Happy days on the web's best automotive board and community. It's really great reading about people picking up their cars, and how they are everything they had hoped they would be. I am living vicariously through the stories, and I think of myself sitting in the finance office, signing papers while my titanium RX-8 sits outside, waiting for me to take it home... another rotary Mazda in my driveway after a twelve year absence... though that scenario is not likely to happen until next spring. I'm going to test drive the RX-8 when it comes in, but I doubt it will make me want to trade in my Miata. I'll probably wait until next year, save to put half down, and buy it then.

I have to admit my excitement is also enhanced by the fact that I drove an S2000 yesterday and it did not interest me. Mazda makes wonderful sports cars, no doubt about it. Of all the cars I have owned since I was 16, the only ones I get misty-eyed about are my 1981 RX-7 and my current Miata.

So, new RX-8 owners, I salute you... I envy you... and hope to join you before too long!

The excitement is almost overwhelming. It is hard to sit in the showroom and fill our paperwork with your new car sitting only a few feet away -- on the other side of the window -- calling your name.

It has been a great experience, and also a frustrating one. Someone once said on this board that we would forget about the frustration and delays when the cars arrived and they were so right. The sheer joy in riding in this car made all of the wait worthwhile.

By the way, I noticed the Dachsie. I have 10 miniature Dachshunds, ranging from 9 months old to 17 years old. I only have 2 black and tans. They won't be experiencing the joy or excitement of riding in the RX-8!

Good luck in finding your dream RX-8 sometime down the road.

It is quite exciting to read all the stories, and I don't even have an 8 coming. Probably the earliest I could look to buy would be about a year from now, sometime in next summer.

But the 8 does make me excited. It seems very optimal for what I'm looking for, as long as I could get a base MT w/one or two options for under $30k. Of course the near future is turbulent with attaining my bachelors on the horizon, so it's hard to project any plans/budget/etc, but the idea of being in the seat of a 50/50 rwd nimble ride with a buttery-smooth rotary after currently 6 years of piston-poppin FWD action is quite attractive :)

And I responded 3 times... I need the G35 for business purposes. :)

I can't have just an RX-8 and a Miata. The G35 stays and the Miata will stay when I get my RX-8.

My miniature dachshund, Gabby, is five. So great to hear you have one that is 17! I am glad the breed lives so long (usually) as I will go nuts when I lose her. It's like having a child you outlive. She is in awesome shape though, and really athletic. I think she will be around a good while.

If you have Quicktime, you can see here at the following link. She's all play and affection... watch what she did when I introduced her to my niece...

Hi DonG35Miata,

Put about 150 miles on Blue tonight after work. It just keeps getting better.

What a great little movie! I wish I could figure out how to upload a couple of my digital pics of the new car, much less figure out how to add the movie.

BTW, not only is one of the Dachsies 17, we still have 2 of her babies, and they are both 15. Their father passed away (cancer) when he was 6. Broke my heart!

Let's hope and pray Gabby gets closer to the 17. Cancer at 6? So sorry! Anything you can recommend as a dachsie expert on what I can do to make sure Gabby has a long and happy life?

Finally, I write a weekly newspaper column to help people like you with home entertainment and consumer electronics. See it at www.multimediaanswers.com and send me an email- I will try and teach you to upload!
