OK...so I went to cut my hair (the FRO was out of control) and I saw this old lady using a walker and I see another lady like 7 feet in front of her. (I didn't know they were together but more on that later) I don't know where they are walking to but I then see the other lady open the door and hold it open so I walk in (say thank you, etc).

I then see that she was holding the door for the older lady and I felt like a big JERK, lol. I think I kinda skiped her meanwhile the grandma slowly walked in and sat down.

I put my name on the list and sit down also. I was in a hurry but did not realize until after I put my name down that she was holding the door for the older lady.

Am I evil? :(

Note: Even after I realized it I still went ahead and cut my hair first...am I evil? :(

You weren't evil, but you should have given her a cupcake.

Not in the traditional sense. But the cupcakes where you fart in your wand and waft it up to someones face.

That would have been 1 evil point.

Farting in your wand? Is that a Harry Potter thing?

rx8wannahave, the bad news is that the AARP has a hit squad.

The good news? You should be able to outrun them.

Rxwannahave:

Well, I'd say you're not evil, just unobservant. As I'm sure you've analyzed, the right thing to do would have been to immediately say - "hey, why don't you take her first" when your name was called. Damage solved, good deed done, and everyone is happy-happy-joy-joy.

Now, because Judaism doesn't have a savior to absolve us of our sins, and we have both full free will to choose the right path (and a duty to do so, by the way) AND the responsibility for our actions if we don't, it is a Jew's responsibility to right the wrongs you do. In practice, that means if you wrong someone, then you need to make it right with that person.

Now interestingly, in the interpretation of the Torah over the years, the sages and Rabbis have come up with the concept of "projected Mitzvot" (Mitzvot are good deeds - a Mitzvah is a good deed), as a way to help "make right" the wrong you did to someone that you either cannot readily find again, or who doesn't exist. Simply put, you cut someone off in traffic - and that person disappears before you can pull aside, give the "i'm sorry" look to them and let them go in front of you, then you should intentionally in inconvenience yourself to the benefit of others - i.e. let others go in front of you, in order to make good on the wrong you did.

So, since you won't be able to find the little old lady, next time you're there, let a couple of other people go in front of you - be sure to pick the one that looks like they are in a hurry. The good deed will be noticed, you'll feel better, and God will be happier with you as a result.

Or you could just look at it as the Karma train coming around in your favor, for some nice un-evil thing you did for someone else. Since evil lurks with intent, you can smile and go about your day and thank the karma friendly old ladies that helped you to get on with your day. :D

Yup…I was selfish and since I was in a hurry I did not say to the old ladies go right ahead. I justified myself by thinking:

Note: Now the AARP will get me for this one…

Lady hair takes FOREVER to wash, cut, and style while my hair cut takes about 10 minutes. I then had a flash back of Seinfeld when he took the marble rye from the old lady (he stole it from her) while calling her an old hag/bat/etc….and then ran off. LOL...I'm sorry LORD...

Well, you know I think you do have a savior it’s just that he was not accepted by many (not all) Jews. But, Christians practice restitution when possible also. If I wrong someone (damage property, cause them pain, etc) I first apologize and ask for forgiveness. Then…when applicable we are called to (per GOD’s word) to right the wrong we committed against another. It’s the love thy neighbor as you love yourself teaching. So in this area…it’s the same for Christians.

Can we ever right our wrongs…honestly? We commit so many wrongs that we are always stuck in “wrong” debt, it’s continual daily. But…here is where we differ greatly, to the Jew works can justify the person before GOD while JESUS taught that no matter how “good” we can be the wages of sin can not be paid for by good deeds. But…that would lead to a new topic…

So, since you won't be able to find the little old lady, next time you're there, let a couple of other people go in front of you - be sure to pick the one that looks like they are in a hurry. The good deed will be noticed, you'll feel better, and God will be happier with you as a result.

Well, JESUS died for my sins now and while I’m in this place so I’ll be forgiven if I repent honestly. BUT, I’ll still take your advice since doing good is always….well, a good thing to do.

I’ll have to take the “evil” test later just to see what I get…but I can’t now cause I’m at work.

Wow - I'm only 45% evil.

Now, here's the REAL test: http://www.puritytest.net This is the best version, which has been on the internet since the late 80's. I think it's been agreed upon as being about the most statistically 'correct' version (the 500 question, unisex, omnisexual, purity test). I think 700 and 1000 question versions exist, but they were statistically skewed, and not as accurate.

EDIT: I'm currently 48.6% pure, according to the test. Probably have plateaued at that point....
