Seems like noone is representing MN around here anymore, Any of you rotor heads at the U of MN TC?

But learning :). I ordered one that is coming to Rochester MN. Not a first allocation. Should be here in August.

Have any dealerships in the Twin Cities received cars yet? The one in Burnsville told me they'd have them 7/16, but not sure if they really got them.

Strange, because a couple of Northstar members were some of the more prominent members in the beginning.

So far, I still believe that there are no rx-8's in MN, I have a couple of dealers thinking that im buying and have promised me a test drive as soon as they get one in. of course, no word from them yet. The dealers here do have rx-8's in their inventory however..... Im not exactly the most up to date right now.

Well, mine isn't here yet. (and that's important to me!) The dealer keeps saying late July, but I got the "released from port" letter Monday.

I don't know what kind of crazeeee tour these cars take to get here, but couldn't they get here soon? Please?

I (and my 8) will be moving to St. Paul MN in september. Can anyone recommend a good Mazda dealer in the area?

Dealerships here dont strike me as anything special. The biggest one is Morries Mazda, nice people. I have Polar Mazda giving me a test drive as soon as one reaches MN. Well, lets say they suck due to the fact that they dont have any yet. I could be wrong

any rx8's spotted yet?

I can't believe non of them have made it here yet.

Mine is sitting in port. I'm not upset since it just got to port last week, but others have had cars sitting in port for over 1 month.

Does anyone know the process of bringing them here from Tacoma? Do they go by rail to KC first? KC just started seeing them, so maybe they're on trucks finally heading this way.

Yeah, mine is one of the first allocation. Today looked like the possible day according to the dealer...but no.

It's like they were taken on a big parade around the U.S.; dropped off along the way at various points of the country, but completely looping around/avoiding Minnesota!

I think I'd best just try not to think about it for a couple days.

Don't think about the RX-8

Yea, I got my 8 just before x-mas, and so far I haven't seen any on the road.

I saw a silver one parked in St. Anthony one day when we went to lunch, and then I seen one at a Wild game parked in the same ramp I was. Both were the silver. But other than that, I haven't seen 8's on the road.

I live about 8 miles from Polar and haven't seen a one in the east metro. People stop to look at mine all the time, but I haven't seen any one else on the highways.

If you see a winning blue 8 flying between maplewood and minneapolis, that's me.

Im down in Edina - had mine since July of last year. I am in the woodbury area off and on. The silver you saw might have been mine at the wild game.

There are tons of them on my side of the town though. Wayzata especially. last night on a cruise, my wife and I saw 5 parked by the lake. Not meeting there, but just people that drove down to be by the water. 3 Red, one black and one yellow last night alone. none with mods though...

Huh, interesting, so the bulk are showing up on the west end of town eh.

I'll be happy to see a few more on the road since its getting weird and just a little annoying having people stop or pull up next to me in traffic or at parking lots and check out the car. I had some joker put an 18 on the front hood after a day of slush warm weather in the winter and the car was salt white. Even last night leaving work, the Twins fans were heading to the dome and driving down washington I had people stop in front of the car to check it out while crossing the street. Not that I don't mide it, but sometimes its a pain.

One of the old interior designers that used to work with me, is free lancing and is doing the Mazda show room on the west side of town. She's the one that really turned me onto the car...especially when she told me the price point and my little geo was giving up the ghost.

Hey I got mine July 23rd, live in Lakeville and never see any other 8's untill today. Walser Mazda said they have sold about 50 of them and it seems like all of them have been in the Woodbury area. Anyone here had a ECU reflash done? Walser said they are not doing that sort of thing. I think it is time they get with the program!

Well I'm in Maplewood and still haven't seen one the highways, only those two parked. I got mine from Polar and I thought I'd see a few more rolling around town, but nothing yet.

As for the flashes. I took mine in for the two recall notices and a free oil change and I don't think they did it. Next time I take it in for oil or something else I'll have the flash notice in hand and give it to them if they say no.

I've seen only two on the road; a red one with dealer plates last August, and one silver one about a month ago going north on Hwy. 100. I'm sure that will change this Summer.

Greetings Norsemen,

I grew up in Minnesota (Buffalo) and moved to Phoenix back in 1987. I still follow the Vikes, Twinkies, and I still get ticked off everytime I see that Hockey team from Dallas with OUR uniforms on. Anyway I bought a '93 CYM FD (1993 RX-7) four years ago and I love it. I also miss Minnesota summers, but winters here in Arizona are well worth the summer heat we have to endure.

Sorry to hear that you're not seeing more RX-8s yet in the TC area. They're selling very well here in Phoenix and I may add one to our other garage stall if they DO indeed import a Mazdaspeed version next year.

Oh well, take care. Just thought I'd say HI, Oh Sure, and You Betcha! Miss the cool summer temps and moisture in the air. Awesome weather for Turbo cars (go figure)!

Later,

Tim

Rccaz 1, do you still get up this way anymore or are you a transplant for good?

But anyways, I finally seen a 8 on highway 36 around 7 pm tonight. I was heading home from work and this black 8 was heading into roseville.

Well that's one so far...

Vortex,

Fortunately (for me), I stayed in Arizona. I love it here and wouldn't come back. I miss things about Minnesota, but I love the Desert Southwest. I also enjoy the close proximity to places like Vegas, San Diego, LA, Durango CO, and Rocky Point Mexico.

I DO come back to Minnesota at least once a year (usually during the summer months). I have two nephews getting married this year (one in September and one in November) so I'll be making two trips this year. Do you guys get together and attend the Midwest Rotary Rally (MRR) in Elkhardt Lake WI? I attend Sevenstock each year out in LA and nothing is funner than big rotary get togethers. Try it if you haven't! You'll have a great time. Let me know if you start to see more 8s soon. I'm sure by the end of summer you'll start to see a lot more on the road!

RCCAZ 1, I'm starting to think about moving to Arizona or somewhere in that direction sometime myself. Unlike my hearty fellow Minnesotans, I find myself wearing a coat when I'm not active anytime the temp. dips below 65 degrees, and working happily in the heat when temperatures are in the 90's. Gotta love the mountains and desertscapes too.

Summers here can be beautiful though...

Regarding other RX8's: they're starting to get out there. I saw a silver one on France Ave. about two weeks ago, (anyone notice the thumbs-up from some goofball on a red recumbent?) and a black one in a parking lot near North Oaks. It felt kind of eerie to park near another 8 for the first time.

Vortex

Well I seen another black 8 on 55/13 just heading into eagan. some lady was driving it. Looked clean and new I think dealer plates were still on it.

So they are coming out of winter hibernation...now I just need to keep mine clean. I washed and waxed it last weekend only have it rain that night and on sunday so now its all dust spotty. I'd clean it again this weekend, but we're slated for rain all this weekend...

My car will never be shiny:confused:

KKMmaniac
05-02-2004, 07:04 PM
Yeah seems we're lucky to get two days of staying clean. I usually wash my car Friday aft., and as luck would have it, no rain this weekend! We all know, weather predictions don't help.

Unfortunately, by Monday noon, the clean starts going downhill even if the weather cooperates because I have to park the car right at ground zero where it appears all the dust in the universe collects.

Yes, it's this weekend. I don't think I'll go, unless I feel like I've got too much time, and then only to sight-see and spectate. I went last year, and drove, (not real well) and I think it is definitely worth the money to do once anyway.

I wasn't too keen on waiting in line so much, or having to rush from stage to stage, but it did feel good to get out there and wring out a car briefly.

I'm an east metro kid, so I may not be the best judge, but if you take 169 to the horse track I'd say its about 15-20 maybe a bit longer with the perpetual construction, traffic and lights on that end of town.

SikRedRX-8
05-03-2004, 02:23 PM
So it isn't that far from the area I am talking about? Thanks man.

Vortex
05-03-2004, 02:44 PM
No, not far from the Mega Maul, but 494 is STILL under major construction and 169 is always packed with traffic and filled with lights. Once you get out of the dense surburbia down there the roads open up.

I'm on the east end of town and for me to make that trip it's well over an hour with all the lights and detours. The traffic around the Maul on the weekend is just horrible...all you out of town folks not knowing here your going or what lane to be in. :D

France and Penn are loaded with traffic and stop lights, just make sure to allow yourself plenty of time if you need to be some place at some special time.

So how was it?

I drove past the horse track on sunday morning on my way to my grandparents place and I was hoping to see a whole convoy of 8 or Mazda cars but I didn't see a one.

So was it a good turn out? They pushed the event on 93X friday morning, but haven't heard anything else about it.

So spill it, how was it.

Vortex

The classics have down town St. Paul on friday nights on Wabasha St. and on occasions No. St. Paul has classics nights on friday or sat sometimes.

The kid at work is a ricer and they have little events here and there.

I know there's a MN rotary car club but I don't belong. I'm not plugged in enough to know of any clubs or usual hang outs.

More often than not, if you just drive around any of the major metro lakes you find all sorts of car clusters. Cruising the lakes are big in the summer.

Well I guess I didn't miss much at the Rev-it up then if there were only 2 8's there and a few 7's.

Howdy rotary-convert. People must think you're some kinda high-fallutin' celebrity up there with a car like that!

My parents used to live in Sandstone, they had some decent acreage and a newer home with out buildings, including a large pole barn. The mice ransacked the interior of my old RX7 there.

Beautiful area! I miss it.

You might see me cruising around near the Plymouth area sometime. Best use caution; I'm not a very good driver, and the sight of another RX8 may be too much for me! (and it's blue?)

I will be adding an RX8 to Minnesota. I am moving to St. Paul from Aurora,IL in less than two weeks. I picked mine up last August and I have over 24000 miles on it. When I get up there I will check out the rotary club. I have been up to St. Paul/Minneapolis area about 6 times in the last three months and I don't think I saw a single other RX8 while I was up there. If you see a silver RX8 with IL plates please don't hit me, I am originally from Wisconsin, and I want to live in Minnesota.

Kk,
I havn't been back to the area since I got my 8. Can't wait to see the expressions on the locals faces. Heck where I live now, a small town of 300 in Michigan, I have gas station attendants inquiring over the PA "Does that thing got a hemi?"
"No my missing tooth friend, its a rotary", I proudly reply.

And yes it is a beautiful area, spent much of my childhood there and can't wait to get back.
