Ok you tech heads. Can someone tell me what is the actual operating temp for this car. In the old days it was around 180F. Is this still true or did they up the temp for emissions reasons etc? I am wondering if a 50-50 ratio of water to antifreeze will work. ANd the ecu/system be reset to run at 170-180 degrees. Dont know how to do that yet but I bet it can be done.

You are one old dragger! Operating temeratures generally run around 210 now in standard piston engines. I think that the change in temps came somewhere in the back half of the 70's. Ahh, the old days.

How did you measure that? I'm pretty sure the Renesis exhaust runs about 1600-1800 degrees. Piston engines tun 1000-1200.

He's asking about operating temp anyway.

well accorind to my guages....my oil is around 75 deg C. and my water temp is around 80-100 deg C.

hope that helps (it all depens on the conditions..outside temp...how hard i'm driving. but the thermostat opens at around 80-85 deg. C. (for water.

It probably was higher.. I was getting that # from memory of the last time i looked at my canscan.

So guy321, where do you have your EGT probe mounted? Got my gauge, got to get it mounted and heard to NOT put it in the exhaust manifold cause it would pin the gauge out but if I put it in pipe before cat then it is not a true indication of the inside engine temp. So where is yours :)

yep I guess i have shown my age. Oh well the secret is out and i can get that viagra.
So temp goes up to 212F huh? Well I wonder how high of a percentage of water we can run here in the south. Maybe 70%? Or is this thing controlled too much by the ecu? If we can get the operating temp down 10 degrees and the intake temp down a little then we will see a little performance gain.

Mine comes from CAN data.. I believe it's from the cat.
