Pulled a front tire off and weighed it. Weighed 46+/-1 lb.

Also, confirmed that the wheels are stamped as 18" diameter , 8" wide-50 offset.

Tried to put a front Honda S2000 wheel on the front hub, but the 16" wheel would not clear the caliper. It was close, so some 16" wheels may fit.

why would you put on smaller rims than the stock ones? that is bad for the car and it looks bad

Thanks I was waiting for some one to post this.

Let's see 46 lbs total. According to Bridgestone the tires weighs in at ~27lbs, therefore the wheel is about 20lbs.

A SSR Competition (Type-C) weighs in at 15lbs. in 18x8, and that's the lightest I found. So, a overall saving of 20lbs at $1800.

I understand why it might not look as good, but I'm not quite sure I understand the reasons why it would actually be bad for the car?

I imagine he tried 16" to test for possible use of 16" winter steelie rims.

What was the torque you used to retighten the nuts? 80 ft-lbs?

I saw my car first time this morning. My wheels have small weights glued along the inside of the rims on 3 of them, near the outer edge. They have a small '5' stamped on them. Assume that means 5 grams. One wheel has 17, another 19, another 23 of these weights. One has none that I could find. Anyone else find similar? Is that unusual for wheels of this nature? I plan to keep the stock wheels ( for 20lb savings for $1800, I can just run more in the mornings and eat less fat).

Those wheel weights should be located directly opposite of the valve stem. They are there to balance out the weight of the Tire Pressure Sensor located behind the valve stem.

If he's keeping the same overall diameter, please explain how is that "bad for the car" :confused:

If 16 inch wheel fit, it would be optimal for winter tires. Fewer tire choices in 17 and 18 inch winter tires.

There is a huge difference between 20lbs of weight in the car, and 20lbs of unsprung weight hanging off the car.

I'm currently trying to figure out the smallest and lightest wheel combination I can wedge onto my car for Solo1/2 duty.

So if you are looking for a 17" rim, what offset would you go?

I have a spare set of stock 18's, but only the good race tires come in 17's, and definately NOT 18's!!!


What's the hub size on these things, too?

Hub size on the stockers.... 70mm

I just measured one of my spare stock 18's. They do taper in just a tiny bit, but the very edge that would be at the rotor, I measured with a business card, marked the edge, and put against a metal meter stick that I use.
