then a final price can be calculated for each accessory once numbers are known.
not many people will be having No options will they ;)
oilman 07-17-2003, 03:05 PM Maybe Mazda UK should review the situation and offer a group discount to Forum members on the QT.
I'm sure they're capable of doing deals, afterall we're all paying Full Price for our RX8's.
C'mon Mazda, you really wouldn't want us to import the stuff would you? That would be embarrassing!!
Cheers
Oilman
renegade_si 07-17-2003, 04:16 PM Lensman,
the prices I saw were from the preview evening. I took a photo of the accessories and their prices, but I manage to move the camera and it came out too blurred to make out.
Sixspeed, regarding the mazda.co.jp site, I found the rx-8 accessories section (via the tooltips in english) but couldn't find the prices. Sorry - help (!)
mr_digital_uk 07-17-2003, 04:49 PM Now let me see .. boy-racer add-ons that make the car look as tacky as an Impreza or spend my money on a decent engine upgrade that would restore it to 250bhp ... no contest ...
But, if I were to choose bodywork mods they would be:
* A curvy, not too large spoiler that would stop the rear end looking so Ford
* A new, never seen before, fuel filler cap (not like the Audi TT cheap copy) ... maybe a rotary triangular thing
As for the strafes ... they look great on Titanium, but look naff on the red
Hercules 07-17-2003, 04:49 PM I just ordered my exhaust finishers... I want to get the front and rear rotary accents too but Trussville didn't have them in stock.

renegade_si 07-17-2003, 04:56 PM I agree really - I guess just a proper spoiler is what I want, the mazdaspeed one is cool for me, I agree the rest of the kit at the back looks great but may look bad without the rest.
Andy, can you ask if thats possible. My deals is T W Whites too, but not bookham, the Weybridge one - but still if a silver one can be ordered I would love one.
I can go through Surindah @ Weybridge, but whehn I spoke to Rob there @ Henley he didn't know about the Mazdaspeed kit ordering.
AndyPearce 07-17-2003, 05:40 PM I think I'll only be ordering the strakes / strafes. I may be interested in the rotary accents but I'd want to see them first. The prices are far too high though - bad show Mazda - you should be treating your pre-orderes with some of these things!
Why will cruise control not be available in the UK as an option(or even as standard kit)? The Mazda 6 has it. Only option I would like is on time delivery....
renegade_si 07-17-2003, 07:39 PM its not listed in the accessories catalogue here, parking reverse etc is all in there so I would gues that this would be the place...
AnilS 07-18-2003, 02:35 AM Chris, my dealer principal has already mentioned that, he would offer me an accessories voucher for the delay. He didn't state what its value would be though, but I sure as hell expect some generosity after the wait, paying full fat price and deletion of cruise control (I really wanted it) on UK spec cars.
AnilS.
I would be nice if the dealers do come up with some sort of discount for us 'oldies' but cannot see it, especially if the expected waiting list will materialise.
I agrere that the back need livening up, so maybe better spoiler and exhaust surround and also better chrome exhaust endings (whatever they may be called).

sixspeed 07-18-2003, 03:22 AM Si,
I only really looked for the Mazdaspeed items. If you go to www.mazda.co.jp/mazdaspeed - all the items are listed with a price in Yen next to them.
As for the "standard" accessories, I'm not sure as I haven't really looked at them in great detail yet. If they are not listed next to the items on the site, then I don't know where else you could find them.
I have the Japanese brochures at home so I'll have a look in there but I don't remember seeing the prices (probably on a seperate price-list).
I know Whites were going to try and pack the kits in with a few imports that they had coming over on a container, which would mean the shipping would be very small (free? :/). I don't know if they've managed this. It's one of the things I need to ask when I speak to them. I'll try calling later this morning.
Oh and one big definate I left off the list.......
Get my 250ps back!! (as soon as it's worked out how!)
-andy-
sixspeed 07-23-2003, 11:32 AM With accessories being mentioned in another thread, and talks of a group buy I thought I'd just post to say I haven't forgotten about speaking with Whites. Unfortunately though, the manager there has gone on holiday til the end of next week, and since it was him whom I was dealing with regarding the kit imports etc, i'll have to wait until he returns to find out what is possible.
Did see this though on another thread elsewhere on the forum - http://www.japanparts.com. All the Mazdaspeed and Mazda parts. Maybe we could get a group buy arranged through these guys if Whites are unable to do it/turn out to expensive?
-andy-
DannyA 07-23-2003, 11:43 AM That would be great sixspeed, please keep us posted.
I am very, very tempted by the stafes (Air Outlet Garnish Set) and the price on the link you provided looks far more sensible than the £275 being mentioned elsewhere.
Still £125 is a fair amount of cash for 2 pairs of aluminium strips.
AnilS 07-23-2003, 12:06 PM Danny, I believe 4 strips cost £175.
AnilS.
DannyA 07-23-2003, 12:26 PM Thanks AnilS.
Still a heck of a lotta money though :)
AnilS 07-23-2003, 12:34 PM Damn right Danny, its alot of money for these strips. I'm assuming thet are really made from metal, otherwise they are definately not work it. There will be other accessory agents that will knock them out cheaper, maybe mx5parts.com ?
AnilS.
AnilS 07-23-2003, 12:36 PM Sorry Danny, that should read;

crabacle 09-16-2003, 06:14 AM I understand that Mazda are looking at the accessories prices, and that's the reason why they have not yet been published, but don't hold any hopes for big reductions. - However I have heard that the prices seen so far may include VAT and fitting.
But until then my extras are:
Private Plate
Tinted Widows
Paint Protector finish
Tracker
Stakes
Front and rear rotary emblem.
The rest is mighty fine as it is.:p
c170673 09-16-2003, 06:28 AM I don't think we in the UK can have the rear rotary emblem as the Fog Light makes it impossible to fit it.
I agree with the rest though, although I have not bought a plate yet as I am undecided.

Again speculation, If any of you have ever been to Japan you iwll know how expensive it is. How can you just say ok it's Ichi Man yen then convert it back to GBP?
sixspeed 09-17-2003, 09:20 AM Ummm, because that's the price in YEN that is displayed on the Mazdaspeed website? That is the price of the parts in Japan.
As far as Mazdaspeed parts are concerned, we are not expected to see them officially over here. T W Whites are importing them from Japan and as such will be buying from Mazdaspeed direct for prices not far off those on the website. I already said that shipping costs are uncertain. The conversion from Yen to GBP gives a likely idea of the *MINIMUM* cost that the Mazdaspeed kits will be available at from Whites, since I doubt they're going to sell them at a loss.
As for the Mazda accessories, a brief look at prices in Japan, and in the US gives a good estimate of what we'll end up paying over here. But I admit that there is speculation involved on this part. However, I was really talking about the Mazdaspeed parts in my previous post, not Mazda Accessories.
Thanks for your help though. http://alahnaf.virtualave.net/noncgi/rolleyes.gif

There were some 'suggested' prices on display by Mazda when we went to the static displays that they organised.
jimbobjoe 09-17-2003, 10:47 AM There are a couple of references to getting together a group-buy for some of these accessories
Unfortunately group-buys are currently considered to be against the T&Cs of the forums, and so we can't do that.
sixspeed 09-17-2003, 11:18 AM Is there a good reason for this? (no group-buys).
I can't see what effect (bad) it has on the forum?

The problem is with commercial advertising. A group-buy will very quickly attract suppliers to advertise their prices etc. Advertising is not permitted without prior permission.
So the issue is not about us going out looking for discounts, it is with the inevitable reaction from the commercial sector.
The admins are quite happy to sell the advertising space however.
If anyone really wants to go down this route (and if there is a bargain to had, why not), then the prospective vendor needs to seek permission.
