View Full Version : ATTENTION: All NSW Owners
Revolver 07-29-2005, 12:50 AM As you are aware, we are running a National RX8 Meet at Wakefield over the weekend of 22-23 October.
For further details - see sticky thread above.
I have been drafted into the role of NSW Co-ordinator.
Kindly post here as to whether you intend to come, cannot come or may come if the right inducements are held out to you.
If you intend to come, I'll put you on the list and advise in due course as to arrangements to cruise down and back in company. Obviously this is not compulsory but we'll set something up for those who wish to do so.
If you cannot come, please say so here in order to prevent me PMing you later begging you to come (it won't be pretty).
If you may come if the attractions are right, please post here as to what will induce you to come and we'll see what we can do. However, performances with farm animals will not be considered.
Now remember people. This inaugural event is a once in a lifetime experience. It is also being held at a track that is easiest for us to get to (relatively speaking) so there is no excuse for a small contingent. We should be the biggest and the best (as usual!).
Look forward to hearing from you all soon.
Dave
P.s. Obviously all suggestions welcome unless they are medically impossible to comply with.
Revolver 07-29-2005, 01:33 AM Okay, just to get you all started, here is the list that Timbo put together.
If you're not on it and want to be - tell us.
If you're on it and can no longer come - tell us that too.

Would those on the YES list please post confirmation that you still intend to come or PM me if you wish. ZOOMBY - no need to do it again, thanks.
Timbo has stipulated 26 August as the cut off date for initial financial commitment. If we don't have 30+ by then the whole thing may be called off so please work out what you're doing and post whether or not you're coming ASAP.
We will advise in due course how much that initial financial commitment will be and how it can be paid.
Would otherwise appreciate it if you could keep posts in this thread on topic so I don't have to wade through chit chat looking for responses. Not being rude - just trying to make my job a bit easier. :)
Revolver 07-29-2005, 07:42 PM Just to stimulate a bit more interest, I thought I'd also begin some suggestions for the cruise down and back. Obviously, other suggestions are invited and we'll let general consensus rule.
CRUISE DOWN
I want to keep this simple because most will have had a long week at work, there will be plenty of hard driving on Saturday and the last thing we want is for someone's weekend to be spoiled by getting booked or, at worst, some kind of accident. Remember, cops are always out in force in and around Goulburn because the police academy is there so lets just keep things cool and get there.
First thing is to find out whether there's any interest at all in a cruise in company for the trip down. Some of you may just want to get there with the minimum of fuss and/or we might all intend to leave Sydney at different times. If so, no sweat - we'll scrap it and concentrate on the cruise back.
What I'm thinking of is a staging point just south of Sydney (maybe around Campbelltown way) and preferably just off the highway so we don't have any unnecessary detours. From memory there is a roadhouse/servo in that neck of the woods which might do the job. Idea is to converge there from wherever we're all coming from and then cruise down the highway to Goulburn from there. Upon arrival in Goulburn we can go our separate ways as some will want to get fuel, food, etc.
Ideally, we would want to meet by mid-afternoon (say 3.00pm) so we don't get caught in too much of the nightmare that the M5 can become in peak time. However, I appreciate that some of you cannot get away early and we may just have to go later (or perhaps in two shifts).
So, rather than flog a dead horse - when indicating your intentions on coming, please also advise whether you're interested in a cruise down in company. If there's enough people (say more than 3), we'll sort out details later.
CRUISE BACK
This will be much easier to coordinate because we will all be starting from the one location.
There's two ways we can do it - a straight drive up the highway or a bit of a nav rally through the southern highlands if you want to milk a bit more out of the weekend. Of course, we can also do both and people can pick and choose (for instance, the QLD boys may prefer the former because they've got a long way to go).
My preference is for a nav rally as there is some great driving through the highlands and it will add more value to the Nats experience. Of course, the QLD guys might also like to join us on this one and they're wlecome to do so.
I'm thinking a pre-selected route with printed maps and designated stop points so it doesn't become a shambles. Suggestions as to a route welcome - PM me on that as I don't necessarily want to advertise where we are going to be. Once a route is picked, I'll print maps and instructions and hand them out down at Goulburn.
So, again, when you're responding, please advise whether you are interested in principle in a cruise back in company and we'll sort something out.
Sorry to be so long but once these things are up and rolling I can go back to shorter posts.
not sure if it have been covered before in the sticky thread.....
i think i'd be easier and more cost effective to grab yourself a CB radio for cruise up/down and on track. (pick an unique channel on the day)
i think it is a great device, we have been using it for many years :p
Revolver 07-29-2005, 11:22 PM Thanks Eric that is a good suggestion. If the cruises in company come off, we'll look at doing that.
Wildcard 07-29-2005, 11:56 PM I'm still coming. No way I'd miss this.
I'll make my own way up and back though with Triple G. Not up for cruising unless it happens to be at the exact time we are leaving.
Revolver 07-30-2005, 01:14 AM I'm still coming. No way I'd miss this.

Thanks Wildcard. :)
Fair enough re: getting there and back. If a cruise does come off I'll keep you posted and see if it works in with what you guys are doing.
BTW - I'm assuming Triple G is coming in his own car yes? Just want to make sure my car numbers match my people numbers. Not clear from your post.
RXE16T 07-30-2005, 03:36 AM paul... while i got you here, do you have any idea how the deals going to deal with the recalls this time round? maybe start a new thread or something
Absolutely bloody nothing at this stage........ the Service Dept's are still awaiting further instructions from Mazda Oz.
Apparently still a week or two away..........
Paul are you having an identity crisis Noojoc turns to RXE16T Is there anything we should know about the 1.6 LITRE upcoming rotary .???? :D
The 6 is meant to be a G ........ you'd get what I mean if you saw the layout of NSW plates. :p

I've got nothing against yellow, it's just the yellow used in this particular model is reserved for middle aged blokes and/or people with no taste......... GM's Devil Yellow is more to my liking.

Sorry to write in the NSW forum ;)
The CB is a great device .... I can yell down the CB. "Come back to the pit Revolver, don't make me to get you" much better than a black flag :p

With respect, I think a CB would be a potentially dangerous distraction on the track --- fine for a cruise. Wakefield has lights and flags.
Great for the Sunday morning run, and also for the 'convoys' coming and returning ;)
Hymee 07-30-2005, 07:11 AM <In my best Richie Benaud voice...>
I think I would go one step further to say that C.B.'s should be outlawed from the track day alltogether...</richieBenaud>
The only way I think that could work is if the CB was incorporated into the helmet and had VOX.
Radios are great for cruising.
Cheers,
Hymee.
alright, i think i should clarify something.... i was never meant to suggest using the CBs while tracking, unless it is one of those built-in radio systems mentioned by hymee.
i was talking about for ppl wondering around the pit area or during the toilet break etc :D
... or during the toilet break etc :D
Out of toilet paper alert.... Yes - I can see a CB as really useful for this sort of crisis.. Do we use channel 13 for this??? :D :D :D
takahashi 07-30-2005, 05:26 PM The only way I think that could work is if the CB was incorporated into the helmet and had VOX.
Hymee have approved my use of CB on thtrack ;)

Triple G drives a red 8. Mine is silver. Both our cars will be there. I can't speak for him 100% though, but he said he was dead keen. He's O/S at the moment so he probably isn't going to be on the forum for a couple of weeks to see this thread.
Revolver 07-31-2005, 06:34 PM Thanks Wildcard. :)
As for the rest of you - can you please take your 'off-topic' discussions to the sticky or elsewhere please?? As previously mentioned, makes this job harder if I have to wade through non-NSW stuff. Thanks. :)

Revolver 08-01-2005, 11:26 PM I have duplicated this thread in RX8club.com.au (see the Nats forum in the 'Driving' section of the index). :)
Or just hit http://www.rx8club.com.au/forum/viewtopic.php?t=321.
Yes I will be there.I've been quiet for the last 5 weeks as I have been on holiday in Peru and Bolivia. Surprisingly, I did not see any 8's :)
So its been 5 weeks since I have driven mine! Guess what I am about to do....
Wildcard 08-02-2005, 07:50 PM Relax a little Revolver, it's only the 3rd of August. I'm often away from this forum for weeks at a time due to work and travel. I'm sure everyone will pipe up by the 26th.

You're right Wildcard - sorry! :o
I've deleted my little spack attack.
Revolver 08-02-2005, 08:33 PM To save having to update the list of NSW attendees in two places, I'm just gonna update the list in the au site from now on - see link in post #32 of this thread. Of course, feel free to continue posting here as to whether or not you're coming/suggestions/comments, etc. :)
Apologies if some have been offended by my efforts to 'co-ordinate' - just trying to make sure we get the numbers up.
Will attempt to relax from now on! :o
Wildcard 08-04-2005, 02:35 AM We're not offended, you just seem to be giving yourself a hernia with all your enthusiasm!

Triple G 08-11-2005, 10:13 PM Revolver,
Got your PM thanks. Also thanks for running with the NSW co-ord of the Nats. I am in. As discussed I will make my way down with Wildcard....... however if things change I will look to meet up with the rest of the guys in Sydney
Thanks G

Good to hear from you Triple G :)
I'll promote you from MAYBE to YES! ;) Wildcard had indicated you're coming but I just wanted to confirm.
At this stage there hasn't been much interest shown in cruising down to Goulburn in company (or back for that matter). Still, that might change as we get a bit closer.
I'll probably make some arrangements on the old "build it and they will come" philosophy.
I'd be in for a group cruise down.
playa78 08-13-2005, 11:48 AM hello revolver. put me in for a maybe group.
I'm really hoping to make it although I have a certification examination on the following week.. is this going to be from Friday to Sunday?

Noted Muzz :)
Check back either here or on the NSW Owners thread in the Aus site (http://www.rx8club.com.au/forum/viewtopic.php?p=2568#2568) and I'll post a suggested cruise down plan as we get a bit closer.
Revolver 08-14-2005, 06:39 PM hello revolver. put me in for a maybe group.
I'm really hoping to make it although I have a certification examination on the following week.. is this going to be from Friday to Sunday?
From memory I've got you in the Maybe list in the NSW Owners thread in the Aus site already but I'll check (see http://www.rx8club.com.au/forum/viewtopic.php?p=2568#2568). Please let me know when you go from Maybe to either YES :D :D or NO :( :( .
The program is still coming together but I think it is now safe to say that yes it will cover Friday to Sunday morning at least. Of course, how much of that you wish to participate in is up to you.
As for your exam - you've got heaps of time between now and then - study hard and use the Nats weekend as a head clearer before your exam! ;) :D
Revolver 08-21-2005, 07:30 PM Those who have registered interest in the RX8 Nationals with their respective state coordinators will shortly be receiving a broadcast email (not a PM) dealing with the subject of registration fees, etc. Responses to that email are required by 26 August.
If you have not yet registered interest and wish to receive this email, please PM your email address to your state coordinator now.
If you have previously registered interest and have not received the broadcast email by tomorrow, please ask your state coordinator to send it to you (and provide your email address).
Coordinators are as follows:
QLD - xxup
Vic - takahashi
NSW - Revolver
ACT - Timbo
Other states - any of the above will respond.
There will be a limit on the number of cars accepted.
Revolver 09-19-2005, 09:21 PM BUMP
Just reposting the below information as it quickly got lost in the other thread meanderings and I've had a few recent queries about the cruise down to Wakefield.
Regarding a cruise in company down to Wakefield on the Friday afternoon of the Nats weekend, I did some looking on my way down for the RENEW track day and can report as follows:
There is a roadhouse (Mobil at Pheasants Nest). It is 53.8kms south of the M5 Toll Plaza.
Another option a little closer to Sydney is a largish Rest Area, which is 36.4kms south of the M5 Toll Plaza. Marked by only a smallish sign so keep a sharp eye out for it.
As far as I could see there is nowhere closer to Sydney that is safe to turn off the highway and wait at but I'm open to suggestions.
I'm keen to pick somewhere south of the main congested areas because the M5 can get very busy on a Friday arvo and trying to maintain any kind of convoy will be just too hard.
Unless someone's got a better suggestion, my vote is for the Rest Area - there's plenty of parking room and we won't be bothering anyone if some of us are there for half an hour or more waiting for others to turn up.
As for timing, I'd suggest 3.30 for a 4.00pm sharp departure. That should get us to Wakefield by 6.00pm easy.
ZOOMBY 09-19-2005, 10:04 PM They sound like good suggestions, and I don't mind where we meet up :) . But I will throw in another idea which worked very well on the w'end "Homebush P6". Just a thought, but it catered for us nicely on the w'end  and we had room for a lot more cars too :D :D . And some of the guys said it would also be a good meet up point for the Nat's also :) .
Revolver 09-19-2005, 11:49 PM As posted in the dot au forum, the advantage of the Rest Area is that it is on the route to Goulburn and has plenty of space for parking. I also don't fancy driving across Sydney on a Friday arvo to get to Homebush.
Suggest that if people find Homebush convenient that can be used as a preliminary meet-up point before travelling to the Rest Area where the rest of us will be. I'd say you'd need to allow 30-45 mins to travel from Homebush to the Rest Area.
idolo 09-20-2005, 12:12 AM Agreed, i would prefer to meet up away from the centre of Sydney.
Revolver,
Apologies for not responding to you: I told Timbo I could not make it when the whole idea was first floated.
cheers, jack
Revolver 09-20-2005, 05:25 AM No sweat Jack. :)
Sorry you can't make it. :(
We'll all have a hot lap for you! ;) :D
