thats bs... they say that if you dont look like you could afford a car or if they are just assholes. They did that to me yesterday when I went to test drive an evo8... guy said about legal stuff but I know the damn law cuz they dont think you can afford it they are gunna be gay. As long as you are LEGALLY able to drive, you can test drive.

Don't know about the law in your area but in some cases it may be an insurance issue rather then a strictly legal issue.

At the dealer I go to, there insurance will only cover vehicles taken for test drives but not for overnight or loaners. Other dealers have different policies. It could be that they can't due to the policy they have.

As long as you have a license and don't look like a dumb kid that just wants to the car for a joy ride.

Bring your dad with you to look like you're serious.

Could be insurance, some places wouldn't let me until I was 21.

Then the 25 barrier for rentals and loaners.

Being younger than 18 is tough since you are still under the care of your parents. So in the sale person point of you, they cannot held you liable unless you have your parent with you. That's what I think, then again all sale person have their story to tell when it came to situation that they don't want to do business with you.

IANAL, but I believe that if you're under 18 you cannot legally be bound to a contract (i.e. the purchase of a car). So if you can't buy a car from them, why would they want to let you test drive?

However, it's more likely an insurance issue, in other words the dealer's insurance policy doesn't cover anyone under 18.
