Can anyone believe the price on the accessory list for the 18"polished rims? Do you keep the original rims as well? I really like the look of the polished rims but there's no way I'm spending another $3,200 Cdn + taxes for that luxury. Does anyone know if the OEM rims are polishable? Any recommendations for a place near the GTA to get this done. My mechanic says he knows of a place in Burlington, ON that has a very good reputation.

Further, wouldn't it have made more sense to make the polished rims a factory option. That way you could pay the difference between the stock rims and polished rims instead of ending up with 2 sets of 18" rims. Make sense to anyone else?

Can't say I'd bother with the polished ... prefer the look of the stock rims.

You do have a point about the polished being a factory option instead, but I have to say, I'm not considering polished anyway.

In fact, the look I'm going with is the complete opposite. My RX-8 is going to be Bling-Bling-less.

No shiney accents are going to be added, and by about this time next year (I need time for the bank balance to recover) my 8 will have all the badges shaved off, and the silver stock rims will be replaced with a set of gunmetal or even anthracite rims.
Nice and dark. Looks agressive, and hides the brake dust.

Bling-Bling = bad IMO

But, I guess that's part of the fun isn't it? Everybody can do what they like.

Well, different strokes . . .

I got tired of cleaning the dust off the stock wheels, so I had them chromed. Much easier to care for, plus I like the look.

well, I went to a shop out here, and asked, and they quoted me at 120 a rim to have it sanded, polished and coated

That's cheaper than chrome. Polished wheels look good IMO.

First let me say your rims look great! If you want to get rid of your stock rims, just go onto any aftermarket autobody shop, they will buy them and sell them to people driving older Mazdas. OR do the reverse, get rid of your aftermarkets and get the same shop to polish the stocks and hopefully offset the cost by doing so.

When you do find a place that will polish your stocks, perhaps you could inquire a group rate/referal rate that will lower the costs.

I'll PM you two shops in Toronto to see if they can help by Fri if not next week.
