I know that many people would convince me not to get the automatic, but that's the car I preordered. Don't convince me to change my mind. I just don't like driving manual. I prefer to relax and listen to the music coming from the bose speakers. I know there are some people out there that have tried the automatic, so could you please give me a report on how the drive is, especially using the activematic shifter.
Thanks

Me too. My dad will probably won't let me get a standard. Only thing I am really worried about is the MPG and 0-60 times.

I don't get mine's until August. Atleast that's what the dealer said. By then I'll post up what I think about the automatic along with the shifter.

I have the 6 speed, but the way this engine pulls, I think the automatic will be great also. No lag with acceleration, just wants to keep pulling. I am in breakin so I have not gone beyond 5000 rpm. I do not think the auto will take anything away from this car.

Hi Stownz,
Here's some information about the automatic transmission:
The engine and transmission computers work together so that the engine momentarily reduces torque output when upshifting (smoother upshifts).
The transmission computer uses control algorithms to adapt to operating and driving requirements and features a "hill-sensing" logic control (to presumably delay upshifts when you are going uphill).
3rd and 4th gears have an electronically controlled torque-converter-clutch lockup for improved transmission efficiency and fuel economy compared to non-lockup automatics.

Thanks everyone for the info. So, the automatic is still a blast to drive huh. Cool, that's all I needed to hear. I'm not much into racing or anything, but as long as the automatic is fun to drive, I'm happy. I getting off of a toyota tacoma 95 version. The acceleration sucks. I was actually happy driving a camry when I borrowed my friend's car. If the acceleration is just as good as that, then I am stoked about my RX8 coming in.
